Thoughts on the American Election: Does It Matter for the World Who Wins?

MG is a keen political observer and commentator who has a ringside seat to the turbulent years of the present political scenario

The US election is one of the most important events in world history. It decides who will lead the most powerful nation in the world. This election is very important because the American supremacy is under threat from none other than the very country Americans had mollycoddled for five decades. Right from the time, China went nuclear in 1964 and President Johnson just shrugged his shoulders to the time Richard Nixon made his journey to pay obeisance to Chairman Mao, to the time when billions of dollars in investment and technology were gifted to China; the world has seen the creation of a Frankenstein.

Both the American contenders for the post of the president are well past their prime and it is a known fact that with age the mental faculties also diminish. Having said that I presume both are mentally alert but it will require different mettle to face China. There is so much news available about both contenders regarding their dealing with China. Right now that I am sitting in the Atlas bar and watching the results coming up on the giant screen with my friend Wing Commander T of the Royal Air Force. The general opinion is that both of them will not be able to collar the Chinese. The general feeling in the bar is that it will make no difference whether Biden wins or Trump wins because the downslide which had started for the last five decades cannot be arrested now. In fact, it became marked from the time of Clinton and that is a good three decades back.

The world has changed

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States was the unipolar power in the world but is now threatened by China. They have made no bones in announcing that they are not going to share the sun with the Americans. I have just been told by my friend that the Chinese have decided to match the American military by 2027 and even now they are militarily very powerful in their own region and threatening India and Taiwan and have occupied the South China Sea.

What happened in the South China Sea is certainly not the fault of Trump or Biden. It is a cumulative effect of various American presidents who probably thought that they could partner with China and rule the world. This was the great fallacy of the 21st century and now as the saying goes the birds have come home to roost. President Duterte of the Philippines was very telling in one of his comments when he said the Americans were never serious to control China in the South China Sea and if they wanted to decades back they could have sent five aircraft carriers in the region and stopped everything. I will add something more in 1964 Johnson could have ordered a strike on the nuclear facilities of China when China had nothing with them and the Russians were hoping the Americans will do it because Russia- China divide had commenced.

The American think tank thought the Soviets to be the greater danger and China was preferred and in fact, encouraged. Now facts have come to light that the Wuhan laboratory which spread the virus in the West and the world has been funded by millions of dollars by the United States. What have the Americans to say about it?

For the last seven decades, the Americans tacitly accepted the Chinese atrocities in Tibet and Sinkiang. This is a blot on the Americans who say they support freedom.

Last thought

China has now donned the mantle of the Nazi regime. Most Americans may not be aware of what is happening in China and I've been there and have seen how Chinese society is not only regimented but living in a censored world. There are no elections and then the Chinese President is now president for life. You dissent with the government and the solution is the concentration camp or disappearance; nobody will ever hear of you again.

Hundreds of Tibetans have immolated themselves and Americans must ask why would a man burn himself if he was not frustrated and having no hope. This has had no effect on any American presidents earlier and even Donald Trump the moment he took over, one of the first people he called over to his luxury resort was the Chinese President. This was because he had an ax to grind and he was hand in glove with China. How can this man face China? He has stated a number of times that he gets along very well with President Xi. Yes! Because his daughter got six patents from China

Biden is no better and the question is choosing between two bad eggs. That is the bane of America. The people outside want America to take the leadership of the world but the American military still has Russian phobia. This is just a small piece that I have written off the cuff; in fact, I have dictated it to Sue who has come with me and is having the Macallan with me and Wg Cdr T at the bar. How much time did it take? 20 minutes. I hope people will read it and I'll be happy to hear what others have to say about what I have written. No offense meant

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 17, 2020:

Thanks, Denise, yes I expected this but I also expected that Biden cannot face china. let's see.

Denise McGill from Fresno CA on November 16, 2020:

Now that it is all over, did it come out as you expected? I was surprised but pleasantly so.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 09, 2020:

Thanks, Leslie, Hope for the best.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 08, 2020:

Lesli, It's a pleasure to read your comment. All I will say is that we can agree to disagree. Biden has his work cut out but as we say the taste of the pudding is in its eating. We both will be around 4 years hence and let's see how Biden performs.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on November 08, 2020:

He looks very healthy, to me. And I think Kamala is waiting for 2024...... you know, when trump runs again.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 08, 2020:

Leslie, it's always a pleasure to read your comments. All I will say is that we can agree to disagree. Best of luck to Biden but he better be in good health because it would be a travesty in case the VP becomes is the President.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 08, 2020:

Ken, thanks for commenting. Biden has won and best of luck to him. I will relate a small incident in my office. We have lots of Chinese in Singapore and also in my office and all of them were celebrating the victory of Biden. I asked one of them why was he so happy and he replied Biden is our MAN. I hope to God that this is not horribly true but that is the perception among the Chinese. Let's see what happens further.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 08, 2020:

Bharat, thanks for commenting. America is in for a tough time and Biden has not won an overwhelming victory. He is 78 and you never know what will happen. Kamla Harris as president? I get nightmares.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on November 08, 2020:

lol! At least these multi nationals will pay taxes under Biden.

Trump didn’t just bend the knee to them, he bowed and curtsied.

And you still don’t get Biden, at all. He doesn’t back down to anyone.

It’s why trump tried so hard to derail him. Got him impeached, remember?

Love these psychics of the right....I like David Icke, too.

Jones, Rogan? Q? You can have em.

Ken Burgess from Florida on November 07, 2020:

Biden and the Dems will bend the knee to China and International Corporatism like they always have.

That is all any within China's sphere of influence really need to understand about what this election means.

America will stand down, back off, and give in to China wherever and whenever with Biden running the show.

Bharat Sharan from Dhanbad on November 07, 2020:

Hi Emge,

I totally agree with you and your views. But what's happening in America I thought happened only in Asia, and India.Since then India has gone electronic, and America is still living in its past. But I am sure America and its citizens will get things chnged.

Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on November 07, 2020:

You too, emge? Many people voted by mail because of Covid. Trump told his followers not to.

I think he did it deliberately, so he could do just what you are falling for now: another con.

Get the trump votes in early, then claim the mail in Democratic ballots are a fraud.

Voting by mail is actually more secure than voting machines.

I seem to recall stating in 2016 that the machines were changing Clinton votes to trump, and was laughed out of town by the same trump people who cry foul now.

As far as China, trump could care less about human rights violations.....we have our own camps at the border, in case you haven’t noticed!

And, there are opinions out there that China, like others, want trump to win, as he has so handily destroyed America and all our alliances.

We are not a country anymore, but an add-on to Trump, Inc.

( sorry if it’s too biased, it’s hard to read much of anything nowadays with the paywalls and having to join email lists)

Had to google article 370. No surprise, it seems I agree with Harris.

“We have to remind Kashmiris that they are not alone in the world. We are keeping track of the situation. There is a need to intervene if the situation demands,” says U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris. When former U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden announced on Aug. 11 that Harris had accepted his offer to run as his vice president, her half-Indian heritage became a matter of great discussion in the South Asian media. The above quote is one that has won Harris considerable support from Indian-American Muslims and Sikhs but rattles India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Even the Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW) states: “Kamala Harris has some radical views on Kashmir, India needs to be cautious.”

Funny, Tulsi Gabbard stood with the BJP party, too.....and attacked Kamala. Rightwingers are all alike, eh?

“That is a new phenomenon for the BJP since its relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration had, at least of late, been one of collaboration, as both Trump and Modi are aligned in their Islamophobic agendas.”

Same as his alignment with Bibi, and total ignoring of Palestinians.

And I’ll remind you, millions MORE Americans support Biden, millions more supported Hillary, too, and it seems to matter zip.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 07, 2020:

Ken, it looks almost cut and dried that Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States. This is nothing to feel very happy and great about this victory which in my view is a Pyrrhic victory. I have been answering a lot of questions on two websites as channel advisor which need not be mentioned here but the sum total of what I have written is that it should not be forgotten that Joe Biden has won a fractured vote. Nowhere is it an overwhelming victory. Millions and millions of Americans have supported Trump and definitely it does raise eyebrows that Trump who was leading in most of the states on polling day slipped behind after the postal ballots were counted. This certainly calls for an inquiry. I think this is a flaw in the American election process which was formulated 200 years back and now needs to be changed when electronic voting machines have come and it must be ensured that everybody comes and votes on the voting machines and not send postal ballots and then sit back and relax. Postal ballots are definitely a weak link in the entire process. There can be a potential for manipulation I'm not saying it has happened I am just saying that it's all not hunky-dory. Trump was no way better than Biden but at least he has realized the danger being posed by China which as I have written is the successor of the Nazi regime. Americans are not aware of what is happening in China where 100,000 US Uighur Muslims have been put in concentration camps and the woman behind has been married off to Han Chinese. Hundreds of Tibetans have immolated themselves and yet we have no word on this from Mr. Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris. On top of it, Kamala Harris has been talking about article 370 of India and the national citizenship act. Wonder how such a person is going to be the vice president of the United States and tomorrow God forbid something happens she will be the President. I think I'll have to die laughing on a bed of nails no offense meant; take it as a joke.

Within another 6 months to year, the effect of Joe Biden's presidency will be visible. I remember reading one of his speeches where he had mentioned that Muslims are being discriminated so he may like to set that right and get more of these people there in America he will also mollycoddle China for a new trade deal and I can assure you the Chinese are extremely happy that Biden is the President and not Trump. Biden has been in politics for 50 years: I am not aware what has been his contribution. As I have written in my article it's a question of selecting between two bag eggs, which is the bane of America. Probably when an empire has to slide down it insures that the leaders who come are not capable that is how the great dynasties like the Ottoman Empire in the Mogul Dynasty collapsed. One good thing is that Biden will be around only for four years and maybe a better man, a more dynamic man, someone like general Eisenhower will come up at that time.

Ken Burgess from Florida on November 06, 2020:

What a Biden Admin will mean is that UN and International Organization policies will become core parts of his policies.

The Global Compact on Migration will be ratified by Executive Order if nothing else, same with the goals of Agenda 2030.

National Sovereignty will be supplanted and global authorities (WB, WHO, ICJ, IMF) will become the ultimate authority which will supersede the Federal Gov as well as the Constitution.

The Paris Accord the TTP and TPP will be reconstituted or something similar developed and put in their place.

But there will be far greater changes if the contested two GA Senate seats go to the Democrats, giving them complete control of Congress, then sweeping changes will occur without opposition well beyond what I have mentioned so far.

They could change the amount of Justices on the Supreme Court, Raise Taxes, reinstall the Penalties for not having Insurance, institute a Social Credit system, etc.

Trade will quickly revert to favoring China and giving tax breaks to corporations that move their HQs overseas... essentially everything good that did come out of Trump's Administration will be undone, and the siphoning of wealth and jobs from Americans will be back on track as it had been the 25 years prior to Trump.

America's economic decline and the disaffection with National Sovereignty will be back on track to where it was four years ago.

The ultimate winner in this is not America or the Democrats, its China.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 05, 2020:

Ken, thank you for your comment. You have more or less summed up what I feel. One thing we must remember that great empires do have a demise and the Ottoman Empire also collapsed after 1918. If Trump had got a second term perhaps the American empire would have lingered on a little longer but with Joe Biden the writing is on the wall. Many royal air force officers who are settled in Singapore and my friends are convinced that Biden is going to make up with China and that is going to sound the deathknell of the American empire. Even at home he is going to allow unstinted migration from Muslim lands and he is not going to challenge China on Tibet and other matters and more and more foreign workers will come to America. With more Muslims there will be more strife Biden should well be where of what is happening in France and the EU. In that respect, Donald Trump had his Ideas clear

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 05, 2020:

Kalpana, thank you so much for your comment it's refreshing to read your fresh ideas.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 05, 2020:

Thank you, Chitra for commencing I am a frequent visitor to America though I have not gone there for the last one year because of the China virus but I can see and sense that the American Empire is going to finish and Joe Biden is going to be the engine for it.

Ken Burgess from Florida on November 05, 2020:

I think the difference between Trump and Biden on the international stage is a simple one.

With Trump you have someone trying to maintain America's economic dominance at the expense of others, especially China.

With Biden, you have compliance with the grander international scheme which has America fading into the background as International bodies (IE - WB, IMF) and Corporations take control.

With Trump you had some resurgence of employment and growing wages for Americans, with Biden you will have a reversion as work visas and open borders allow in more people than ever before. This of course benefits corporations which can get cheaper labor, even as it comes at the expense of America's poor which are left competing for those "blue collar" jobs with immigrants (legal, visa, or illegal).

Trump resisted UN efforts like Agenda 2030 and the Global Compact for Migration, Biden will fully support them and his Administration will fast track them America.

Kalpana Iyer from India on November 05, 2020:

I think it is the first time ever I have been interested in the US elections. And last year, was also the first time ever that I got interested in Indian elections as well. I am not sure if this interest comes with age (though 20 year olds nowadays are more political), but the interest surely has peaked for sure when the 2 new leaders (in US and India) came into the picture. What will happen, only time can tell.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on November 05, 2020:

Good informative article!

Yes, the US elections does have an impact on the World. We all are watching closely, and waiting for the results. Many of my close family lives in the USA.

Thank you for sharing.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 04, 2020:

Audrey, it's a pleasure to read your comment. It's a tough time for the USA.

Audrey Hunt from Pahrump NV on November 04, 2020:

I'm glad to have found this article. Informative and well documented. Here, in America, we shall soon find out who will be our next president. It's a frightening time.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 04, 2020:

Flourish, thank you and I also hope Biden can bring America back to the days when Ike was president. However I have a rider, I don't see that happening. Biden has been around for half a century, whats his contribution? He is better than Trump is not a solace because I think he is going to compromise on China and that is going to be the death knell of the US as world no 1. . When seeds are sown they take time to sprout and 10 years from now we both will see what happens when China is a bigger power and the no 1 economy and then people may remember Biden, he won't be around as president. All the same with so many relations of mine American citizens, I hope all goes well and he can be up to the task. God bless.

FlourishAnyway from USA on November 04, 2020:

Trump is a thoroughly rotten man and an utter disaster. It may not matter for you but it matters for this country. Being old, past one’s prime is not a bad thing if you are a good and wise person supported by an administration of like minded experts to provide sound counsel. Reagan was old and obviously had dementia but was revered. I didn’t agree with all of his policies but he kept it between the lines. Joe Biden is a good, decent, mentally stable man who will do great if he is President.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on November 04, 2020:

Thank you, Pamela, for a reasoned comment.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on November 04, 2020:

I know that China has been mismanaged for for a long time and I hope that will change. It seems a lot of people don't like many things about China, especially the virus. I know some companies have left China but others stay. The whole situation is frustrating. You spelled out your view very clearly in this interesting article, MG, and I think you are probably right.
