The Suisei Japanese Yokosuka D4Y codenamed "Judy" was a Japanese dive bomber in World war II. Over 2,000 of the Japanese Yokosuka D4Y were built from 1942 until 1945. The D4Y was one of the fastest dive bombers in World War II and was built to substitute the Japanese dive bomber Aichi D3A's for carrier use.
The Yokosuka D4Y was used on many Japanese aircraft carriers throughout the Pacific theater in World War II and caused considerable damage to allied ships as dive bombers and on kamikaze attacks. They were also used at the last of the war in defense of mainland Japan as fighters.
The Japanese Yokosuka D4Y was powered by a V12 Aichi Atsuta (daimler benz design). The Japanese Yokosuka D4Y had a top speed of over 340 mph. The Japanese Yokosuka D4Y had a service ceiling of over 35,000 feet and a range of over 900 miles.
The Japanese Yokosuka D4Y was armed with two 7.7 mm machine guns in front and one 7.92 machine gun in back. The Japanese Yokosuka D4Y could carry 1,100 to 1,700 lbs of bombs.
