Food Pyramid Coloring Pages

Educational Food Pyramid Coloring Pages

To help you in teaching your children about healthy eating and healthy foods, I have created several food pyramid coloring pages. You'll find a my plate sheet (the current thinking of portions we are to be eating of the different food types) and the individual foods here to print out and color. I have also included sections on where this food comes from to increase the children's learning experience.

All the pictures featured here are my own lineart pictures, some of which have been based on pictures from morguefile, wpclipart, and clker.

Food Pyramid Coloring Page

The original food pyramid showed the number of servings from each food group that you were supposed to eat - 6-11 serves of carbohydrates, 3-5 serves of vegetables, 2-4 serves of fruits, 2-3 serves of dairy products, 2-3 serves of protein (meat, dry beans, eggs, nuts) and limited fats and sweets. This original pyramid was revised in 2005 to a pyramid with different sized vertical wedges representing the different food groups.

In 2011 the nutrition guide was updated again - this time to MyPlate where you can see how much to eat by looking at at a picture of a plate and a glass.

On the right you can get two different coloring pages - one representing the original food pyramid, and one representing the newer myplate version.

Grains include all the cereal grains (wheat, oats, barley, rice etc) and the products made from them, such as bread, oatmeal, tortillas. For my grain coloring page, I have a picture of a partially sliced loaf of bread sitting on a bread board. This bread could be made from wheat, barley, rye, or any other mixture of grains. You decide!

Vegetable picture to color.

My picture of vegetables has some broccoli, some zucchinis (sometimes called courgettes), and a pepper (sometimes called a capsicum). You can get these vegetables in different colors: peppers in green, red, or yellow, broccoli in purple or green, and zucchini in dark green, light green, or yellow.

Vegetable Gardens

It's fun to grow your own vegetables. You could even grow your own broccoli, like the plant in my picture on the right. When you color this picture, the broccoli head could be green or purple, but the leaves will always be green or a blue-green - unless of course you want to use your artistic licence. Then you could make them rainbow colored!
