What a Child Needs to Grow

Chinyere's love for young children is unimaginable, she is always finding ways to nurture a child to a responsible man.

Child growth is a fundamental stage of every individual. There are distinct modes by which you can nurture a child. Each phase should contribute to the psychological development of a child.

Let me share my experiences with you here. When I was taking care of children as a teacher, it seemed as a good moment to study children behavior. Having taught for a good number of years, I came to the conclusion that whatever you are start from the spring time of your life. An amount of individual characteristic has a reflection of his childhood training.

I was lucky to have taught schoolers between ages 3-16,each phase has its own formula for adaptation to enable the child to fit into the world and society he finds himself. At times, some teachers who are not getting it easy with teaching pictured toddlers class as a no -go area as far as teaching is concern.

However, I do not fault them because teaching or handling children should be a thing of choice and passion. You don't have to compel someone to teach a particular class if his choice goes against it.

The question you should ask yourself regularly is, “how do I help to make teaching preschoolers easy and enjoyable? Your ability to get the suitable answer here, will actually pave a way to someone else's better future. Parent should equally think of what a child needs and a way out to give his child sound growth remedies.

Let's get on, to set the ball rolling. Likely, when you want to catch a rat, what pranks do you play? It's as simple as that to get on with children of all ages. Here are the possible ways out!

Aesthetic;

Children appreciate beauty. You have to make the child's study environment attractive and cool. Put in place colorful pictures. Children between ages 2-5 find color charming and enticing to touch. Give them color pencil, tell them to make pictures of themselves and their family members. In this way, the child will develop his reasoning ability, while trying to make perfect pictures of his mum and others.

Guide them to identify the various colors. Let them identify the colors of their clothes, bags, lunch bags and any object within the surrounding. You can use beauty to impact ethical behaviors in them. Through making colorful pictures of people exhibiting values. The beauty in the pictures will linger in their memory, and help them to recollect what you have said at any time.

Use attractive pictures to tell stories that teach morals. It goes a long way to make a child retain the virtue of the story. I did it, it works perfectly like magic. Some children I taught at age 5 still recount the stories I had told them.

Finger Activities;

There should be free time for children at school and at home. During this time, the child can work on his own with useful objects you have provided for him. Anything which can help develop a skill ability, to help the child be skillful in the future, is very necessary.

A child who is able to work with his finger won’t find writing difficult. Child at age 3+ sometimes find writing hard. To such a bad handwriting child, give him materials to keep his fingers busy at free time.

Things you may use to keep a child busy are;

  • plastic clay, for molding
  • thread for weaving
  • old clothes, to rebrand toy clothes
  • beads for coral bead making
  • cartons, for construction of building and cars
  • poster colors, crayons, and brushes
  • palette for color mixing
  • plywood, hardboard
  • scissors, hammer, hooks and pins, nails for fixing objects

Extrinsic Motivation;

Here you have to make the child develop interest in things of value, anything that will make him aspire to achieve success. You want to help the child grow, therefore you have to adopt motivation as a vital tool to achieve your mission. Children admire gifts and recognition. Make them feel loved at their birthdays.

Cheer them up with a happy birthday song, wishes and a little gift as well, promise more goodies should they meet up with your stated objectives. Motivation inspires a child to learn or act positively.

Inculcation of Values;

A child should learn certain values which help to govern behaviors in the community. He should know more of values and morals shared with the international community. Consequently, you should use moral education to make it easier.

The regularity of moral lessons in the school life of a child can increase the effectiveness of your contribution to their character development. Through moral education lessons, the children will get to accept moral requirements of the society in which they live.

Make a child to see reasons to avoid crimes and violence. This will go a long way to eradicate moral decadence. Here are values shared within and far;

personal integrity,

self-discipline,

patriotism,

respect for law and order,

respect for elders,

respect for people in the authority,

goodwill,

kindness

hard work

competence.

Vices abhorred by the society;

Let the child understand what vices have caused in the society. Most of the problem we have today are due to vices. Some families are initiators to these vices. Most of the habits a child engages in is from parents or conducts at home.

When parents lie in the presence of their kid, the kid will naturally follow their footsteps and may even graduate to become a liar.

However, enumerate some vices which he is likely to fall victim to if he moves with the wrong person or friend. There are cases of children of highly placed and respectable homes who turn rogues, some children stay late with friends going from one hub house to another.

Guide the child to understand the dangers of these vices;

  • Murder
  • robbery
  • corruption
  • dishonesty
  • indulgence

In as much as it may be an uphill taste to completely wipe out immoral behaviors in our society, you should think of a way to reduce them to the barest minimum.

Emotional Care

Always have it in mind that a child deserved to be loved and care for. Let your child be the apple of your eyes. Wish him good, make him feel important in your life. You ought to desist from use abusive words when reprimanding your child for wrong doing. Let him see reasons for not to go against your rule.

Look at why a toddler may be acting inappropriately before you discipline her, is she hungry? Tired? Overstimulated? Frustrated with toy? Be firm when an out-of-bounds child gives you an impish grin. Don't let cute behavior change boundaries or how you enforce them.

Realize that children have limited memories. That's why it's important to repeat boundaries often several times a day, for many weeks. Give a child alternatives to inappropriate behavior. Share some ideas about how to act.

Help preschoolers use words instead of actions to express their wants, needs, and feelings. Give them ideas about how to act appropriately. Try to keep calm when setting and enforcing boundaries. Even with a child who seem to have trouble doing what you ask.

Do not resort to spanking. Children who are spanked are likely to use force to control other people when they are older, you should use other non-violence forms of discipline.
