The attention of many people is on secret societies. They have been around throughout history. What gets attention drawn to them? Two things: secrets and men of power being a part of them.
The Order of the Skull and Bones is one of America’s favorite secret societies to link to every major event in world history since its founding. Their name is legendary and reaches into the highest levels of American society.
Skull and Bones is a secret society founded at Yale University that is still going strong today. It was founded in 1832 by William Huntington Russell who spent time in Germany when secret societies were rising in number and were the trend of the day. Upon his return to America at Yale, he set up the headquarters in The Tomb and began gathering special, limited number of members called Bonesmen.
The number of members was deliberately kept limited as each year 15 juniors are chosen by seniors to join the restrictive club during their senior year. They go through a very secretive initiation that varies is description from morbid to just plain bizarre. Each person reporting the events swear that their information is correct. If that is the case, each person’s initiation can be different and the imaginations of those behind it worth of horror novels.
The society has been a controversial topic since its founding. Those that were not part of it felt threatened by what was perceived as special privileges given to the society and the exclusion and secrecy that came with it. There are have always been rumors of morbid rituals and décor. A rival school club reportedly broke into The Tomb and found skulls, black velvet, and candles. This led to even more rumors of the satanic rites that were assumed to be going on.
Is this true? Hard to say when the limited number of members that are alive at one time are quiet about everything except their membership to the club. This actually fuels the rumors.
What makes them so susceptible to rumors and looked at as something to be scared of?
Anytime there are secrets, people get suspicious and scared. What they don’t know, they make up. It could be true, but most of the stories that arise about secret societies are wild imaginations making up what they just have no clue about. If all was true, there would no secrets in the secret society.
Nothing can get the lips flapping more than suspicion and being kept out of the know. That is why the tabloids do so well.
If only nobodies belonged to secret societies, then few would care what was going on behind closed doors. Think about it! It is only because presidents, rich and powerful men, and those that have run large companies in America have claimed membership in The Skull and Bones society. If these men who hold so much sway over our government, economy, and life as we know it belong to a society that participates in wild, satanic rituals, then there has to be more to the story than a group of boys who get together in their last year of college to laugh at everyone else who is not part of their “special” group.
The Skull and Bones society has been accused of supporting Hitler, involved in the assassination of JFK, part of the drug trafficking, and stealing Geronimo’s bones. More research would bring up more conspiracies that the men of the society supposedly have been involved in.
Really Up to No Good?
The Order of the Skull and Bones have been around for almost 200 years and has kept its activity completely secret. What better way to keep eyes on you and possible good laughs going on within the club as the rest of the world make up wild rumors? Then again, maybe they are biting at their nails as their secrets are leaking and their activities are being exposed. Until they speak out, we cannot know the complete truth. The result, The Order of the Skull and Bones will say one of history’s famous secret societies.
