The Fascinating Story of the Man From the Year 3906

The Background

To begin with, it was a remarkable story from an unremarkable person.

Paul Dienach neither harbored any dreams to be a best-selling writer nor did he have a burning interest to travel in the future. However, by a strange concoction of circumstances, he managed to do both.

Paul Amadeus Dienach was a Swiss-Austrian teacher living in Geneva in 1921. His story takes the turn for the bizarre when he becomes affected with lethargic encephalitis, a disease that leads him to a state of coma for more than a year in a hospital in Geneva.

When he finally woke up, he began to write his diary in which he said something unbelievable. According to Dienach, during his period of coma, he claimed to have entered the body of another person, Andreas Northam, who lived in the year 3906 AD.

In 3906, the physicist Andreas Northam had near death due to an accident. When he woke up, he was Paul Dienach who spoke in an unknown language. At the same time, Paul Dienach was in a coma in a Geneva hospital in 1921 and could not wake up.

Obviously, Andreas Northam could not recognize his family, suffered from past visions, and had problems adjusting to the present. The doctors of Andreas Northam understood his state and were able to diagnose it as ‘Conscious Slide’, a state in which a person is conscious of what happens around him but lives in a different time period. The doctors and other local people explained to him all the stuff that happened in the history of humankind from the 21st to the 40th century (their present).

Dienach writes everything in his diary that he experienced of the environment and people in the year 3906 AD. And before he died, he entrusted it to his favorite student, a Greek named George Papahatzis with simple instructions that he should use the diary to improve his German by translating it from German to Greek.

That was when Papahatzis realized that he was actually reading a fantastic diary from the future!

George Papahatzis decided to publish Dienach's Diary. An edition appeared in 1979 but was dismissed immediately as a hoax of ‘gigantic’ proportions. The book disappeared and soon afterward Papahatzis died and along with him, the fantastic story of Paul Amadeus Dienach was obliterated into history as the ravings of a deranged person.

Paul sees a troubled future for humankind followed by utopia and spiritual awakening.

The Story of Paul Amadeus Dienach

Dienach paints a poignant picture of the future, starting with overpopulation, ecological destruction, war, and finally humankind creating a utopian world of peace and happiness.

As Dienach wrote, the years from 2000 to 2300s would be the worst years for humankind, replete with overpopulation, famine, regional conflicts, and ecological disasters. The time will be characterized by bitter nuclear arms races between the nations, and soon there would not be enough food left for everybody in the world to survive, as nations would blast fertile lands into radioactive wastelands.

Mars will be colonized by 2100 and a large population of 20 million will be staying and earning a living out there. Unfortunately, in 2265, a great natural cataclysm will kill all the colonists and there will be no second attempt to leave our planet.

Despite several attempts by several leaders to soothe the volcanic world situation, the world would inadvertently enter into a global war in 2309. Chaos would prevail for the next 80 years, resulting in large destruction of humans and their assets across the world. Humans survive the catastrophe and finally, in 2396, all the remaining nations unite to create a world government. The representatives of this government are elected by direct elections and are mostly scientists, engineers, or benevolent humans. The Earth will not be overpopulated anymore and a new, better era will start.

Dienach says after 2600, the Earth would be reaching a period of utopian happiness and prosperity that continues to date (3906). People enter a new golden age of world civilization. People learn about the sun, atmosphere, and its history of billions of years. Cities are also built across various galaxies and science makes astounding progress.

Everyone has free clothes, food, a roof over his/her head, free transportation, access to scientific knowledge, products of all kinds, and entertainment. In terms of working hours, an average human being only has to spend two years during his/her lifetime working, allowing him/her to have a lot of free time to pursue creative activities and new sciences during the rest of his/her life. Animals are neither slaughtered nor domesticated, as natural plant-based food becomes the norm across the world.

People experience a spiritual renaissance in the 3300s where they can directly connect with their inner self and create an empathetic world by tuning into their finer spiritual planes. Success is no longer measured by material possessions, but by how one is able to create a better life for others.

Can This Be True?

The story is extraordinary. It is strange, hard to believe, yet it is beautiful and compelling at the same time.

Dienach descriptions and detailed notes of the future are too fleshed out to be dismissed as the nonsensical ravings of a deranged mind. And the current state of the world, we are in, such a future does not really sound too improbable. After all, the light is always seen after the darkness. So similarly, after all the destruction, humans would unleash on each other and the world, it is natural that they might want to usher in a new world where all can live in equality and harmony and all needs can be satisfied.

In a nutshell, the remaining humans would initiate the golden age of humanity.

Could Paul Dienach really see all of it when he was in a coma? I leave that to you as something to ponder about.

Thanks Flourish. Yes it sounds far fetched but humans are perfectly capable of destroying themselves.

I've never heard of Paul Dienach or lethargic encephalitic but this is an entertaining article. I sure hope it's not a foreshadowing of what is to come!

Far-fetched but intriguing! Reminds me of Tanmoy. I thought that only he would write such a piece. When you are ready for Mars, take me with you. You write well. A lovely sci fi piece. Om Shanti!

Ravi, This is really a fascinating story. I enjoyed reading it. The question you asked in the end is a mystery. Who knows really? But Hope for a best tomorrow is always important as they say where there is a will there's a way. If according to his predictions year 2000-2300 would be worst for mankind. I really don't wish to see the years ahead. And somehow,I think it's true, we are seeing every new year is worst than the previous one, No? I hate these political issues. Why be? When we are humans why we can't promote humanity and peace. God has gifted man with knowledge but sadly we are sometimes the worst creatures. May God Bless Us All, Ameen!!

Considering the way humans are acting in the world right now, this wild story becomes more believable. If true, it does not bode well for the immediate future. Let's hope that humanity does not have to devolve so badly before a more peaceful existence is achievable for everyone.
