Persistence of Memory

Salvador Dali Poem

A picture within a picture

Surreal yet insightful

Seeing with two visions

Creating something delightful

New image in reflection

Changing the perception

Keeps us on our toes

Almost with deception

Smooth lines that fade

Into other imaginations

Enjoyed by many people

Without making declarations

Influenced by mythology

And visions from the sky

What would have come next

If only you didn’t die

Remembered through artwork

And a vision so unique

Others try to mirror

Your skill and your mystique

The Man

Salvador Dali (May 11, 1904 – January 23, 1989) is a painter known for his surreal artwork that combined images into a single creation. He was heavily influenced by Renaissance artists and his friendship with Pablo Picasso. His first painting to meet with large success was "Persistence of Memory" pictured to the right.

Also one of the other things that made this man memorable. He grew a flamboyant mustache, influenced by 17th-century Spanish master painter Diego Velazquez. The moustache became an iconic trademark of his appearance for the rest of his life.

Dali's Work

Dali started with charcoal drawings that later led him to go to Art school. Here he worked within the cubist movement even though he lacked a full understanding of that movement. He used several styles but is most know for his surreal art.

Some of his most famous paintings include "Swans Reflecting Elephants" and "The Persistence of Memory". The first is one of my all time favorite paintings. The skill in using background images to represent something else within the reflection shows a creativity and skill that is rare among artists. His ability to see what wasn't there and create it in such detail has always amazed me.
