University of Phoenix Class Action Lawsuit 2019 - 2020
The University of Phoenix is facing a class action lawsuit that will shut the school down for good by court order!
The lawsuit was filed out of Arkansas by three former students who withdrew from the university. The students claimed that the University of Phoenix saught tuition payments directly from the students after they withdrew instead of deducting the payments directly from the students' loans. The students withdrew because the quality of education they received from the University of Phoenix was extremely poor, the instructors would not help them, and some instructors went missing for a few days in the online classrooms.
What the University of Phoenix is doing is illegal! You cannot send student loan money in the form of a loan directly back to the lender and go after the borrower for collection. The University of Phoenix broke the lender/borrower contract without the student even knowing.
The University of Phoenix is being sued for:
2) Breach of Contract
3) Interference With Contractual Relations
4) Breach of the Implied Convenant of Good Faith and Fair Dealing
5) Unjust Enrichment
I like #5, Unjust Enrichment, which is, becoming filthy rich at the expense of others!
This lawsuit is the dagger to the heart and the University of Phoenix will no longer be in operation! Many more, if not, all online colleges and universities, will no longer be in operation as well once this behemoth goes down.

They supposedly "sent the back to the lender" and have collecting money from me (criminal). Every time I check my balance, new costs are added. When I ask when funds were sent back (dates and amounts), I get no response. The billing department is a joke and so is their billing page. The billing dept can't even tell me where the extra costs are coming from and are directing me to Technical Support. What does IT have to with finance? Does anybody know where I can join the class action lawsuit against the University of Phoenix? They are crooks and I am so tired of them!!

I too am a victim of this matter. Until my son told me about the recent class action suit against UOP I was completely clueless and thought I was the ONLY one going thru this.
"Completed" my studies in 2007
Never received diploma?
45K in debt
Multiple loans to pay back
School loans listed on my credit
They never helped me find a job
Curriculum was sketchy?
Been paying on these loans for 10+ years now and I STILL owe $45K
This is MADNESS, unfair, scam, heartbreaking and flat out WRONG!
I cant even help my children with their college expenses now.
Where can I get some help ???????
Rosalind on January 16, 2020:
I graduated in 2009 with 55k in student loans. While i attended uop they changed finance companies which got into a second financial loan. I asked if i would have two payments when i graduate and i was told no that they would consolidate the loans. Well once i graduated i received bills totaling over 600.00 in payments. Let talk about the classes, all finals in all courses were open book, most of the instructors were from boeing. I could figure out how they determine if i was learning anything if every test was open book. paid 1500.00 for the computer marketing course and all the instructor taught was the history of computer, nothing about marketing. I had one student on my study team who plagiarizing her papers said she did it all fours years i reported her to instructor cuz i refused to include her work and they said i was trouble and couldn't get along, this was my last class, she graduated when i did. $55k for 4 years is rediculous when it was cheater to go to a university

What is the process to determine if you're eligible for this class action law suite against UOP?
I enrolled during the time frame mentioned in the article but I haven't received anything from the school or creditors.
I'm over 100K in student loan debt.
If anyone have the answers please tell me.
Chris on January 08, 2020:
Anyone who owes money (or "owed") directly to UoP should have been notified by UoP within 15 days of the class action lawsuit ruling. At that point they have 45 days to contact creditor agencies to have amounts wiped from credit reports and provide refunds. If you took out a private or federal loan, you need to visit www.borrowerdischarge.ed.gov to apply for borrower defense repayment program which can help erase some, or all, of the debt incurred. if any payments were made on those loans, possible refunds could apply. just an FYI - look into it for yourselves, i just summarized it for you.

I am also a University of Phoenix sucker. My wife and I owe 75k a piece and they never helped me find a job and I applied to 12 colleges and Universities in Texas and none of my credits would transfer over. They said I would have to start my pre-requisites all over.

How do I sign up to be included in the law suit. I walked down the isle and graduated at one of their Georgia locations. I was told after graduation that I had no completed all of my requirements, therefore they never provided my degree. And, they have me owing 50000 dollars for what? A copy of the degree? This is crazy! I'd like to be included in the lawsuit someohow.

It is costing me $20k for nothing. I graduated other Masters levels classes Cum Laude. When I got into one of the classes on Phoenix, I couldn't get a B. It was nuts. I got no help from the school, couldn't get a different instructor. It was a trap.

Who will be included on these law suites, I’ve been complaining for years about this school. I was student I received a loan from a vendor outside of the school, it was transferred to the school and I was forced to pay the school back, not them.

I worked for UoP for a short time and started school there. It's one of if not the biggest regrets of my life. As an employee (enrollment counselor) I felt as if they were bamboozling people there. It was like a sleazy car salesman type of situation. I couldn't do that and that's why I didn't get incentives and others did. I eventually graduated after taking a break after my son was born and then a few classes later I switched to online. I'm buried in school debt and interest is growing and growing. It's done nothing for my career and it's done nothing but bring me grief and depression. I need a resolution.

this is round two that I have had to get a hold of the New Mexico attorney general in my state because of them returning funds again. I should have never trusted Sean Ortega or anybody at University of Phoenix. They originally signed me up and had me getting a military Grant or something like that and I've never been in the military they've done a lot of things shady they returned money back to me after I paid for my classes and ebooks they return the same amount that I paid and then I had to repay it again and then they tell me it's an overpayment and it's just a payment that I'm sending back to them because they wanted me to pay two weeks early...I did everything I was supposed to according to leave of absences and disability services was working with me because I had a couple surgeries I had to have done this year in 2019... The University of Phoenix disregarded anything that I said to them and didn't realize they broke the borrower and lender rules... University of Phoenix had their hands in my pocket and they shouldn't have because I paid all my own with my Visa card with my bank. do not attend the school they will be shut down their very shady and they don't even contact you back right away if you leave a message you'll receive a phone call back from them two or three months later how is that professional let alone accredited they knew I wanted to transfer to University of New Mexico and now they returned funds back to my lender again holding my 30 credits hostage which some of those credits are not transferable however they State their accredited I don't think so... Do not waste your time and money going to the school I'm seeking legal counsel again second Time around should never trust it down the first time let alone the second time...

I transferred all of my credits earned from them to Walden then they really came after me. I hate to think my 4-year degree means nothing which cost 62,000. It's always some company trying to get away with breaking the rules so they can line their pockets. I did extensive research on this college and now, it was all garage. It infuriates me to no end. I graduated in 2011 with owning the amount of 62,000. its been 8 years and there is still 54,000 left to pay. Where do I sign up for the class action lawsuit?
Sarah Bowman on April 26, 2019:
UOPHX promised to help with job searches, told me that my degrees would help in job advancements, my degrees would help in my money, would help me in becoming a supersivor…. They also told me that if I helped them recruit they would give me a bonus and they would get one as well. The more they got to sign up to go to school the more bonus they said I would I could receive. This school was nothing but a fraudulent and lying school to all of its students. I still owe $69.000 for my education and do not make enough money to make full loan payments only work and pay what I can afford which is just very little. I am 6 will never be able to pay off. What do we do to file a fraudulent claim, but they will make all of us lierers, Betsy DeVos will see of that. She and her family are investers in Private Supported One-Line Colleges. I look forward to the day this school is shut down. I was a dissertation away from a doctoral degree when I could not afford my renewal [scam] residency. When applying for jobs I discovered no government websites specified my degree. This means a Masters of Security Criminal Justice Administration degree is not a recognized masters degree. The only recognized masters degree is Criminology. However, your MBA is practical for a job at McDonalds or the Olive Garden. Remember the school magazine encouraging students to own franchises? The only validation a degree has is if your already in the field or your employer allows you to use a degree for a promotion. I am sorry for the run on sentence The degrees offered are relevant to your experience. One student desired to become a police officer. The intelligent student dropped out of the school to attend an academy. Coincidently, after the instructor pointed out to the class you do not need a college degree to become a police officer. The students who graduate and are not accepted by a police academy will not become police officers. The worst part is the counseling offered. Most schools inform you on how to make the most of the classes you take and what jobs are available for the degree you have. This school can't even tell you who your next instructor is or how to use one elective class to cover a requirement for multiple college degrees. Two of the four residencies are valuable the other two are a waste of time and money. However, I ignored the warnings of others. Please if you don't want to waste 125K do not attend this school.

I am overjoyed that these scam institutions are being unveiled. It's ashamed they prey on low income almost illiterates to get the loan documents signed and get your money and ruin you. Even veterans caught in the scam can't go because they owe them money. Their va benefits for education are in limbo because these snakes of perversion knew how to rope them in and tied them up. So many complaints have been filed the federal government should be sued. It's like a welfare system that takes everything and gives you nothing to hope for. Nurse student graduated with $70000 of debt and never set foot inside a hospital for training. They sued. It's still around. Pell grants and financial aid is a thing of the past. Loads of people have worked there and left and started their own pay for profits because the money is insane. Community college is your best alternative unless the government gives you a reprived and shut them down making them illegal.

I would also like more information. I am hoping to continue my education through my local area college but am unable to do so because of my history with UoP. They have told me they returned money that I now owe to them. I have my records from student loans and no money was returned according to their records. I simply want my records released. I was told I will most likely have to retake all classes but have to have my official transcripts. I withdrew in March of 2010 from UoP.

I am currently enrolled and looking to withdraw- I have FASFA money that has been awarded since April and I still can not accept it. It will become available and then goes back in for quality review. I have been told that I can not accept funds unless I am currently enrolled in a class. I took a leave of absence for to avoid other cost of classes when the moneys still were not released. I am now into my 3rd class, over 3 grand into debt with still no way to accept my awarded funds. I hear one lie after another as to when and why I still have not been able to accept my funds. I am in my Junior year of my Bachelors and am going to throw in the towel. I can not deal with all the stress of working full time, class full time and no money to pay for it. I have never felt so abused in my entire life by anyone. I had to fight with them prior to my awards as well because someone told me I had filed my 2015 taxes wrong and needed a CPA to review and right a letter for approval. I told them that they were not the IRS and my taxes were completed correctly. That was a fight for a month to get straightened out. I should have ran then, but wanted to finish my degree. I need help in figuring out how to get away from this nightmare and all the money and time I have invested for nothing but stress and heartbreak. I will be filling a complaint with the Dept of Education as to how this school can get away with all this crap and no one seems to be watching people whom try to better themselves. The staff at the UOP would say anything to cover themselves. I am just another way to get more money at whatever the cost may be.

I took online courses in 2012 and 2013. I was having trouble getting information from the professors, emailed and called them, also called my adviser and never got a call. Weeks went by and nothing. Finally I decided to withdraw from school, 2 weeks later i get an email saying that they will close my account. It took me leaving to get someone to do their job. They sent me to collections for$700. Ruined my credit and refuse to send my official transcripts to the new school I will be attending. I called them again today and they said sorry, you owe money. I proceeded to ask what about the money you took for the classes I did take and pass? Was told they were sorry. They are ridiculous. I am filing a complaint with Dept Of Education.
Kim Correa on April 23, 2018:
I am currently re-enrolling in the UOP online program. I initially enrolled in 8/2009 for BSIT-Information System Security program. I had to drop out in 2014 due to my layoff of government job, youngest daughter trying to commit sucide and me losing my house. We were homeless for a while staying in several places. Now that it is 2018 and I am a little bit settled but still unemployed I figured it was time to try and go back to school. I had to get permission cause I was told I was over the date to come back into the version I initially in V6. I had to submit paperwork and talk to a councilor to help with the process of getting back into school. right now the class is in v8 and 9 and I would get approval for v8. This is where thing get really tricky; before leaving school for emergency reasons I almost completed my bachelors degree program with only 10!!!!! classes left to get my degree. I was told that with v8 I would have to finish my math class with an additional math class that was needed (CAPSON CLASS CMGT/445) WHICH WOULD PROVIDE THE CREDITS NEEDED. I was alright with that. Now I already EARNED 90 CREDITS PRIOR TO LEAVING SCHOOL. I was told by my councilor that they would do thier best to get my credits transferred over to v8 so that I can start on 5/1/18. Well it is 4/23/18 and only 78 credits have been transferred over. I talked to another councilor to be told that until I meet 45 credits that my other credits would not be transferred over. I am confused!!!! How do the UOP take credits from me that I have already earned which is 90 and try to just give me 78. I worked hard to get the credits I earned for them to take some of my credits because they transferred me over to v8 and that is policy and that is how it goes. I want to file an class action suite because I want my credits I earned UOP did not give me anything I earned every credit via sweat, tears. I hope that a lawyer or someone out there that has experienced the same thing I am going through to comment on this post and lets get together and find a way to get what is earned to us. I am a veteran and if they can try and do this to me they will try and do it to anybody. Shame on you Phoenix
this is the email the councilor sent to me when I tried to find out why my credits will not transfer :
Nicole (who is my academic councilor) just reached out to me. It is my hope you can come to a place where you can trust we have your best interest in mind. We only have so much control on policy and procedure, but we are familiar with it. I understand you want what you want and you want it to happen now. It does not work that way, as I have explained before. The university has required you to update, the newer versions reflect industry standards. You were past your deadlines. You are required to update. I understand your situation and feel for you, but I also believe more updated classes will serve you better in the long run.
If you don’t want to start. I understand. I will delete your schedule, but no matter who you speak to, we are not going to be able to apply all your electives until you have met your Upper Division requirement. This is the policy. I understand how this uncertainty might make you feel and I am sorry. We can only work diligently to get as much applied and get you as close to a minimal number of credits as we can within policy.
Please take a moment to reflect upon your goals and your willingness to trust this process and let me know if you plan on resuming class on 5/1.
How can they not reflect credits that I have already completed????????? I have copies of all of my paperwork.
I have completed 90 they only want to transfer over 78 this is not going to happen cause I will fight this to the end. I need help??????? I am located in Northern VA

This is exactly what they are doing to me right now!Back in 2009 I enrolled in the University of Phoenix online learning university. At the time I thought it was a good school. I was wrong. I obtained an associates and bachelor’s degree and last year in 2017 I enrolled in the master’s Program. Recently I have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and have been placed on 100% disability and cannot work. . I informed the academic and financial aide support people of my situation. I was told by my physicians due to my illness that I needed to focus all my attention; on getting well. Because of my illness I could not give them a time when I could come back to school to complete the program. The University of Phoenix has now billed me $7,210 dollars because they money back that was provided through financial aid. Now they are threatening me with immediate payment for the three remaining classes that I have not been able to complete due to my illness. No one at the University told me that I was doing anything wrong but now they are trying to say that I did not notify them of my situation when I have every email that I sent to the academic counselors and the financial counselors. They are going to post this on my credit report and I feel that this is very unfair and wrong when all the while I tried my best to keep them informed of my health issues. I would suggest that before anyone enroll in this University to do research on their unfair and unethical ways of obtaining money from unknowledgeable students. I am going to contact a consumer attorney to fight this because they have done this to many other students in the past and I will not lay down and let them destroy my reputation because they are more interested in money than really trying to help students. I am 60 years old, and I have been diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. I have several other illnesses, After all the money they have already gotten out of me, you would think they would be willing to work with me. I tried to explain to them my situation and got no solution. It is about money; money and more money. They do not care who they hurt. I never thought a company would do something like this. Therefore, this is the reason why they have a BBB F rating.

I'll explain what happened but need to be put into this class action lawsuit ASPA. Went to U of P from 4/2014 to 7 or 8/2017. I loved the school until I saw that a whole year to year 1/2 went by when I only received $400 altogether as my disbursement. I thought It strange and my granddaughter Brittany looked into University of Phoenix and found out They have been defrauding students all the time I've been in this school. I went nuts, and found out, though I'm senior undergrad student, if I do decide to do this class action lawsuit, I will lose all the credit's I've earned at That school (49) in 3 1/2 yrs and I came into the school with 41 from other schools I'd attended through the years. I have 7 1/2 years of college already. But on the upside my loans from U of P will be dismissed, wiped out. I sat on this for the past 2 months, undecided, but I still left U of P and now they won't give me my transcripts so I can move on to another school to finish my program and I'm only 30 credits away from graduating. U of P say I OWE them $6700. WHAT? I said. They owe me money not the other way around. So please, I'm 61 I can't start all over again but if I have to then yes put me into this lawsuit immediately. I don't know how long I have to live I know I'm disabled and would like to get my degree, but If I have to start from 37 credits which are definitely going over to the school I want, I'll have to do 83, another words, the 49 credits from U of P will be gone, but I guess if I had to redo those credits at a different school then fine. As long as I can get those funds back into the government so I can Go back to school, then I'll do that. God Bless and thank you, please get me on this lawsuit.

I need to know the ph# or email of the class action lawsuit for University of Phoenix, as I went there 3 1/2 yrs, 2014 to 2017
very important I reach someone, I need and want to be apart of it after all even if I do lose all my credits while I went there.

I would also like to be added to this lawsuit. This degree is not worth the paper it is printed on. Have tons of debt and still no closer to a job like promised.

I am so flustered with this degree and school lied to by advisors can’t get a job to even pay the loans. Terrible save your money and don’t attend will ruin your life.
Ms. Rivera on October 12, 2017:
I attended from 10/2008 to 5/2010 Became ill was trying to withdraw from class before deadline no one returned correspondence, ended up with failing an put on financial aid probation . Said I owed balance that was actually paid through financial aid turned over to collections and held transcripts hostage. Still receiving collection notice.I would like to be added if possible.

I was one unit short of earning my degree. I have contacted them NUMEROUS times trying to resolve the mattter so I can earn my degree. No one ever gets back to me. I'm over 40K in debt with them. I want to be added to this law suit if possible.
Ms. White on September 21, 2017:
I went to this fraud school on and off since 2011, but I decided to buckle down and get my degree in Health and Human Services out of the way, so I re-enrolled in the program and went religiously for 2 years straight with only less than one year left to complete my degree program. Unfortunately I lost my father, and due to this I had to put a hold on schooling once again. I finally came out of my depression after being away for 13 months, and I went back to University of Phoenix to re-enroll, I was "excited" to complete my program, especially since I only had 1 year or less to complete in order to receive my degree, so I contacted the counselor to start the enrollment process, this is when the counselor told me, due to changes in the program, I had to do 3 full years on top of the years I already completed to be finished with my degree. WHAT!! I told her, this is impossible, what happened to the 3 years I already put into the school, the 2 years prior to me leaving, and the 18 months I put in before that, she had no answers, in fact, she became rude and stern with the amount of time I need to complete to finish up my degree. I complained to higher up, and all of a sudden, they started lying on me by say things I was not aware of, I received a letter stating, I was on probation for plagiarism and all kinds of non sense. I was an A and B student when I attended this school, I have never been accused of such a thing, and to try and put dirt on my name because they are trying to hustle more money out of me and I refused to give them another dime. This school has already hustled me once, I will not let them do this to me again. I should have my Master's Degree for all the time and money I have given to this school and to not have nothing in return, not even a certificate! Please fill me in on any class action lawsuits going on currently "2017" firstname.lastname@example.org
P.S. I am running into major issues with trying to get credits matriculated from this school, bottom line, no one is accepting these credits from this made up school, it's depressing and I'm scared I'm going to have to start all over from scratch.

I am currently enrolled at this "School" and am finding that I am being grouped with other students that have not learned or should have passed a previous English course; we are in our "core" program... My class costs have risen @700 per class now that I am a 3rd year student.. Now I am really regretting not finding a better institution to get me degree from..
Sisilia T on August 26, 2017:
To keep this simple and concise, I started with UOP with the intention that with the grant I receive from financial aid my educational expenses would be covered. However, the program I was enrolled in did not qualify for the Title IV funds that I am eligible for and they took money from my grant. To top that off, I withdrew from the school and did not attend it for more than 60% of my time in enrollment. I have payment history that there is an excess refund from the school, but I don't have information as to where the refund went. I am getting impacted with my credit by this as I am 120+ day late payment with this student loan. I am not paying for a loan that I never received directly. The school and the lender had taken advantage of what I am eligible for through financial aid and I'm being punished. I want all parties that are involved with how this is processed accountable.
TODD JOLLEY on August 25, 2017:
I did finish my accounting degree at U.O.P., it was not sufficient education for a career change. I can barely make enough money to live. Because of the lack of exposure to the right materials it would take getting another degree to be able to function properly in the career. Not happy.
Kandice Bean on August 02, 2017:
I started online courses with them when I had 3 little ones running around. I was told that a portion of my loans would be contributed to helping me pay for bills, pay for internet, and help with any bills necessary for me to be able to meet the requirements. I never seen any money to help with any such bills or necessities. I stopped doing the courses after 3 months. I have received 2 different bills stating I owe different amounts. one at 8k and one at 11k! The charged me the full amount of the courses even after dropping them. Add me if possible!
Michelle Jones on July 21, 2017:
I attended Uof P and didn't even get to finish when they told me my funding was all used up. Being an older adult I had no clue as to a college being "for profit" and then to have less then half of the credits transfer. I got a phone call from someone explaining the class action suit in which they told me that if I pay them $750 they will help me. Would be great if I had finished my degree and had that much money just laying around. So those of us who were misled need to pay yet again to right the wrong? Where is that even remotely fair? Make someone else rich following the actions of the college?

I am attempting to sue University of Phoenix, I owe 35k and don even have any degree, the school said they were accredited and they weren't and you cannot use any of their degrees at all. I shouldn't have to pay 35k and have my credit ruined over lies and fraud. Everything they told me was false I took classes more than once that iw as told I wouldn't have to pay for but I was charged and billed. less than 60 credits and owe 35k I could have went to a tier one school for 4 years for 35k
Romaine Head on July 07, 2017:
How do I get added to the lawsuit, finished all but one class for my Bachelors and they said I needed to pay them for this one class, when I'm sure they already had or spent my loan money. Kept all papers that required me to take days off until a class was available at one point only to be told that I didn't have enough to finish. The instructor taught from YouTube...I could have taught myself from there without paying them. The software they made me load crashed my laptop and I had to pay to get that fixed out of my pocket. If not, I wouldn't have been able to get as far as I did. I barely managed to get an Associates Degree before. I needed the Bachelors to be considered a professional in the Art world... please tell me how I can get added to this lawsuit.
Sara Brannon on July 01, 2017:
I am $22k in the hole with UOP. Was pressured into enreolling and was promised the world. I obtained 30 credits, of which 15 were transferable. I am not investigating money they said they sent me but I never received. They did not tell me that I was awarded Pell Grant money, and in their system they are showing that they sent me checks for the money and cashed them and I did not. They stole my money and now 10 years later trying to get it back is a nightmare. This should be illegal.
Malima, R. K. on June 29, 2017:
It's a true robbery by the university. A massive student loan on my back plus wasted hours in class for useless and bogus education standard. I enrolled for a 3 years MBA program in 2009 which is not worthy even for an undergraduate level. Now, I'm unable not only to get job of its status, but a student loan that I cannot service and a debt collection action in the process. Please add me to the lawsuit.
Alicia Robinson on June 20, 2017:
Please add me to the lawsuit! I spent $48k on a a MAEd that I haven't been able to use. I was misled! I told them exactly what I wanted to do after pursuing a masters, and they blatantly misled me. No one will acknowledge 18 cr hours in order for me to teach. Wasted time and money!

WOW! I have been working on my Doctorate for 6 years now; maybe 5 with some time off here and there to focus attention on Family and work; UOPX makes that seem so easy! I have completed 62/62 credits and 3 residencies with air fare and hotel accommodation out of my pocket. For the past two years my proposal has been in "review", then my Chair was let go, had to find a new Chair (who really is the only good person in this whole situation) and of course this took me off track another 6 months. Now, with 78,000 in loans I still have no degree and, like many others, not a single job prospect to meet the financial demand of the program. If I had know this I would have transferred a long time ago. I did have some good professors, I do not blame them. UOPX practices are not honest and all people want to do is make a better life for themselves, family, and beyond. Heart breaking!

I absolutely want in on this lawsuit!! I graduated in May of 2013, but believe that my degree means jack squat. U of P did the same stuff to me and it angers me everyday! U of P should have to do loan forgiveness and pay all of us the interest on the loans. I have six loans I would love the interest on! I went through six different Financial Aid Advisors and three were fired! I have been questioning about my pell grants, but glad to read that I am not the only one who has had their grants held for ransom so to speak...email me with information firstname.lastname@example.org.

Please include me in this lawsuit. As a veterans the cost was still horrendous. I believe they especially prey on military and claim to be for the military. Their practices are non-ethical, and illegal to say the least. I felt deceived, disrespected and lied to. This is not right! They used me and so many others. Please forgive this loan and put this school out of business! I spent 20 years in service and I deserve better!

I have the exact same thing happening to me. Where do I get help?
JanieBird-59 on February 11, 2017:
They returned my loan money, sent me a bill for it, AFTER demanding payment by voicemail AND letter. I went to my account page and it reads that I owe $0. Tried to order an official transcript but got an on-screen message that I have a financial obligation to satisfy so they will not release an official transcript.
I left because I finally figured out that I wasn't going to get a degree I could use. The final straw was in my 400 level class. I was basically in charge of the "Learning Team" despite another being named to be in charge. I was having to rewrite nearly everyone's submissions because the majority of my team - 1. Didn't understand written instructions, 2. Could not support their premise, 3. Could not write a complete sentence, spellcheck or use proper grammar much less format, cite, or write the reference section (APA formatting) of their submission. I was half way in to my second or third 400 level class in which this was happening when it dawned on me that if people in 400 level classes couldn't do these things and were still being promoted to the next class, those of us who knew what we were doing were screwed.
I attempted to discuss this with a counselor - a waste of time. It became GLARINGLY obvious that the money was the central focus.
Now I am over $17k in (I'd had some loans prior) and no degree and no prospects of a job using anything I learned.
Please, if I can be a part of this lawsuit, I have evidence to back my claims.

Kim Bevineau on January 16, 2017:
How do you get in on the lawsuit? I attended the online version and they are still coming after me saying I OWE THEM after my loans paid for my school now I am stuck owning them and 40 grand in student loans. and the school will not return calls and provide proof.
Yolanda Miller on January 02, 2017:
I graduated in February 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration/Long-Term Care from University of Phoenix. They did the same thing to me with the student loans, saying I owed them money. The instructors were not helpful and most of the time I could not get in contact with them. It was like I was teaching the classes to myself.
Right after graduation I sent resumes out to all of the nursing homes and assisted living facilities in my city and surrounding cities and always got turned down for the job. I ended up taking a CNA class and worked as a CNA making 9 or 10 dollars an hour.
I have been working at a hospice house for the last 4 and 1/2 years and make between 11 to 12 dollars an hour. I have used the maximum amount of deferments that are allowed by the Department of Education. I can still get a forbearance but those are temporary and I am getting harrassed with phone calls all the time from the student loan collectors.
I am seriously in on this lawsuit against UOP with all the rest of you.
Patrick julian on December 22, 2016:
Add me to this suit .. I was lead to believe that the classes I was taking at UOP were transferable, I recently got my AA from a Jr. college and tried to use all of my 8 UOP classes towards transferring to a 4yr university and NONE of my marketing UOP classes transferred to a four yr University like I was told they would by my counselors...waste of ALOT of money!
Cheryl on December 17, 2016:
I too was lied to just to keep going further and accumulate tuition debt. There are most of these posts asking how to be involved in this suit, but I am not seeing any responses. How does one join the suit? I now owe over $46,000 just for my Assoc degree, which is totally useless.
