There are clear differences between the treatment of patients being admitted in public or private hospitals. Public hospitals are government-funded medical institution helping the less fortunate citizens in the country while private hospitals are mostly owned by well-off individuals or funded by corporations.

With the above-mentioned differences, the quality of service between the two are also compared and scrutinized by the public. If you have the money, you can immediately sought the service of a private hospital. If you don’t have, just settle to the public or government hospitals and suffer the slow and killing procedures being rendered by medical staff.

Malpractices in the offing

When my sister was recently admitted (April 19th, 2010) in a public hospital (Pasay City General Hospital) here in the Philippines due to miscarriage, Travel Man observed the inconsistencies and rude treatments of medical staff to those patients being admitted.

  1. Even if my sister is really bleeding, there was no assistance (like a medic carrying a stretcher or wheelchair) to ferry my sister to the second floor where the OB-Gynecology ward is located. They let my bleeding sister walk up to the second floor.
  2. The medical staff of the ward didn't immediately rendered the appropriate treatment for my sister. We have waited for twelve before they performed the cleaning of the uterus of my sister.
  3. When Travel Man continuously followed up his sister's situation, the OB-Gyne staff will just answer that she will look into the record. Later, Travel Man flared up and that's the only time they performed the cleaning procedure to my sister's womb. He didn't heard the derogatory remark of the staff that she wished his sister be killed.
  4. After the operation, the staff presented the fetus remains sealed in a small lab bottle and asked Travel Man to pay for 500 pesos (more than 10 US dollars) for its HistoPathology (that will be released after three days). He reasoned out that he will pay it at the accounting department of the hospital, not to them.

Scary Incidents in the hospital during the stay of TM's sister.

  • The death of a woman that was killed during the delivery of her baby due to ruptured uterus!
  • The threat receive by a mother in the delivery room during the cesarean operation. The midwife cussed and said a very defamatory remark that she will be killed if she didn't behave properly during the operation.
  • Travel Man was informed that some pregnant women who were in their 'due stage' for baby delivery were always urged by medical staff to control the contraction of their wombs resulting to some defects of the babies. Some of the infants ate the feces of their mothers! Gross!

Complaints and all

One mother who underwent cesarean operations, who was threatened by her female doctor, is preparing to complain to the administrator of the hospital. Since the administrator is an incumbent politician, he cannot be seen by some complainants. As if, the staff didn't seem to mind the malpractices being observed and witnessed by the relatives of the patients admitted in the medical institution.

Travel Man is also preparing his complaints in writings and in his hub, so that a medical institution like the Pasay City General Hospital should be reviewed and punished. There is no room for a medical institution like this in the city of Manila.

Treatment at the Hospitals

Quality Medical Service and Treatment

Quality medical service and treatment should be possessed by a medical institution, especial the public hospitals. It's the expectation of most people who are going to be admitted in the hospital. from simple cleaning of wounds up to the serious clinical operations or major surgeries, we leave our lives to the hands of the doctors, nurses and medical staff. They should give the quality of service ordinary people long for.

The situation of the Health Care System in the Philippines should be improved soon. Although, generally people in the country are known for its hospitality, your impression can be changed if you will observe and experience the treatment of medical practitioners. But, with your PhilHealth card, some medical expenses will be rendered as free.

Travel Man will not stereotype them, but, with his recent experience with the staff of Pasay City General Hospital, his goal is not to be admitted in a public hospital.

@nurse: Thank you for defending your profession.

I can't control the sentiments of the readers. I just did what my conscience dictated when I wrote this.

God bless.

@Juan: It's a clear indication of malpractice in the field of medicine. My sympathy is with your family.

Dr Putera & Dra Trininidad .. Patay na ang pasyente nyo... Di nyo man lang nsabi ang sakit after 3 weeks confinement..

Ireno Alcala (author) from Bicol, Philippines on September 27, 2013:

@Patient 11: Better go to PGH because Pasay City GH lacks doctors who are capable of finding the right prognosis with your patient's ailment.

@Tao kami: Most people who admitted their patients @ Pasay City GH have the same sentiments.

@Taga bantay: I don't have better idea than yours.

Note: This have was conceived due to my sister's harrowing experience with some personnel in this government hospital. I hope in the future, medical practitioners in this medical institution will be sensitive enough to address the needs of each patient immediately in order to save lives.

@er: My cousin is an obe-gyne doctor @ Pasay City General Hospital. She said that her schedule does not limit to this public hospital alone. Her call time always brought her to other lay-in centers, for example in Pasig or even Pateros, if her time permits.

So, the nurses should take charge of the patients confined inside the said public edifice.

er on August 26, 2013:

Mga doctor bisita naman kayo sa mga pina confine nyo.. kasi ang nurse station parang cal center lang .. tawag dito tawag duon mga naka NGANGA.. DOK dalaw dalaw din pag may time

@ernerofranco0001: Sana mabago na ang imahe ng mga government hospitals, gaya ng Pasay City GH.

There's always room for improvement, unless they want it to be privatized.

@ernerofranco0001: Thank you for your testimony regarding the veracity of my hub or article.

I already informed my cousin who's also serving as one of the medical practitioners there.

How I wish na ma-expedite or ma-fast-track ang pag-rehabilitate ng mga public hospitals dito sa Pilipinas, gaya ng Pasay City Gen. Hospital.

I made this public so that local legislators of the city will work it out in a jiffy.

Many less-fortunate families are relying on the services of public medical institutions.

I hope public officials will serve their constituents actively.

@mine nival: I've experienced such harsh treatment, too as I told it here on my hub when I accompanied my sister at the public hospital of Pasay City. Parang'di sila nag-aral ng Good Manners and Right Conduct.

Thanks for reporting such incident. If they didn't pay their dues here on Earth, they'll suffer the consequences when Judgment Day comes.

mine nival on August 24, 2012:

My father died just last april 28 2012 naka experience kami ng mga rude doctors d'yan sa Amang Rodriguez Hospital dito sa marikina city. Dr. Garcia and Dr. Regalado to name a few. Nakita na nga nilang mahina talaga tatay ko at di na talaga makatayo sasabihin pang walang sakit at di raw ka admit admit sa hospital. so we went to Labor Hospital in project 4 quezon city doon nalaman ang tunay na sakit ng tatay ko. sana naman wag silang bastos sa mga pasyente dahil buhay ang pinag- uusapan hindi basta paninda lang sa palengke.

Ireno Alcala (author) from Bicol, Philippines on August 13, 2012:

@marlyn: That's what I'm explaining here. Most of them or if not few of them are rude and unprofessional when dealing with stressed-out family member of a confined patient.

To put on record what they did to my sister, through verbal abuse and threatening gestures, I've been able to publish my personal experience.

Sana magbago sila ng ugali, kasi kung sa kanila mangyari 'yun baka mas higit pa ang danasin nila sa kapwa nila miembro ng medisina.

@earthbound1974: Thanks for another information about this disgusting hospital. Some patients even relayed to me that some hospital staff threatened them if their payments are delayed. Even my sister who underwent cleaning of her uterus scolded me because she was threatened by the nurse who conducted the procedure and uttered nasty things that will cost her life. She said that it was the result of my complaint. Had I didn't talked about it, maybe or for sure, she'll be operation the next morning since she's paying through health care.

I also noted that they're asking payment when in fact, they're not authorized to receive such payment.

Ireno Alcala (author) from Bicol, Philippines on May 26, 2011:

@Online Medical Transcription: Thanks for your info about the situation of hospitals in India. Yes, I've seen patients in a public hospital where some patients were at the alleyways of the medical institution due to overcrowding. Maybe, this is true among private hospitals. The usual procedure is to pay first for the operation before the patient will be operated. And this is a very sad note about hospitals.

earthbound1974 from Bicol, Philippines on March 28, 2011:

I've also heard about Pasay City General Hospital. They're not patient-friendly!

Online Medical Transcription on February 02, 2011:

In India previously doctors treat their patient to cure from disease and now they become a money making machines that is why they make their hospitals as hotels and one who is paying is in the room and others are out of room.

Ireno Alcala (author) from Bicol, Philippines on June 01, 2010:

Some medical practitioners are too proud of their profession. They forget their Hippocratic Oath soon; that is to serve people in need in whichever way they can.

thesailor from Seven Seas on April 23, 2010:

This is very ridiculous! Why are they doing this to the local patients (who are Filipinos, their countrymen). I knew of a story that when the patient being admitted is a foreigner, they will render an very good service to them while the opposite when it's a Filipino.
