The Beauty of Nature in Spring

The Beauty of Spring

Tulips are one of the first flowers in spring.

I Long for Spring

I am a warm weather person. I love to be outside in nature and all her glory. I want to feel the sun, shining down upon me and warming my soul. I suffer through winter, pacing around the house like a caged animal waiting to be released back into the wild. I long to see green pastures and trees, to smell the flowers and the scent of fresh cut grass. Nature holds so much beauty in spring!

Another Glorious Day

Alas, when spring arrives I feel as though I have been released from my cage and am free to enjoy Mother Nature’s rebirth. Every day is a new exploration. I awake before the sun comes up, just so I can watch it rise. I sit with my cup of coffee and watch as nature unfolds another glorious day. I love to watch all the birds and listen as they awaken and sing their sweet songs.

White Heron

White Heron Fishing for Food

I go for a walk in the cool early morning air. I walk slowly and quietly, taking in the sights and sounds all around me. As I walk down to the pond, I see a white heron slowly walking through the shallows. With his long slender legs, he steps carefully, as he looks for his early morning breakfast of fish or frogs. He walks silently, never making a sound. His footsteps, so gentle, they barely make a ripple in the water. He stands motionless, watching the small fish and tadpoles as they swim around his feet. Watching so carefully, until he dips his beak into the water and snags a little morsel for his breakfast.

White Tailed Deer

White Tailed Deer, Grazing on the Pond Dam

As I stand silently watching, I see a two white tailed doe and fawn coming down to get an early morning drink from the pond. They cautiously graze on the carpet of new green grass covering the pond dam. They see me, but as long as I am very still they continue to graze, still watching me, not knowing if I pose a threat. I watch them for a little while, engrossed in their grace and beauty, but it is time for me to move on. As I make the slightest move, they trot back off into the trees wagging their white tails as a warning to other deer.

Butterfly on Wildflowers

Butterflies and Wildflowers

As I walk through a field, I stop to watch a little butterfly as he lands on the small yellow wild flowers, just beginning to awaken from their winters sleep. The bright yellow colors of the flowers beg the butterfly to come visit. The little orange and yellow butterfly almost disappears as be blends in with the colors of the flowers. But he doesn’t stay on one flower very long as there are many colorful wildflowers for him to visit this morning.

Tom Turkey

Wild Turkey in the Woods

I continue on with my walk, and hear a familiar spring sound. It is a turkey gobbling. I walk as silently as possible and as I round a clump of trees I see a Tom turkey doing his dance for the ladies. He fans out his tail and puffs himself up to show off his manliness. The bright red wattle on his neck stands out to attract the attention of the ladies. His does his spring dance, strutting and clucking as he dances around in a circle. He is saying, “Look at me ladies, I am the man you want.” The ladies seem to be ignoring him as they continue on their way, eating grass and bugs. They eventually wander back into the woods with Mr. Tom following along behind.

Lavender Bearded Iris

Spring Flowers

A little further down the trail, there are some purple bearded iris that are beginning to bloom along the fence line. Apparently these have washed down from a clump that was planted on top of the hill. As they are perennials in this area, they come back every year and multiply. Their long stems shooting up from center of their sword like leaves, crowned with the soft purple colored petals. Their lower petals seem to flow downward, opening up to show off their soft yellow centers. They seem to call out to you to reach out and touch them and feel their supple texture. These lovely flowers will attract some bees and hummingbirds. It’s a shame they only bloom in spring as they add such a wonderful color to the landscape.

Spring is such a beautiful time of year. Fall and winter have cleaned the landscape and spring is a re-birth of nature. The emerald green of the new leaves and grass, the endless variety of spring colored wild flowers and the birds flitting around finding nesting places and doing their mating dances for partners. What an exciting time of year. I try to take in all I can and appreciate spring as a new beginning for nature and all her wonder.

Hi Peggy! I am so ready for Spring! We have had an exceptionally warm winter until Christmas Day, when we received about 1 1/2" of snow. I like the snow for about 1 day, then I am ready for warmer weather. I would love to see all the Azaleas! Who knows, maybe we can pop down to Houston about that time. Thank you for your kind comment and votes! I hope you and your family had a very Merry Christmas and I hope you have a safe and Happy New Year! Hub hugs! :)

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on December 26, 2012:

I really liked this...your photos and words reminding me of the Spring to come after we get through these current Winter months. It is a short Winter in Houston. By early March we always have our Azalea Trail in town and Spring flowers abound. Up and beautiful votes.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. Spring always goes by too fast to suit me. It has been so got this summer, I am ready for fall! Thank you for your wonderful comment, and votes, it is always appreciated! Have a wonderful day! :)

C E Clark from North Texas on August 15, 2012:

Great photos! Especially like the sunrise, the tom turkey, and the iris. Wild flowers are beautiful here in North Texas in the spring too. My favorite time of year here in TX is spring -- when we have one. Sometimes spring lasts several weeks and other times it goes straight from winter to summer. :( Not that far from you in OK, so it must be on the same order.

Great hub. Voted up, interesting, and beautiful!

Hi sgbrown. I've been sick all week with the flu and have been going out of my mind stuck here in the house. I'm feeling a little better this morning so I went outside to look at and take pictures of our blooming daffodil's. I just read your Hub and I couldn't agree with you more. THE BEAUTY OF GOD’S LOVE By BERNARD LEVINE

God is amazing

He chooses every baby's DNA and blood type

He puts every star in place to float in the sky

He creates every fingerprint with a rare design

He makes an egg to burst open with life.

God is great

He selects all the love-songs for every bird to sing

He makes broken bones mend

He gives every flower its specific perfume

He cares for seeds and they turn to fruit.

God is awesome

He tells the seasons when to change

He gives us air so we can breathe

He feeds multitudes of living organisms on our planet

He waters fields of green carpets with morning dew.

Every leaf is a marvel of God's genius

Every baby is filled with God's love

There is nothing in this world more precious

than the beautiful kindness of God.
