What is Mindfulness
Greater Good Magazine defines mindfulness as the state of being in the moment, be aware of your feelings without judgement in order to accept your thoughts and feelings.
Mindfulness has been practiced in ancient religions for thousands of years. Mindfulness is rooted in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Zen Buddhism. However it began gaining popularity in Europe and America around 1960. The young people of this generation were looking for spiritual awakening that didn't involve traditional religion.
Mindfulness really took hold in part because of Jon Kabat-Zinn. In 1979 he launched his program the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Since then there have been thousands of studies that show using Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is beneficial to everyone, especially within schools, jails, and prison.
The Mindfulness Symbol
What Does the Symbol Mean
Cibulskisa, a Lithuanian graphic artist, invented a conceptualized symbol to help people meditate and stay rooted to the present. The symbol has been used in psychology and spiritual guidance.
The Mindfulness Symbol is shaped like a water drop mirroring one another. The symbol represents the past, present, and future. The past and future are illusions of what has occurred and what may occur. The present we're in right now is reality. The symbol is a reminder to be mindful of the moment you're in.
The Universal Message
According to Radical Course the Mindfulness Symbol is open source and free to use. The mission of the Mindfulness Symbol is to spread the Universal truth of Mindfulness. Our minds are ever changing but the message is to remind us that we can always bring our minds back to the present.
Everyday we as humans worry about things that's happened although we cannot redo it or we're so stressed worrying about what may occur in the future in which we have no control over. This causes negative thoughts, depression and other problems. Being Mindful of the present has been proven to be beneficial mentally and physically.
