The Black-Eyed Kids

Update! (September 2012)

NEWEST UPDATE (September 2012): new videos added

Interviews with David Weatherly, author of "Black Eyed Children" available at Leprechaun Press online.

Update - (December 2010): I now have a number of emails sitting in my net address box from people who have been telling me of their experiences with BEKs... these are frightening accounts, most of them, to say the least. NONE of the accounts people have emailed seem to be without some grains of authenticity - although some seem to carry features of psychological, I'm not saying some of these people are psychologically unbalanced... but rather that they've had extreme fright, trauma or something. This seems to be a common factor in both the newer accounts I've been receiving in my email boxes AND the accounts I keep reviewing online...

If ANYONE has more information on BEKs, just email me. I don't have any solid answers for the people who are already emailing me. The most I can do is "listen" and let these people tell me about their experiences when they're afraid to speak out loud about them.

To email me - just get to my profile page. There is a link on the page that says "Send mythbuster an email."

I could sure use some guidance... I've looked into all the things that other people have already said and still, I am no closer to understanding what's going on with these BEK sightings and encounters...and I am leaving my last "update" posted below just so people can see that, well, I'm really not making any progress here.

Perhaps the BEKs are just OUT THERE... perhaps we won't figure them out - but I hope that's not the case...

Ohyeah - and Tee - from the accounts I've posted already in my article here and another similar article elsewhere - has contacted me just briefly...actually the contact was made via a comment section on an article, so I do believe Tee's account is authentic. I do not know what sort of child/teen or entity came to Tee's door several years ago but I do definitely believe the event was traumatic and frightening for her...

Previous Update (Winter 2009):

I wrote that I'd update if I found additional information.

I haven't found anything conclusive but I tracked down a gentleman by email who responded to some general questions I posed about BEKs and Brian Bethel.

I explained my interest in BEKs and my suspicions that these/this phenomenon is largely urban legend and the gentleman responded to my email in just over 24 hours - on Christmas Day 2009, no less! The person is a journalist and researcher/author, himself, who had been able to track down Brian Bethel several years ago about Bethel's BEK account.

Put it this way - I have been urged to research further, myself, before deciding that these BEK accounts are simply urban legend and nothing else. It was suggested that I do some research on "terrestrial" possibilities and that I contact people whose accounts are available online. I was told, also, to get in touch with medical people and theatre (?) people who are in the know about this phenomenon. The latter are harder for me to figure out how to approach but I'm working on it.

A second source from some online forums suggested I look into the topic of "Shadow People," however, I'm not willing to disclose this source because I'm not positive yet that the person is reliable (of course, I should be skeptical, right?).

I'm currently doing the research that Mr. O (don't worry, he won't remain anonymous - I'll put his Amazon book up somewhere on this hub for you - he's a researcher and author in paranormal fields, himself) has suggested and I have emailed Mr. Bethel but have not yet received a reply.

I'm trying to also track down contact information for 3 other main accounts that are commonly found online. If anyone has a line in or on this information, I could use some help.

The three accounts are as such: an account of a couple coming off the interstate in Michigan who encountered an odd female in a restroom who had totally black orbs for eyes, a young 20-something woman who encountered a man in Starbucks who had the same awful eyes, and the following (one I think will be more traceable than the aforementioned accounts):

Tee's Account. A woman who only identifies herself as "Tee," who wrote in to the about .com site following her frightening experience with a youth who seems to fit the same sort of description as Bethel's account of a boy with black orbs for eyes. Tee, an apartment manager refused to take this youth on a tour of a possible apartment when he knocked at her door one day. Tee's account can be found here:

Scroll to Continue

By the way, I'm not sure what to make of the information I'm finding yet. "Shadow People" are slightly outside of my realm of 'urban legend' research and folklore, however, if these BEKs are related to Shadow People - WE NEED TO stop being complacent and stop pooh-poohing things we do not understand as being describable by science thus far - and take better stock of what is around us in this world. That is, whether science can explain things or not.

I've had to take on a sort of chaotic "crash course" in paranormal topics thus far - and I have to say, studying urban legends and folklore is much safer, more comfortable ground! It appears that even if we can't explain 'shadow people,' something is going on that has DEFINITE effects in the world - at least on our psychological states...

This is all very strange research, I must say.

I'll probably have more definite information in another month or so.

Black Eyed Children - Don't Let Them In!

This Is Likely a Contact Lens

BEK's a New Phenomenon

Referred to as B.E.K.s or BEK accounts (B.lack E.yed K.ids) in paranormal communities, stories of Black Eyed Kids are surfacing with great regularity these days.

These are kids with coal-black eyes, no irises apparent, no pupils - just entirely black eyes.

The BEKs want to get into your car with you but it seems they are not fact, they are reported to be much more polite and well-spoken than most pre-teens or teenagers are - more self-aware, self-controlled and confident than most adolescents are. It seems that Black Eyed Kids are aware that they cannot enter your vehicle unless you invite them in. Some Black Eyed Kids want to enter your house. Nobody knowns what for...but they generally ASK VERY POLITELY to enter your house or car.

Few reports exist which tell of what happens IF one allows Black Eyed Kids into a car or house, but any who have reported interacting with Black Eyed Kids say that a feeling of impending doom or of intense fear and dread accompany the interaction!

Of course, it is believed that there's an unfortunate ending if you let a BEK is something akin to inviting a vampire into your home - you perish!

Nobody, it seems, is quite certain of all the details yet...

BEKs Only a Decade Old

Black Eyed Kids are virtual babies within the realms of urban legends. Circulation of the stories about BEKs seem to be traced back only as far as about 1998!

Most BEK accounts are stories found online in blogs, message boards, newsgroups and the like. In fact, the first known posting of a BEK incident was posted by Brian Bethel onto a newgroup he was a member of. It was on January 16, 1998 when Bethel posted to his newsgroup, and other people have been coming forward ever since that time, relating similar accounts, all telling of Kids with Black Eyes who ask to be let into cars, houses, etc.

In most accounts, there are two males, aged from pre-teen to mid-teen years, and the boys always ask to be 'let in' to either a car or home. Sometimes this is to get a ride home or to be taken home so they can get money for a movie (as in Bethel's account). Sometimes they want to be 'let in' to use the washroom in your home.

A similarity in most accounts of BEKs is the impending dread and fear felt by the people who have encountered these strange kids - often before the people even get a chance to have a good look at the BEKs' faces clearly and see the black orbs of their eyes.

This Child Is Beautiful...But The EYES! This girl did not survive the toxins & hypothermia that made her eyes black. See caption area - no disrespect intended

This is the only known picture of a child with entirely black eyes - and this child did not survive a natural disaster whereby her leg was trapped and she was stuck in toxic water... this is what made her eyes black - & also killed her.

Brian Bethel's Account of Black Eyed Kids

On January 16, 1998, a man named Brian Bethel posted online to a newsgroup and told an account of his experience with a very strange and frightening male pre-teen duo. The kids had had approached his car and asked to be "let in" to his car. They spoke UNLIKE pre-teens usually do, using a more formal vocabulary than kids or teens usually use, and one of the most striking aspects of the event was the intense mood-altering 'air' that accompanied the kids' presence. Bethel asserts that an extreme fear overtook him while the pre-teens were standing by his car, which is something he found very strange and overwhelming.

Brian Bethel is a journalist - or at the time, he was a journalist. I have been unable to find much information on the man, himself, although his account of the strange interaction with Black Eyed Kids has been spread far and wide across the internet in newgroup threads, forums, blogs and articles.

I'll certianly update as I find more information on Brian Bethel, himself, but until then, his account is the data we have so far regarding a lengthy explanation of an experience with BEKs.

The Black Eyed Kids, According to Bethel...

Bethel was inside his car which was at a standstill in a parking lot in Abilene Texas. His trip out of the house was for the purpose of paying his bill for Internet services, so his attention was turned to writing out a cheque when two kids approached his car. The likely time of this event was around 9:45pm. Bethel remembered leaving his residence around 9:30pm to complete a 10 to 15 minute drive to where he could take care of his Internet bill.

On the evening in question, the film that was playing in a movie theatre nearby was "Mortal Kombat," and Bethel drove past the theatre in order to park in the lot, stop and write out a cheque. As he was writing, a knock sounded on his driver side window.

When he looked up, Bethel saw two children standing near his car and he deemed them to be around 10-14 years of age. Later, on his internet newsgroup post, he would write that the kids were in that "[...] semi-mystical stage of life children get into where you can't exactly tell their age."

Bethel refers to the children as boys, furthermore as "Boy 1" and "Boy 2" and has said that Boy 1 acted as a "spokesman" for the duo. In hindsight, Bethel would claim that Boy 2 never spoke, "at least not with words" during the incident.

The boys are described as:

"Boy No.1 was slightly taller than his companion, wearing a pull-over, hooded shirt with a sort of gray checked pattern and jeans. I couldn't see his shoes. His skin was olive-colored and [he] had curly, medium-length brown hair. He exuded an air of quiet confidence.

Boy No.2 had pale skin with a trace of freckles. HIs primary characteristic seemed to be looking around nervously. He was dressed in similar manner to his companion, but his pull-over was a light green color. His hair was a sort of pale orange."

Bethel believed the kids intended to ask him for some money, and just when he'd completed this thought, he noted, "then the air changed." He described an overwhelming sense of fear and unearthliness pressing down on him at this point of the experience.

The smile that Boy No.1, the spokesman, offered brought chills to Bethel's blood, and Bethel knew there was something not quite right about the boys and this situation. Even before he responded to the actual knock on the window, he felt his fight-or-flight responses rev up.

Bethel unrolled the window a little bit and asked, "Yes?"

When the spokesman smiled again, Bethel noticed that Boy No.1 had extremely white teeth.

The boy asked, "Hey, mister, what's up? We have a problem." Bethel said the boy's diction was quiet and calm but his voice sounded like that of a young man - not a child. While the boy spoke, Bethel remembers wanting so very much to just FLEE...but the spokesman continued to speak...

"You see, my friend and I want to see the films, but we forgot our money...We need to go to our house to get it. Want to help us out?"

In Bethel's account, he suggests more typical ways that children and young teens use language and the actual way that "spokesman" talked was not typical, in Bethel's opinion.

Instead, Boy No.1 spoke fluently, without any nervous pauses one might expect of a child who is asking a grown-up stranger for money. Bethel remembers only stuttering a reply like "Uh, well..." before noticing something like discomfort or nervousness from Boy No. 2's body language.

"C'mon mister..." Boy No. 1 urged, "Now, we just want to go to our house. And we're just two little boys."

Bethel remembers feeling that the spokesman's manner was all wrong - so was the 2nd boy's body language, but Bethel couldn't quite pinpoint what exactly was wrong about this whole scenario, so finally he asked the boys about what movie they were going to see.

"Mortal Kombat, of course," replied the spokesman, while the Boy No.2 that Bethel now calls 'the silent one,' simply nodded in agreement. Bethel responded to this answer with a simple, "Oh..." while he glanced at the movie theatre marquee and at the clock in his car. He quickly determined that Mortal Kombat was in its final showing for the evening and that it was about an hour into playing by this time.

While Bethel's reluctance to interact with the boys seemed to make the 'silent one' ever more nervous, the spokesman showed no nervousness at all. The spokesman continued to coax, "C'mon mister. Let us in. We can't get in your car until you do, you know." And with a more soothing voice, "Just let us in, and we'll be gone before you know it. We'll go to our mother's house."

At this point, Bethel locked eyes with the vacant-orb-eyed spokesman - while realizing in horror that his own hand had strayed to the door lock. Luckily the door was still locked, but Bethel's hand had started the process of unlocking the door before he caught hold of himself. He probably jerked back his hand upon this realization, alerting the strange pre-teen duo that he felt that all was not right in this situation. This action also forced Bethel to look away from the kids and stutter something non-binding and unclear.

He turned his attention back to look at the children and, for the first time, noticed their eyes...

...coal irises, no pupils, and as Bethel wrote, "Just two staring orbs reflecting the red and white light of the marquee."

Bethel's facial expression must have conveyed something to the duo and the silent one suddenly dawned a look of horror, while the spokesman's expression turned to blatant anger, "C'mon mister," he insisted, "We won't hurt you. You have to LET US IN. We don't have a gun..."

These words were terrifying to Brian Bethel, and he tried to gain his bearings, reaching a hand toward the car gearshift in order to make a speedy exit...

The spokesman said, with great urgency, "WE CAN'T COME IN UNLESS YOU TELL US IT'S OKAY. LET...US --- IN!"

Finally, Bethel's hand responded on the gearshift, knocked the car into reverse and Bethel's car ripped out of the parking lot, "I noticed the boys in my peripheral vision, and I stole a quick glance back. They were gone. The sidewalk by the theatre was deserted."

Bethel drove straight home, parked and ran inside, all in a complete panic.

Bethel still wonders, "What did I see?" and "What would have happened if I opened my car door?"

My Suspicions

I have my own suspicions about the Black Eyed Kids as being the product of more parental and societal fears.

After all...the accounts I've read so far - of which the "Brian Bethel Account" is the most prominent - contain tell-tale signs of 'urban legend-ness' and tidbits of fact, in the Brian Bethel account, he has plainly stated the level of fear he felt upon being approached by Black Eyed Kids in an Abilene parking lot.

C'mon Brian! Scared almost to the point of poopy-pants by a couple of kids - one very well-spoken young gent that most parents would be proud to say is their own. Most parents are ASKING THEIR KIDS to display the sort of politeness that frightened Brian Bethel to the point of panic...

No, I'm not making fun of Bethel above...well, not overly so. I'm just saying that it appears he was THAT SCARED!

Something is out of sorts here - but in my opinion, it is possible that it might not be the kids in question here...

There's a small chance that these Black Eyed Kids are manifest from the fears of society and from parental is possible that societal PERCEPTION is at work here and going awry.

Putting two and two together - that 1) accounts of BEKs reek of urban legend tale format and 2) almost all urban legends are based on societal fears, parental fears, and fear of the unknown...

(Are we afraid that more and more of our children are becoming child-criminals, distanced in familial relationships? This concern would be fitting in societies where parents are no longer raising most of the children...where daycares, schools and such are taking up the slack for parental absence.)

These BEK reports are just something I'll have to keep my eyes and ears open for, that's all.

Brian Bethel interview

An Account of An Encounter Provided By "Michael" - a theory forwarded about BEKs possibly being "Demons"

THIS ACCOUNT was posted in the comments section but I felt I should move it directly into a HUB module so that it is not overlooked. Offered by a reader/commenter named "Michael."

Please note: I have taken the liberty of adding spacing simply to make the text and account easier to read...

By Michael:

So I apologize first off if I am restating something that has already been said. With that being said I understand everyones different beleifs in what these "BEKs" are and let me tell you that they are far more sinister and intelligent than you can imagine.

I have been studying in the field of demonology for the past 5 years and have been through 24 years of supernatural hell, ranging from ghost apparitions to full on demonic oppression. These BEK's are without a doubt in my mind demonic. The way they speak with perfect diction and almost intellectual in their conversation being that most of these encounters have been with young children is quite odd for the language they use.

Having to be invited into a persons car or home and not being able to enter unless they receive verbal invitation. And of course the biggest telltale sign is the infamous "black souless eyes" acoumpanied [accompanied] by the feeling of dread and a dark evil presence. Your gut dose [does] not lie to you and even if you arent a beleiver in "evil" per say all the accounts still refer to the feeling of a "dark" presence when around these beings.

As far as the invitation goes it is also a telltale sign of a demon; demons being eons of years old and being as dark and powerful as they are still have to abide by cosmic law meaning that they cannot enter "your" property being your car or home or anywhere you have ownership unless you where to give them verbal consent(Now you know where the vampire myth stems from). The reason why they usually appear as children is to gain your trust. Obviously you will feel bad for a poor lost child and would love nothing more than to let them in on a cold dark night....that's exactly what they want. Or sometimes appearing as young teenagers or a person of your own age, someone that can gain your trust easily. Their not going to appear as a crazed dirty man weilding a knife, scaring people off would work against them.

The dark feeling you get when there near, your body can sense something that wants to do it harm and it reacts by sending you into a fight or flight mode. These beings are filled with so much hate and evil that it emotes off of them like a black aura, hitting you with waves of their emotions. The reason for the black eyes is obvious, being evil in nature and being void of any soul, their eyes are just showing you the emptiness that is inside. If you have ever heard the term "the eyes are the window to the soul" that would explain the empty black, these beings have no soul.

The reason behind their odd speech and diction is like I stated before, these beings have been around for thousands of years, they are not a child as they appear to be. They are unfortunatley smarter than humans and they speak as well educated people because frankly they have had time to practice. I also would bet that if anyone where to begin speaking in another language that these BEK's would respond in that language, even if switched up to multiple dialects I bet you they would follow with even better pronounciation. Unless they catch onto what your pulling and play it off seeing that your testing them.

The reason for the fowl smell from their breath or just the smell of them as many have stated is also demonic in nature, the putrid smell of garbage or decay in many cases sulfur. These are the scents of a demon, just think of the most revolting smell you can think of...thats what you will smell when near them.

Also I haven't read this alot in the testimonies but they usually are preseaded with 3 knocks on either the door or the window, obviously many have just run into these beings but if that dose happen I urge not to answer their knocking because opening that door or window is all the invitation they need.

Now to say that these things are pure demons in their corporial form or possibly possesed humans that we truthfully wont know. But I lead more to the first only because its practically unheard of for an innocent 5 year old could come under possesion but then again we cant prove that for sure. I apologize for the misspelling and if what I wrote is comfusing but Im typing this at work and trying to do both.

Your Views on BEKs

Marine in NC Spooked by Black Eyed Kids

A marine living on the 3rd floor of barracks located near River Road at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina encountered two BEKs in November 2009. The marine's account can be found by going to the paranormal section at the About .com website.

Apparently, the marine was staying home on a weekend late in the year of 2009 while most of his peers were out. A knock at his door interrupted his movie watching late at night. The marine went to the door, expecting to find that his roommate had forgotten his keys, but instead of opening the door to let his room mate in, he stood face to face with two kids: "[...] these kids freaked the hell out of me."

At first, the marine couldn't place the reason why these two kids made his senses react with trepidation, but instincts are something that marines are told to pay attention to, so the man didn't let his logic overcome his gut feelings in this instance. Something from within told the man to shut the door and lock it but he fought these feelings long enough to get a good look at the kids, notice they had pitch black eyes, and he spoke briefly with them.

The kids told him they wanted to come inside and read and said they were cold. It seemed odd to the marine that the kids didn't mention parents or things that a pair of lost children might be concerned about.

Unnerved, the marine glanced down the hallway to see if anyone else was around but he found the hallway empty. When he turned attention back to the kids, they had come a step closer to him and the doorway, further freaking him out. He describes feeling as if he were being hunted - as if he were the prey for these predator kids. This last complex gut reaction caused the marine to immediately close and lock the door.

For about 5 more minutes, the marine reports he heard a constant, soft knocking at the door. After refusing to respond to the knocking, he then heard a rattle at a window - which he also ignored. Things seemed to settle down after that and the marine got through the night without further incident.

In the morning, the marine found and approached the officer who was on duty during the nighttime hours and asked him some questions. The officer had noticed nothing out of the ordinary while on shift and passed the marine's account off as the marine having taken too much to drink. In the marine's account, however, he makes sure to state that he wasn't drinking at all during the night in question.

I think some important questions to ask are:

  • Would parents allow kids to just wander around an infantry army barracks?
  • Why didn't the officer on duty notice the kids?

The marine who provided this account to About .com is known only as Reaper 3-1, and obviously prefers to remain anonymous.

Black Eyed People Like To Shop At Wal-Mart?

Webb City, Missouri

An anonymous writer: was at a Webb City Wal-Mart ready to pay for some items and got an uneasy feeling while in the teller's line-up. The person also smelled a strange odor and turned to look around. Right behind, there was a man, dressed in black who was very tall. When our author/Wal-Mart shopper looked at the eyes of the tall man who was dressed in black, the eyes were completely black. Our shopper got the sense that the black eyed man was evil and hair stood up on the shopper's neck: "I got the sense that he was evil, maybe the Devil himself."

This is pretty much all there is to this particular BEK experience. This is a three (short) paragraph account I found at About .com. The person who offered this story to About .com isn't named.

At a Wal-Mart in Kansas:

A person shopping at a Wal-Mart in Kansas got separated from daughter and mother, ending up in the perfume aisles. The shopper got a strange gut feeling first, then began to look around. The shopper saw a man walk past the aisle who had striking features (in a striped shirt, blonde, tall, good looking), who appeared clean-cut but who had a strange gait. Right after he passed the aisle, he stopped and walked back to it and turned his head to look at the shopper who describes these actions as robotic and odd.

The shopper felt the man with the strange manner of walking was looking right through, scanning, surveying and taking in knowledge of our shopper, and his eyes were totally black and unnatural. The shopper felt great fear and had the feeling of being in danger. The strange man turned his head again and walked away, still in the stilted, jerking manner.

The shopper says it is the eyes that will never be forgotten out of the whole of this experience and is convinced that the man was not even human. The shopper found daughter and mother and left the store shortly after this encounter and calls this incident, "[...] one of the most unnerving experiences of my life."

(one more wal-mart account to be typed out soon. just checking to see if the one I found online matches up with someone who emailed me with a similar account but who wanted to remain anonymous)

Veritas Radio

Veritas Radio online is an interesting site radio show that deals with paranormal and out of the ordinary topics. In August 2012, Author and paranormal researcher, David Weatherly, was on the show to answer questions about BEK's and talk about his newest book, "The Black Eyed Children."

The interview starts around the four and a half minute mark on the video, part 1.

I could have just posted the vid(s) without offering any text but I just wanted to comment on how I enjoy the Veritas Radio intro... not quite "Twilight Zone" far out and a bit like some of the Matrix soundtrack... I just wanted to say it should put you in the mood to listen to off-beat topics.

BEKs and Vampires

BEKs seem to share some characteristics of the undead and/or of vampires.

BEKs often seen at dusk or night time - do they have an aversion to sunlight as vampires apparently do?

BEKs ask for for something. Vampires often do as some tales. There are so many types and versions of vampire tales that it is hard to make straight off comparisons. With vampires, they're alternately silent and deadly with instant attacks or very interactive with potential victims, conversing, possibly sizing a person up, making judgments on what kind of person the potential victim is (perhaps some are spared the attack, depending on the way they conduct themselves).

BEKs ask to be let in. One of the most often mentioned points of vampire lore is that a vampire cannot enter a home where it has not been invited to enter.

BEKs "Let me/us in."

Weatherly on PZTV Show: Do You Believe Interview PT1

BEKs and Demons

Most of what passes for reasons why BEKs might be demons involves emotions, particularly fear. People who have encountered BEKs readily assert to feeling an overwhelming fear over the encounter and also say they can feel a palpable presence of the fear, doom, evil, darkness, etc.

It is possible that all of the above feelings are purely psychological in nature, even when people say they feel a physical presence of doom... "Doom" is a tough physical presence to pin down - however, it could be that the presence of BEKs affects the magnetic, lighwave, or other unseen environments enough that people sensitive to such things can feel a difference.

Many who have reported instances of demonic possession say that the possessed person's appearance changes and in a large number of cases, the face and eyes appear to change dramatically with the eyes darkening or exhibiting a reddish hue.

Weatherly on PZTV Show: Do You Believe Interview PT2

BEKs and Djinn

Some say BEKs are a type of Djinn.

If I knew what the heck I was talking about concerning Djinn, I would comment A LOT about this comparison but Djinn are entities I am quite unfamiliar with. They're one of the very few paranormal/lore types I have never looked much into... (*Hint: If anyone can help me here, I would much appreciate it!).

The possible link between BEKs and Djinn, however, is fairly weak as far as I can tell, with this comparison given very little attention on message boards, blogs, article sites, etc., where BEKs are beign discussed. Partly, those who believe in the existence of Djinn/Genies claim that when Djinn come around, they are very active, considered primarily negative/evil, are often very aggressive. We can note that BEKs are ASSERTIVE in many accounts, occasionally turning to slight verbal aggression but more like verbal insistence or strong assertion.

Again, I honestly have to admit to not knowing much about Djinn. I have insisted on mention of this entity in the hopes that someone will see my failings here and be prompted to provide some information.

BEKs and Tulpas

Similarities or perhaps a cause of the appearance and disappearances of BEK closely resemble accounts involving what people perceive to be tulpa incidents.

A tulpa is a thought form that contains so much energy that it can become solid matter for a time. There are various intensities of tulpa but this is a type of entity that is considered a fairly new topic of study in North America (older and embedded in many ancient belief systems in older lands).

The comparison between tulpa and BEKs is one of the ones I lean toward most. If tulpas are primarily derived from energy vibrations into matter, then the very high level of fear present in most BEK accounts might just be the focus of the tulpa.

It is said that in many BEK encounter cases, if a person shuts the BEK out and then second-guesses what just happened, then looks for the child/children again, usually the person is unable to see them or discover where they went to so quickly. For example, a person may shut and lock the door after seeing a BEK just on the outside step by the door. After a few seconds and calming down, the person may open the door to double check that they actually saw a BEK on the step but then the door is opened again, there is nothing, no person standing there at all - and with a quick eye sweep of the yard, there is no sign of retreating BEK - which should be able to be seen since the door was just closed a few seconds before.

Perhaps, if the BEK is a tulpa, the cut off of contact dispels the tulpa energy and it vanishes? Or it might be possible that, if tulpas feed off fear and BEKs are a type of tulpa, by the time someone double-checks, they've recovered from the washing over of fear and the tulpa/BEK is no longer around. This could be an explanation for BEKs seeming to vanish. If the tulpa has fed, it leaves. If the fear is gone, so is the tulpa.

The real truth of black eyed kids. BLACK EYED KIDS-THE REAL TRUTH on youtube

My name is Paul Hughes and this is where the story of BEKs that knock on your door then insist on coming inside came from. On 11-22-97 David Weatherly and Brain Bethel where at a seminar near 6th street in down town Austin. Afterwards they went to a bar for some drinks. Later that night I met David for the first and only time at the Williamson county jail. We had both been arrested that night. I introduced myself as Paul and he said his name was David Weatherly, but I knew that he was arrested under the name Eric Kelly. "David" told me he was a syfy writer and he figured the best use of his time in jail would be to ask people if they had any creepy stories. So I came up with the black eyed kids knocking on peoples doors insisting on coming inside, right there off the top of my head. Notice I do not claim all black eyed people stories ever told. Just the ones where the kids knock and insist on being let in. He said wow that is a good story did that really happen to you. I said no. He said well I'm going to blog about this under a couple of different allies with slightly different stories to build up a sightings report. Then I'm going to blog about it under my name David Weatherly and use your story. Then "David" told me I'm going to leave your name the same but change where we met and change your occupation (hence Paul the prison guard) and if I ever wanted to contact him again. Just tell him where I told him the story and he would believe me because he had never been arrested before. So he did exactly what he said he would do. He used my story word for word. Then one day I hear about BEKs and decide to contact "David" to ask for an autographed book. He decided to cuss me out in his email response and tell me I must be sick in the head if I think I know him. So I decided to tell people the truth about BEKs and I made that youtube video. Yes I do have proof that me and Eric Kelly where in jail on the same night. Big surprise Eric Kelly AKA David Weatherly owns Leprechaun Press which is the company that publishes all of David's books. There will never be Video proof of a BEKs knocking on someone's door because they are not real. Everything I have said here is the truth. BEKs are not real for anyone who really wanted to know the truth. I do really want to know the truth about foo fighters because I've seen one. It hovered right above me for about two seconds with no sound. Than shot off so fast it left a long red trail of light in the sky. I reported it to MUFON. There is video and pictures to prove what I saw was real going back to WWII. But anyways thank you for reading this and I promise it is all true.

Hello curious1, you make some good points about light-sensitivity. I have light sensitivity (to the point where I have special glasses to protect my eyes - photo-grey), and thankfully, nobody has ever accused me of being a BEK :)

I think your points may account for some BEKs, however, for what you're saying a lot of things need to be happening together e.g. fear of pushy kids, the light sensitivity effects on a person's eyes, etc... it's really up in the air, isn't it?

curious1 on May 24, 2014:

I was wondering if anyone has considered the possibility of some of the people having these encounters might possibly be light sensitive. Let me explain before this gets brushed away. For example if I am inside my house at night & my husband is outside or vice versa I can look out of my window or my storm door & his eyes look solid black & I know they are not. Another example if I sit in a semi dark or fully dark room for more than a few minutes my pupils dilate to the point my eyes can look black. As for the children being persistent about being let in there are some pretty pushy kids these days. I'm not saying these children don't exist & I'm not saying they do, I was just curious if light sensitivity has been considered for the black eyes.

Oh and on a side note, I was a BEK by default for three months in 1982, when I rode my bike into a telephone pole while rocking out with my boom box and riding my 10 speed without hands ( or looking where I was going) Those poles are made out of reinforced steel and concrete. I came home with two swollen black step dad thought that was the funniest damn thing he ever heard. He made me go to school that September without sunglasses. Although I never tried to get into anyones car, I maybe a living example of being a BEK by default. Perhaps there are others like me, if so I will form a support group. Hello Tsurugi. Thanks for reading and commenting. Thanks for your questions, too - it's always good to think from a different angle... Yes, I've heard many explanations on how BEKs might be alien hybrids of some sort. It's a pretty common kind of thinking on these unexplained beings. Some people are thinking that the BEKs are the children of abductees and are returning to try and find their parents.

Great hub, I've been interested in this particular kind of High Strangeness incident for a while now, and I agree with your comment that the BEK may actually be a modern incarnation of a much older phenomenon.

I find it strange that people seem to assume that paranormal phenomena are unchanging throughout the ages. IF these things really are taking place, then one of the possible explanations is that there is some kind of intelligence involved, which would imply that the phenomena may change over time. So Revenants might become Changelings which might eventually shift to Vampires which eventually become BEK(for example).

MB, you appear to have poked into the concept that the BEK are associated with Demonic entities, and with Vampiric legend, as well as the Djinni. Have you looked at the "Hybrid" idea? It requires a fairly deep dive into UFO and Abduction lore, but I think it may provide another interesting angle to consider, at the very least.

Hello D - thanks for stopping by and commenting. Your friend might be simply seeing an eccentric teen with special contact lenses. I haven't heard of people running into BEKs on a regular basis at schools, work, etc. I could be in the wrong here, of course, but ask your friend to try and find out if the girl she's talking about is just a sort of social outsider with special contact lenses. If this is so, no need for your friend to be overly anxious about paranormal things, right? If this is not so, then your friend can start looking into other explanations.

Funny, you make her sound like a lost soul at first, and not some sort of trickster. And then suggest she was testing you. But be careful, as they can suddenly turn from nice to naughty, like in the black eyed waitress story. In that tale her eyes started out as normal.

Since one of the more common tricks they pull is reading your mind, I was gonna ask for a simple mind trick.

One trick pulled on me involved me daydreaming one day of a hot girl that I used to share a high school class with almost 20 years ago. Later that evening I ran into a young girl who looked exactly like her dressed in very same outfit. She even winked at me as if to acknowledge she knew what I was thinking.

I understand his words are harsh, like being poked in the chest. But you never felt someone look at you and scream "what's wrong with you freak!" Or the accusations of being a devil. Or the need to think people are less then you and belittle them in the attempt to understand why people act the way they do.

If you do ever meet one you will understand. And maybe then you might be capable of learning who we are. Then again you may have already. We can choose if you know or not ya know.

Hi coalburner - thanks for sharing your BEK story. What you've described is very similar to other BEK accounts. Since you have talked within your community and believe there are 2 other sightings in the same area, it might be a good idea to contact Jason Offutt who is doing on-going research into the BEK phenomenon. Also, David Weatherly would likely be interested in knowing of BEK sightings in your area. You can find both easily with an online search. David's blog is called TwoCrowsParanormal and Jason manages a blog, From The Shadows.

mythbuster (author) from Utopia, Oz, You Decide on February 20, 2013:

Hi laura, you make a mention of demons that might be important here. A lot of people are saying the BEKs aren't real because they're just suddenly now being reported in the last decade or so...

As I study more about the BEK phenomenon and as others diligently do, as well, it's looking like BEK sightings may not be as new as we think. BEK might just be a more modern term for what people, a few decades and hundreds of years ago were calling "demons." The similarities are really close - especially those who encounter these beings saying they felt dread, felt "evil" or "malice" coming off the BEKs. That is similar to what people say about demons.

mythbuster (author) from Utopia, Oz, You Decide on February 20, 2013:

Thanks for reading and commenting, Charlotte. I can understand your skepticism here. Skepticism is good surrounding unexplained things. I agree, as well, that many children can speak well (I think most do and that teens are a visible minority that are often discriminated against - I think that's unfair), however, few teens I know are actually assertive with adults who are strangers in the way BEKs are reported to be. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong here but I think we need to keep searching for answers. If all these stories are internet hoaxes, then continuing to question and talk about the encounters will expose the hoaxes. If there is more going on with these events, questions, discussion and searching will turn up some information... one would hope?

Back in the 1980's I saw a UFO, I never believed in them, but I stopped by a farmhouse when it was approaching in the dark with lights in a huge v shape, and I knocked on the peoples' door and begged them to come out and watch it with me. They thought it might be a blimp, but it was v shaped. I was really scared and when I got home I called the police and the dispatcher said I was the 75th caller reporting a UFO. It was in the newpaper the next day, and there even was a support group at the local university for people who saw it. Soon afterwards a big black older model car pulled up our driveway, a dead end, and a tall guy with black hair and clothes asked me strange questions. I was scared of him, to this day all I can recall him asking is about the girl who used to live here. I didn't know about a girl, because we had moved our trailer onto the lot which had been empty for who knows how long. What really happened? If I ever get approached by black eyed kids I will run screaming. If they are immature men in black, keep them the heck away from me. I believe in the Bible and Jesus warned us of demons, and if these things are demon aliens, we aren't supposed to mess with them and the Bible tells to call on the authority of Jesus's name to send demons away from us. I have enough problems with people, let alone evil entities. God help us!

Charlotte on February 14, 2013:

Hi, I just thought I should share my opinion.

Although these may be true some are definitely fake if not all. If you read these stories they are just the same as any other story you read out there. But if there are any of these black eyed people, then surely either I or someone I know would've come across them by now, I know a lot of people and I am very observant.

The stories always say how the children speak so well and not in a normal manner that you would expect from a teenager, but I am 15 and I can speak properly and I would to people who I don't know, especially adults.

Also these stories sound like something you would find on creepy pasta, these stories are easy to make up, I could make one up if I wanted.

If these children are real then fair enough but I haven't seen enough evidence and have not experienced an encounter yet so I do not believe, if I do ever have an encounter I shall post it here for you.

coalburner on December 07, 2012:

My sister in-law has had a very similar experience that left her in a hysterical state. A few days ago she was preparing dinner at dusk, while trying to pay attention to her two daughters playing on the backporch. She was startled by a series of knocks on the stormdoor which came in threes. Both girls,(Who are younger than eight years) came into the kithchen and told her two boys were on the deck .My sister in-law was a bit alarmed because a large fence seperates the backyard and porch from public access. She went to the door and saw two boys ,one a bit older than the other.Boy #1 was beyween 14-18, boy #2, 10-14. They were smiling in an odd and strained way, and immediately the older one said he "New it was eating time, let us in we're hungry." My sister in-law slammed the door shut, and said she was was completely terrified, because she saw that both of these "kids" had pure coal blackeyes. My nieces were crying and scared out of their wits as well. Both boys were dressed in zip up nylon sweat jackets. The strange thing she said was that they looked well off, no dirt, and as she said ,perfect toothpaste add teeth with styled hair. She left the house and went to stay with her mother until my brother and I checked the place out(They live on about 4 acres of woods) we found no trace of these indiduals other than a brush shelter that could have been made by transients or other kids fooling around in the area. Talking to one of their neighbors about this incident has given us two verified sightings of these strange boys. Their neighbor saw both of them vault over the four foot fence that seperates the properties with ease. This is disturbing because the way the elderly lady descibed it , it was as if they were superhuman and jumped the fence with little effort. I believe these things are not of any benevolent nature, they mean to do harm in the worst fashion, as to what they are, perhaps they are the Sidhe of old Irish legend, not all of the denizens of the mounds were "The good people".I know my brothers wife felt they wanted to do her and the girls harm. Whatever their intent they must be met with caution and aggressive intent. I know I won't be hesitant to act if confronted by these entities!

Hello Christinax, thank you for stopping by, reading and posting! Where you say, "Kids asking normal things in the grand scheme of things isn't that scary." isn't scary at all - you're right... however, the kids are asking things that are sometimes out of context or they are asking things with mannerisms that are creepy and far out... You'll obviously read the post above... so you'll know about Weatherly who has just released a new book on Black Eyed Children. In the interviews I just listened to yesterday, much attention in the book is placed on the mannerisms of the children with black eyes and their slightly off-key speaking styles. In one account, new to me and in the new book but that Weatherly goes over in several interviews, a cop or military guy ends up with a BEK outside his door who asks, "Is it food time?" then more insistently, "It is food time! Let me in - because it is FOOD TIME." In which century have people ever asked this? As well, the insistence on being let in and the assertiveness of the children in every case is VERY OFF KEY for children in every part of the world. These children do not understand our social constructions of interplay between adults and children.

mythbuster (author) from Utopia, Oz, You Decide on September 21, 2012:

Sarah, thanks for visiting again. I am still without Weatherly's book but spent a lot of time yesterday listening to audios and videos of Weatherly's most recent interviews about the book and on the topic of Black Eyed Children. I started off not liking the guy right away until I listened to him for a while. I think this was because his first words on the topic seemed DISMISSIVE and MINIMIZING (like he was saying, "ohyeah, this phenomenon is just urban legend spreading all over.") However, I quickly changed my mind as I continued to listen and once he got into re-telling some accounts of BEK/BEC (He always uses BEC Black Eyed Children) encounters. I think, in hindsight now, his first words were echos of what most people think BEFORE they delve into the topic of BEKs and realize there are a whole LOT of people who have encountered BEKs and not just a few experiences immediately following Bethel's posting of his experience years ago (as if people are posting/telling of copy-cat tales). The Bethel story seems to have been a catalyst for people to come forward and tell of their experiences, even from years before Bethel posted.

Christinax on September 21, 2012:

I had never heard of BEKs before yesterday.

It's all very interesting!

As mentioned there are no accounts of UK sightings or experiences. A couple of points really, wether peoples accounts are true or fiction I can't decide.

What strikes me, and I'm not sure if this is intentional to add to the intrigue, is that non of the accounts are particularly scary. Negating the eyes of course. I'm not saying any of this to belittle peoples experiences it's more of a reason to believe people!

Kids asking quite normal things in the grand scheme of things isn't that scary. People are commenting that other people are reporting cases and writing about there experiences to copycat. If that's the case why bother writing such 'boring' encounters essentially.

Reading the initial case of the Journalists report may have prompted people to speak about their experience, all be it fleeting and to them probably not worth mentioning.

I've had one paranormal experience it is probably quite boring and I've posted it before on sites a few years back and I was berated and told it was all in my imagination. It was strange enough for me to remember clearly, as it happened when I did something mundane and routine all the time. Because I was a child people immediately said it was my imagination!

I'm really impressed to see how quickly the site is updated. Keep up the good work! By the way, I'm not religious at all, and I'm not niave I love Science and nature and I have an open mind!

Chuck on September 14, 2012:

So, the girl with real black eyes is a child in the process or dying or being killed by some disaster? It is not her fault that her eyes are black, this is not because of any evil in her and I find it in bad taste to use this poor child as an example. She as someone who suffered and died deserves more respect.

such investigation must be made on negative basis, if one is interested in the truth or in the grade of danger in similar encounter, and if an undiscovered being is dangerous an investigation should find why, wich gun or weapon evens the question (garlic or chris-cross, perhaps?) or wich bribe offer a smaller loss, and how can exist a predator that warns his prey about his nature.

A positive investigation is bound to fall into circular logic, because whatever confutes the accounts will fall into the "unknown ways of an unknown being"

For this reason first thing to do is assure that at least a witnesses is reliable, if there isn´t any nailing evidence and assuming they are real, either we are talking about a non significant impact or they are so smart than "we" can give up right here, right now, and maybe the second one causes the first.

Plus, there wouldn´t be any reason to exclude they will read or are reading our conversation.

But in the end i´m pretty sure we are talking about non existent things.

puffolotti, thanks for the explanations and the vid link (I'll leave it posted). Although I'm enjoying the discussion here, I have to say that I think your points are heading in the way of generalizing so that your arguments are getting out of context. Certainly, the vid you've posted and the attractive young lady in the vid aren't in any way related to BEKs. Without the other details present (besides the black orbs for eyes... like the locations people are approached in, the similar requests to "let us in," or "take us home" etc), I feel you are taking very ordinary, out of context issues and details and using these to say "BEKs aren't real." As well, most of your attempted explanations of what these BEK situations might be if they're not BEKs - tend to place negative fault on the person experiencing the issue. What about "fear cage environments," or the possibility that people really ARE experiencing something unexplained that requires investigation?

puffolotti on August 28, 2012:

found something better: a video of a perfectly normal person that in some cels appears to be B.E. due to sharp relative light angle (and heavy make-up)

maybe you should erase the link below before publishing, in order to prevent this unaware woman with beautiful, WIDE eyes to become target of some witch-hunt, anyway you can see the thing happening first time at 1:24

So, how everybody can see the eyes of any person may appear completely black when right lightning conditions are met.

In normal situations, where we aren´t on guard the brain corrects the issue, but when somebody is stressed, he will correct his vision the other way, and remembering eyes was black all the time, or think there has been or a glitch in the disguise or the kid realited the mistake and turned normal.

it appears everyone is a black eyed person, in the right light conditions.

puffolotti on August 28, 2012:

maybe lifting self by pulling the shoestring would be easy, but if you get the other half of the problem on the desk, it would looks like demons and rest of the club are very afraid of rational people.

Nobody is aware of an event, if you check this imput, every person reports or zero or many.

In investigations of accounts starting with: "i was skeptic till that time", a detective never fails to prove this statement false.

This is enough to ask ourselves how reliable are those witnesses.

what is so scary in me.[urban hermit] that turns such fearsome fiends away from me?

From this point is still very important to understand what causes this legend to exist, because there may be the key to stick many bully or generally abusive people to theyr own responsabilities.

how to put this in simple words...

in my opinion, when people likes to believe there are sentient forces beyond any control, this is because they don´t like to admit that the misfortune (theyr own) often comes from wrong choices (theyr own) where there was a clear vision of the outcome.

Sooooo let say one ruins his own family because when he starts playing dices he gains the illusion he must win because he has lost everywhere else... blaming belzebub it will be much more easy than admit he´s ill disciplined.

That´s in my opinion the true evil among humans, keeping inventing lame excuses to glorify the lack of temperance.

and with this i´ll put to attention a tiny detail about number and statistics.

Rakshasa, beks, blautsaugers, revenants* are all pathetic wimps, compared to any "Hitler" or "Stalin"... Those are in my opinion worth some attentions, because they stroke as they pleases and nobody talks about "overwhelming sense of fear and unearthliness" when mentioning them. Actually they were applauded, where they conjured theyr evil deeds.

so we can conclude that the overwhelming sense of fear and unearthliness trick us a lot, expecially by not coming when it should.

Welcome back again puffolotti - I visited the youtube channel under the user name puffolotti. Nice vids! I will return there and watch more - you have a LOT of videos up. I appreciate your opinions as expressed here. I will think on what you've said. I, too, think some of our paranormal experiences originate from ourselves - some of the things we see are there in front of us because we sort of conjured them up, for whatever reasons - but this doesn't make "the experience" without merits or doesn't make a frightening experience worth nothing. I think the accounts of strange sightings of things still needs to be "unpacked," discussed, examined.

puffolotti on August 28, 2012:

It looks like urban legends must adapt to survive, jump out of theyr shelter when it´s destroyed by rational explanation.

In a poetic sense they do exist inside our minds, and with the poor jaguar reduced to a fluffy, fat, sleepy tomcat by the science that assures us he´s nothing more than a cat... demons can´t find a physical body worth representing them, and so they need to not have an embodiement.

and we come to this answer: what is a demon? what is an angel?

let say they are respectively the part of our mind that attract us to something we like but we know will harm us in the long time or those who keep up toward things we don´t like but we know will help us in the long time.

So the fat jaguar, the old wolf, the shy bear, the sly cobra are innocent...

the "demons" are a pathetic excuse in order to say "it wasn´t me the one who took such sorry decision, that wasn´t in my control."

And finally, on such premises, i can answer to your last question.

those BEKs are a very clever invention, because many questions are left open, because the fear of the known is uncool.

I mean, what´s the difference between being dismembered by a jaguar, killed in a car accident or getting depressed enough to suicide?

well, whatever you put in a new imaginary monster won´t connect in a world where, at least the latter 2 are a common cause of premature death.

Seriously, an expert in stats should be relieved to meet the beks, because wrong correlations speaks loud and clear: it´s the warranty that time you use the car you won´t be killed in an accident.

A wise person should be worried of those very natural dangers every time sticks the key in the car...

mythbuster (author) from Utopia, Oz, You Decide on August 27, 2012:

Hi again, puffolotti. I wonder why you'd think BEKs might be rakshasa/rakshasi. In the legendary accounts I know of, these beings are usually terrifying in appearance, not hiding the fact that they're not like humans.

puffolotti on August 27, 2012:

strange question, in this same page there is the picture of the poor Omarya Sanchez.

Anyway i´m well aware of the similarity of this legend with a curious form of rakshasa (they supposely have got the eyes of a plain color, that may change according to theyr state of mind.) wich are resurrected dead kids that have got great knowledge but yet they retain the previous identity.

Basically, according to the legend, they ask help to find out theyr family.

this would happen because theyr flesh is supposed to be made from the fresh corpse of an evil person.

I don´t believe in such things, but if we assume that´s the origin of the B.E.K. this would answer to the question: why don´t they try to hide such an inhuman feature?

the fact that they think they are a living kid may make them think they have got normal eyes, till they watch a mirror or somebody inform them.

in such scenario it would be possible that they learn how to appear normal.

I hope is clear i´m talking about things i think don´t exist.

I´m well documented because a my mugen project is based on the story of a rakshasa of such type, you can find the material in my youtube channel.

mythbuster (author) from Utopia, Oz, You Decide on August 27, 2012:

Hello puffolotti. Thanks for reading and commenting. You make some good points. It is possible that misinterpretation of how the eyes work in darkened conditions causes fears for people in many of these cases where people believe they have been approached or followed by a BEK. Thanks for your input.

puffolotti on August 27, 2012:

as pizzaboy my theory is that under certain condition of light (or better to say: lack of light) the eyes of anybody would appear completely black even if the colors of the clothes appears evident, i guess that´s because cornea is slightly reflexive.

I won´t hold a lesson about false perception of colors in uneasy light conditions, but i think people nowadays doesn´t understand the feeling of being in a situation where an unknown person can see you much better than how you can see her, and add horryfing details to the memory of the event in order to deny to self that has been scared in a situation that triggers forgotten instincts that had good reasons to be 10´000 years ago.

about being polite... of course a kid asking for help to a stranger will be polite even if normally is the most arrogant.

Kevin99, please let me know where you've gotten your information. I'm interested in checking out your last point about sightings/Christians.

You make a good point about fear, people watching horror movies and getting overly frightened, however, I'm not sure this theory explains Black Eyed Kid sightings... ie: Brian Bethel who seems to be the first to report a BEK incident wasn't a scared kid hallucinating after watching The Grudge, The Ring, or a similar movie.

mythbuster (author) from Utopia, Oz, You Decide on June 06, 2012:

Kevin99 on June 04, 2012:

Although I have never encountered black eyed kids, i do wonder if it is possibly the trauma from watching a horror movie such as the little boy from the grudge. Although his eyes are not completely black the whites of his eyes appear a dark red, so almost completely black. I had heard that many people have become scared of movies such as "the grudge" and "the ring" to the point where some people may hallucinate. Also what i've noticed, (not sure if it's a complete fact), but most victims for these sightings are Christian, or strong supporters of Christianity. Things such as possession, poltergists are targeted towards Christians. Let me know of what you think.

I have my own theory. But its kinda hard to explain. Ive been researching bek's for a while now. Im 16 now and ive been having the same nightmare for the past seven years almost every night. I haven't heard of bek's since about 2 years ago but in my nightmare they're there. But theres a lot of them and not just a couple. I find it weird that ive dreamt about them for five years BEFORE i even knew they exsisted or were made up or watever. But im writing a book about my nightmare. I cant really explain my theory but ill explain it in my book. Im a talented reader and will be writing it from their point of view to show my theory. Ill comment on here again to tell yall wen u can view it to tell me wat u think. By the way, my names emma. Oh and another thing that i find weird which may or may not have anything to do wit bek's is that...well...ive always had these things. Ever since i was about 4 or 5 (which is the youngest i can remember anything) ive seen things. Weird things and it might sound really crazy but i see dead people and usually how they die too. Itss usually wen im awake and focusing on something like zoning out. Its like a faded memory playing out in front of me. Also, wen i dream and dont have the nightmare about the bek's, dreams tend to come true. To the exact movement and sound. I usually forget about them but wen they happen i get migranes or siezures. My doctor says he has no idea wat causes my migranes or siezures so ive come to believe that its not really something since or medicine can explain. Just like the bek's. Well im rambling. I just wanted to share this info and ill post my book wen i finish it. Maybe in a month or two. But it'll only be the rough draft. Well bye bue now. :)

Padawan on March 16, 2012:

My encounters with BEKs began in the summer of '01. I was 21 at the time and awoke one early morning very drowsy. I walked to the dresser mirror and was horrified by my own reflection. My skin was transluscent showing my veins with almost a glow, and my eyes were completely black. The pure dread was indescribable, and I sat in horror for several minutes.

There was a feeling like I had been blind for my entire life and in a moment had the ability to see. It was overwhelming. When I gathered the courage to look at myself again, I had returned to normal.

About a week later I awoke late in the night and was drawn by this new feeling to walk into my backyard. Waiting for me was a 20ish, thin, pale blonde(yellowish white hair) woman. She faced away from me until I was standing beside her. When I looked into her eyes they were entirely black. She said "I've missed you," but her eyes also seemed to have a commanding welcoming force over me. I took her hand and we began to run. I know that we moved impossibly fast. I am unsure how much time I spent with her, but she conveyed sorrow while telling me that I wouldn't remember that time.

I have only shard this story in confidence with one person before. For the next three years I found myself confronted with paranormal investigators, self proclaimed psychics, demonologists, and self proclaimed demons. I was like a lightning rod for the paranormal. With this attention seemed to follow increasing intense negativity in normal and abnormal ways. I was being followed and watched regularly by a growing number of shady characters.

In 2004 I moved very abruptly 1000+ miles south. I was in a rural, almost remote area. Things were calm for nearly a year until massive packs of coyotes started making my house a nightly visit. As they encroached it was as if my new sense could feel them. They would howl in a unison that sounded like a scream, and wouldn't stop unless I went outside. When I would go outside I could see and feel their glowing eyes trained on me, some would pace, others would be still. The coyotes would do this at least 5 times a month for the next 8-9 months. One night I heard nothing but felt like they were right outside my door. I walked out and saw a human figure standing about 20 feet away pacing much like the coyotes. The figure was very tall and thin, wore a kindof grey jacket, pants, and hat. It was like a 3D shadow. I noticed as it stopped pacing and stood still that it had no legs below the knees, or they were somehow transparent. I couldn't see the face. The figure invoked a great fear, but I approached it. It began to run without moving its legs, and it moved with an unnatural speed away from me as it vanished into some dark woods.

Once again I moved far away. I am in a much more urban center, and have attracted little attention like before. I have just discovered that BEKs are a thing outside my experience. Part of my fears the phenomena, and regrets posting here, as I feel it could reinvoke the negativity storm. Part of me yearns to see the one that took me for a "run" over ten years ago. I am reluctant to give locations in comments, but have seen some familiar ones posted above. I am seeking information just like much of you.

Annon on February 11, 2012:

Hei. I was reading up on the black eyed kids and I stumbled over a blog which has two posts, which are not about them, but mention black eyed children.

This blog is rather odd, makes you shiver and wonder, if you have the time to read it all.

Anyway, the first reference to the black eyed children is in a post named “old town” – which is about the town of “Sighisoara”, where Dracula was born. (Vlad the Impaler). Apparently there’s strong evidence in that part of the world, in old manuscripts, of a tale which spans over 2000 years, a tale that relates of how the town was built. It all comes down to the fact that apparently a black eyed child ordered the town to be built in that exact spot.

You really have to read the whole post to understand, otherwise you will think it’s just weird talk.

The other post which relate the appearance of two black eyed children, aged around 16, is called “no good deed goes unpunished” – and talks about how two black eyed children kissed a 1 year old boy and apparently healed him from leukemia. They also put a necklace around his neck.

Again, you have to read the whole post, or the whole blog, to understand. The blog is not about black eyed kids, but I found references of them inside it and I feel that they are somehow players in a much bigger scheme that we could fathom.

Check it out.

Oh, this is the link to the first post

If you feel like reading the whole blog, make sure you read the “about me” or “who I am” page and the very first post. Won’t make any sense if you don’t.

I just thought to share this with you because I’m as interested in black eyed children as you are.

Hardly anyone has any well-rounded theories on BEKs but more people seem to think they are very dangerous than not and more people than not also seem to believe they are evil. I just keep looking for more information on BEKs. Will post if I find something more that helps with explanations.

lexi on February 04, 2012:

im 17, and i am very interested with all this paranormal stuff. i have never encountered anything, but i do enjoy reading about it. but one thing i find that doesn't make sense about the beks, is that i really dont believe they are harmful. i do get that people sense a feeling of evil when around them, but the more i read, the more i think that their purpose is for something other that to kill.

when first reading, i only found stories about a bek approaching the person when in their car or house, ect, and asking to be let in. and of course, they can not come in unless given permission. no one ever invited them in, so no one knew exactly what would happen to them if they did, but they were sure they would die.

well after reading about these, i became a believer. but after continueing my research, i found stories of people encountering beks out in the open, and now im not so sure what to believe.

if the beks only reason for existing was to kill, and thats why they always asked to come in, then why didn't they kill when people encountered them out in the open?

this just does not make sense to me.

i do believe that beks are out there, but i really dont think they are evil.

Onceuponatime35 on January 16, 2012:

they are trying to get over a traumatic situation that happen in there present life and can not and will not for eternity....such as a murder. the dreadful energies are spread out to the world thru their aura so they have a persona of dread surrounding them they are trying to be reborn while still being in their human bodies.

the only thing they need to be reborn is time..

mythbuster (author) from Utopia, Oz, You Decide on January 13, 2012:

You provide a very interesting argument about BEKs, Onceuponatime35. Why all the dread surrounding these beings - if they are merely lost souls trying to be reborn? What do you think they need in order to be reborn? Something that resonates with me at your mention of "souls" is that many people, in describing their experiences/encounters with BEKs say "Black orbs for eyes/soul-less eyes."

Thanks for commenting and for the persuasive argument. I hope you will return to say more.

mythbuster 16 months ago

"And how old are you now, Soldatenhandel? I mean, how long has it been since you had these black eyes when you were 15?"

I'm currently nineteen and enlisting within the Army's Special Forces soon.

"I find your theory about stress causing the eyes to both expand and blacken very interesting. Do you have a name for this theory or is there a place where I can examine some arguments related to this theory?"

Eh, it's not theory. Rather fact; stress and low-light environments cause the iris to dilate. Constant and high levels of stress or low-light can lead to very queer effects (such as entirely black eyes or (believe it or not) purple eyes-which can be seen in those who have grown accustomed to night-time conditions).

"What is the purpose of your postscript - the exercise for getting the eyes to go black? I mean, if you're obviously ridiculing other BEK theories ("There's nothing paranormal about black-eyed people and all these crackpot theories[...]") and have the answer about this phenomena and also say it is an awful thing - why give 'instructions' about it?"

Because by saying just that maybe some one of the armchair speculators that will likely read this will try to get black eyes themselves and so come to know the truth. I really hate to sound like a know-it-all... in fact, I make it a point to abstain from that in reality. But... sometimes people going off on wild tangents about faery circles, alien angels and the like can just get to one. Hypocritically enough I like to research these very things-- not out of any vested belief, but simply because fantasy is a welcome reprieve from the harsh finality of the real world.

On a side-note I used to watch "The O'Reilly Factor". Coming back to this page made me remember a particular episode that I had watched half-a-year ago: in this episode was a U.S. Navy S.E.A.L. His iris had expanded enough to render his eyes entirely black except for a very slight and hardly noticeable band of white sclera on the utmost periphery of either eyeball. While this means his eyes weren't wholly black, that is the closest media display of anything even approaching someone with eyes that are completely black that I've seen.

And, in parting, I really wish I could at least make an attempt to explain why people feel such dread around people who have NATURAL and WHOLLY black eyes... but that's just one of those things that I'm not articulate enough to put into words. It's just... something you have to feel and utilize the effects of to fully understand. Sorry to all those black-eyed kids out there who are tired of the negative publicity, hopefully in the future this phenomenon will be given some earnest thought and so seriously researched to clear up all this "black-eyed people are demons/aliens" offal.

I haven't read through all of this but a search of something from my past I was curious about brought me here.

When I was a teenager I would have lucid dreams involving an elderly couple with solid black eyes that would stare at me and laugh. The dreams were quite terrifying and I would wake up sweating.

The odd thing is the dreams would happen months apart. I would say there were a couple that were even longer than a year between.

After high school I enlisted in the Marine Corps. This is when I had the last of those dreams. In it I found myself riding as a passenger in an old car driving down a country road with no houses. It was overcast and clearly autumn as the trees had already changed. I heard the familiar laughing coming from the driver's seat. I turned my head to see that old man with those eyes looking at me and laughing. At first I was paralyzed with fear again. Then I clearly remember thinking in the dream to myself "Wait a second. I'm a U.S. marine." and decided I was going to attack the old man. I awoke instantly. I felt angry and sat up with my fists clenched looking around the room. Then I realized what had happened and that it was just another one of those dreams.

That was 15 years ago and I have never dreamed of those black eyed elderly people since.

Maybe that isn't helpful information concerning the topic as my experiences were only dream related and you are speaking of actual real encounters of people with black eyes. Or perhaps there is some connection. I don't know.

TLC - have you spoken to other family members about the aunt? Have other people seen the black eyes and felt dread as you have?

Gboogie, what you've described of experiences when you were young sounds like lucid dreaming or something. If you're still seeking out a BEK experience, might I suggest you learn much more about these first? I hope your friend will be able to lend the book to you soon and that there is some information in the book that will be helpful for you.

I had two experiences and with two different people I knew, they were elderly woman in their mid 60's, both eyes turned completely black. They would blink in a middle of a conversation and their normal human eyes would change. No contacts and no changing of stressed eyes, it was not human. If anything it was pure evil, I felt the need to run and get far away from this person in both occasions. Oddly one of the woman is my husbands Aunt. I cant bring myself to ever see her again. I felt it was a demon. In both instances the woman appeared to be very kind elderly woman until I saw the Black eyes. Now I question overly kind people thinking they are a demon. I have encountered many Phenomenon prior to and after this experience. My husband and I and our children have experiences and we are Christians. I am so fed up with the devil. Praise Jesus!
