Introducing The Color Red

Welcome to a Rainbow Lesson Plan! Red is one of the primary colours and is a strong colour, representing passion and energy, making it a good theme for a lesson plan. The color red is popular with energetic children. If you "see red" it can make you react very strongly, or in the case of a bull, charge! It can instigate action. When bringing the color red to children, there are endless possibilities which can harness their passion and zeal for life. Whether it's ideas you need for Red Nose Day, Valentines Day or preschool lesson plans for your group of children, let this vibrant colour bring passion to your life and brace yourself for a session of much fun and activity! The activities can be adapted for all ages. Decorate your room or hall with red balloons, streamers, cushions and banners to set the atmosphere. Oh and don't forget to wear red, such as a red wig!

Songs About Red- If you are wearing red..

(to the tune "If you're happy and you know it.")

If you are wearing red, shake your head, If you are wearing red shake your head

If you are wearing red, then please now shake your head

If you are wearing red shake your head.

Circle Time And A Red Heart

What's in your heart?

Hold up a red heart that you have prepared for the arts & crafts activity below and ask the children if they know what the main job of the heart is in our bodies? If you have a picture of a heart in relation to the human body, let them see this too. Talk about the following ideas, allowing them to contribute by asking questions to keep them on track:

If the heart pumps our life-giving blood so that the whole of our body and brain can work, it's important that it's healthy!

If our heart is weak it won't do it's job properly.

Likewise, whatever gives us strength and energy is what will make us do or say certain things.

If we are angry, then that is what can cause us to act and react. What does it mean to see red? What is someone like when they see red?

If our hearts are loving, then we will act in loving ways towards others.

How can we keep them healthy?

You could make a list of all the things that we don't want in our hearts and an alternative list of what we do want.

Red Nose Day on 13th March Each Year

Tell the children the week before that if they want to bring a joke to share, then they will have to pay £1- (or set an amount) and the best one will win a prize. They should also bring a red nose with them. This can go towards Comic Relief (Red Nose Day charity in UK) or a charity of your choice. Take a few moments to talk about where the money will go. If possible, show some pictures to illustrate what you are saying. Get the children to wear red noses before they tell their jokes. The child who gets the biggest laugh could get a small prize. Each time a child puts on their red nose and tells their joke, their money is paid (you could put this into a red box). At the end, count up the money and remind the children where it will go.

Storytime And Games- The Bible Story of Crossing The Red Sea

Are they getting fidgety? Incorporate games into your storytime.

There are many reasons why this sea is called the Red Sea, but one of these is that it borders the Egyptian desert, which the Egyptians used to call the Red Land, due to the reddish colour of the sand.

Get the children participating in storytime with you. For example, when it gets to the place where the waters recede so that everyone can cross over, get them to run from one end of the room to the other as you hold out your arm (over the sea). Some of them could be Pharoah's army who chased them. See if they can catch any of them before they reach the other side! As you can see, this could evoke much fun.

This game "Red Stop Light Statues", could be played at the point in the story where they were all leaving Egypt with much celebration and taking with them lots of treasures from Egypt. The children dance around until you hold up a red stop light (cut out of card beforehand) when you want them to stop dancing. The last one to stop is out. Hold the red stop light high so that everyone can see it. When Moses told them to stop at night (red light), God provided them with a pillar of fire to lead them to where they should rest.

Check out this Bible Story here

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

— Exodus 14v21,22

Preparing Red Food For Snacktime

Have a wide selection of red food and a number of chopping boards and age-appropriate knives. Adult supervision is necessary for this activity. Explain to the children that red food is good for your heart. Ask them to identify the different fruit and vegetables.

Get the children to wash, peel and cut the fruit and then let them eat. Get enthusiastic with the children for good food that will help to keep their hearts healthy. Some will have an opportunity to try things that they haven't had before. A great experience that can often break the ice in their dislike of some food.

Craft Activity In Red Colour

Get the children to draw and paint red heart shapes on plain paper and cut them out. On a separate piece of plain paper they can write a caption, such as the one above, adding their own ideas. This can then be stuck onto their hearts, along with an assortment of sequins etc. to make it look attractive.

This is the first time I have heard of Red Nose Day!

What a lovely is attractively laid out. Maybe you should do a lens on how to code those modules. I am surprised that you didn't split the "lesson" about the heart in the human body away from the one about emotions, ie anger seeing red. This is such a "fun" lense with the incorporation of "red nose Day." Perhaps we need this holiday here in the U.S. :+) Thank you for sharing with us.

Looking over this page it is easy to see you are well read or is that well red.
