The Effects of Weather on Your Mood

The Weather Mood Ring

Moods come and go but every mood you experience has its own story—kind of like the weather. It too comes and goes, and it reflects on how you feel and how you're going to feel.

It might seem trivial to think about, but what kind of mood are you experiencing right now. Perhaps it's a bit rainy or partly cloudy; the amount of weather terms out there are complex and ever changing just like your emotions.

Anyway, which weather term are you feeling right now?

Thunder & Lightning

What it means...

You're experiencing a very violent mood right now with searing anger in your heart & soul. You feel hatred towards someone or something and want to release all of that rage.

The heart is cold and dark just like the stormy skies outside. There is no peace in you, no hope inside, and everything screams bitterness and fire.

However like a storm, this feeling shall pass and your mood will shift to something far less horrifying and unpleasant.

Sunny Skies

What it means...

There's euphoria on your mind and a kindness in your heart. Your inner soul feels free and full of joy. There is no such thing as distaste or hatred because no one could get you down. You are on top of the world, filled with positive thoughts and aspirations.

The love is strong as it burns through you like a transparent sun. The only negative is that the skies will not always be clear and bright because eventually the sun will set and the moon will rise.

But have no fear, the sun will return again and so will your happiness.

Dark & Cloudy

What it means...

The clouds are overspreading the horizon and a sudden case of confusion sets in. You don't know what you're doing, where you're going, or what your next step will be. The clouds also create a sense of darkness, which causes your mood to switch from positive to negative.

Whatever sense of serenity you had before has slowly evolved into an unclear vision. Everything in life doesn't feel real anymore, but it's not the end of the world. It may feel confusing to you now, but there's faith that it'll clear up soon.

Cold & Windy

What it means...

There's a sudden chill in the air and everything feels cold to the touch. Winter's poison has unleashed inside your brain and it feels disconcerting. You become cold to everyone around you that asks for help.

Those truly in need get ignored and everything stems from how you feel on the inside. There's a sense of self-worth but also an uncaring emotion that puts everybody off. The wind acts like a mighty windmill blowing everyone and everything away from your life.

It's a deadly combination of annoyance and avoidance, and at that moment the only thing you wish for is to be alone under old man winter's grasp.

What it means...

The most violent weather phenomena has attacked your insides. This is worse than the anger and bitterness from a storm, it's the most devastating emotion anyone could have. There's a scary rage within you that brings fear to other's eyes.

They need to stay away because your gaze threatens them and gives them nightmares. You need to relinquish this mood immediately otherwise brutal consequences will emerge. The violence is real and the destruction is coming on like a twister.

It's no Wizard of Oz, this is reality and reality causes murder. You must shift your mood before the harm engorges the harmless.

What it means...

It's similar to the feelings of a tornado but it lasts much longer. This mood may last all day and night, but it may even be around for tomorrow. Your family and friends are scared, and they can't get too close.

Every time they do, the mighty winds of the hurricane blow them away and pour rain on them. They are under a mighty cloudy with monsoonal rains flooding them until there's nothing left. They won't return as you've alienated them for a prolonged period of time.

Your spouse, your children, and your friends have all left you because they know you need help. The hurricane must be weakened otherwise only pain from its aftermath will remain.

Hazy, Hot, and Humid

What it means...

It's an odd sort of calmness that's been bestowed upon you. You feel mellow and relaxed, but there's something not quite right. It's a mixture of laziness, tiredness, and sleepiness all wrapped into one.

You feel the sun's blazing heat ravage your body and it entices boredom. There's not much to do but wait out these feelings and hope you'll receive an energy boost soon. Until then, all work is halted and every project falls by the wayside.

Don't let the heat get to you though, you'll need to cool off a bit before someone notices. Laziness is unbecoming, but it's hard to not fall in.

It's Hailing

What it means...

The physical pain comes and goes but when it hits, you feel it hard. It becomes impossible to relax when the sharp pangs emerge. There's plenty of medicine to take, but none of it seems to work.

A massage might do the trick, but it ends up failing. When the back and stomach begin acting up, that's the cue to go see a doctor. Hail keeps pouncing no matter what the person is doing and each hit feels stronger than the next.

The physical pain transforms into a psychological nuisance and all calming techniques fail to stop it. In most cases it'll subside eventually, but sometimes it lingers for a while longer.

Snow & Ice

What it means...

The feelings of being aloof are there, but happy memories exist as well. The emotional connection through nostalgia grows stronger as historic memories flood in. Snow represented childhood because it was aesthetically pleasing and gave you that comforting feeling.

During the holidays, snow and ice were a part of life and so were all those pleasant memories. You feel like reminiscing but not everything is dandy. Snow & ice cause their share of problems, and not all memories are happy ones.

The individual enjoys the good times but realizes that a few bad times came with it. They'll try to swat away the bad and only live by the good, which may prove to be a challenging struggle.

Partly Cloudy

What it means...

It's a hit or miss kind of mood where everything seems okay but there is something bothering you. You can't quite figure it out and it's not all peachy right now. Partly cloudy includes some sunshine but a few showers are possible.

Like your mood, it might seem bright but anything can pop up at a moment's notice that'll turn your happy mood into something far less desirable. The rain won't be a heavy hitter so you'll easily recover.

The rain may not even come at all making your mood feel more like sunshine than impending doom.

What it means...

When all of the bad stuff comes rushing down on you, it becomes impossible to stop. A rainstorm and flood means once something bad begins, it doesn't end. The rain lasts quite a long time, if not for days, as does your situation. It's not so much of a current mood because it tends to linger a while as raindrops fall on your head.

It's also a flood of emotion as tears, anger, and confusion all emerge and twist your mood around. You feel a combination of every awful emotion and wish it would just stop. Unfortunately, the flood continues onward until it takes away the things you've enjoyed the most.

What it means...

The day starts off sunny but then the clouds roll in. The mood goes from joyful to cautious as expectations become unnerving. Suddenly rain starts coming down but the clouds are breaking up. There are mixed emotional signals this time as they are jolting from one emotion to the next.

Soon the clouds dissipate further but a few drops continue to fall as peeks of sun reflect off of them. The bright, shiny colors grow from pale to illuminating, and oscillating mood swings shift back to happy and faithful.

There's a sense of pride, joy, and strong positive energy that seemingly came out of nowhere, and it lights up everyone it touches. The moodiness is nowhere to be seen and there is only beauty in your heart.

Scientifically there are causal links but it's moreso related to daylight hours then the weather. However I can understand where your friend is coming from, bad weather can make other things worse, so while it's not a direct mood link, it can certainly be a factor.

Thank you for your insightful comment.

Nice post there we have good arguments but actually it does not influence for me and I don't believe in it. However, my best friend always tells me that he has awful mood 'cause the weather is terrible.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Lol well if tornado fits then who am I to judge. At least it's temporary right as will be your stomach bug.

Summer LaSalle from USA on May 10, 2015:

What a fun hub! I have such a bad stomach flu so I voted 'Tornado'- probably too much information on my part- LOL Tornado just really fits right now! :)

Krzysztof Willman (author) from Parlin, New Jersey on May 04, 2015:

Haha same here. As long as it's not hurting anyone then I say bring it on. Thanks for the read and follow, I'll be sure to check out your hubs as well.

Very interesting and fun hub! I'm a weather geek so this makes perfect sense to me! Ironically, if we had a big storm my weather mood would be sunny!
