Stories of Remarkable animals that saved people's lives

Livingsta is a writer who focuses on anything that fascinates, provokes or interests her. She always puts forth her best efforts and focus.

Animals are remarkable , that they exhibit their intelligence in so many different ways. Animals can be quite often man's best friend and also the one who can save man's life. Its amazing how smart animals are and how instinctive they can be. We humans definitely do not give them enough credit sometimes.Below are a few examples that feature how some animals have saved people's lives.

Pig rushes into street to help survive a heart attack victim.

JoAnn Altsman suffered heart attack and collapsed to the floor. She had a pot bellied pig named Lulu. The pig at once rushed to the street and was lying across the street blocking the traffic, hoping to draw the attention of someone who would follow to help Joann. The pig tried its best, untiringly went back again into the house to check on Joann, but still found her collapsed on the floor. So the pig again ran back to the streets and tried until finally a person took the effort to follow the pig to check what the matter was. Inside the house that person found Joann in pain, collapsed on the floor and she was immediately rushed to the hospital. The doctors advised that if she had arrived in hospital 15 minutes later, they would not have been able to save her. Lulu became a national celebrity and her story was on front page news in the New York Times.

Goat feeds farmer for five days

Farmer Noel Osborne was knocked down into a pile of manure while he was doing his regualr farm work. He broke his hips in this incident and was far deep inside his farm that his cries could barely be heard by anyone. His goat Mandy, could probably have understood his situation and  she huddled him to keep him from the harsh cold weather day and night for five days and even let him have her milk.

Whale saves drowning diver

During one of the competitions in china, divers had to hold their breath for as long as possible in a pool of Beluga whales. Diver Yang Yun was also part of this competition. She was perfectly fine during the dive, but when she tried to move here legs, she could not move them because she was suffering sudden cramps in her legs.. One of the whales called Mila realised that something has gone wrong and went to her rescue. Mila is very familiar with humans. The whale took Yun's leg by her mouth and swam to the surface of water lifting her and saving her life. Yun says that she would have been too nervous, and that was the reason for her to get these cramps, and also said that while she was choking and about to drown, she felt a sudden force push her to the top of the water.

Dog lands lifeline, saves 92 on wreck

A ship called Ethie carrying 93 sailors, got caught in the stormy winds in the year 1919. The ship crashed into the rocks and one of the sailors was washed away into the sea. Helpless, the remaining 92 sailors turned their eyes towards Tang the dog. The dog very bravely jumped into the sea carrying tha end of a rope that was attached to the ship. He swam across the waters tirelessly. When the sailors reached the land, the people on the shore were amazed to see the dog's effort, still with the rope attached to his jaw. All the 92 sailors reached ashore safely.

Willie The Parrot Saves Baby's Life!

Megan Howard in Denver, Colorado owns a green feathered parrot named Willie. She had a baby girl Hannah who was 2 years old. One day when Ms Howard was in the bath, Willie started squawking after seeing Hannah get choked with her breakfast. Horse saves owner from raging cow

Fiona Boyd, who is 40 years old, a mother of two, was alone at home on her family farm at Chapmanton, near Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire. She was making tea in the farmhouse when she heard the cries of a calf. She went into the farm and found that the calf was isolated from the rest of the herd and from its mother. She was trying to move the calf to the shed when its mother heard its distressed cries. The mother charged at Mrs Boyd and knocked her down. Mrs Boyd tried to get back to her feet, but the mother knocked her to the ground putting her full weight on her. She feared that she was going to be killed, when she saw her 15-year-old chestnut mare kicking wildly at the cow. As the horse hit out at the cow, Mrs Boyd managed to crawl 20ft to safety under an electric fence. She believes she survived only because her horse, Kerry, raced to the rescue and kicked the cow until it moved off her.

Female Lowland Gorilla Rescues 3 yr Old Boy

On August 16, 1996, a three year old boy climbed the wall around  a gorilla enclosure in the Brookfield zoo in Illinois. The boy fell 20 feet deep into the concrete below and fell unconscious. A female Lowland gorilla called Binti,  walked up to the boy and picked him up. When other gorillas arrived, she growled at them to keep the boy safe. Binti had a 17 month old baby. Carrying the baby on her back, and the 3 year old boy on her right arm, Binti went to the entrance where the zoo personnel could get hold of the boy.

Cat gives Carbon Monoxide warning to Family

Carbon Monoxide is an odourless gas and is highly toxic. A gasoline powered water pump leaked in Keesling's home and the house was getting filled with carbon monoxide. The family did not realise this, but their cat Winnie began to meow loudly at their ears, which was very unusual of Winnie. But then Cathy Keesling got up from her seat, dizzy from the fumes realising that something had gone wrong, while her husband and son were completely unconscious. Luckily Cathy was able to dial 911 before anything serious could happen. They were saved by their cat Winnie.

Amber Mason, from Milton Keynes, during her holiday on the Thai island of Phuket and was enjoying a ride on an elephant when the tidal wave struck. She had formed a friendship with the elephant Ningnong. As the wave rushed towards the shore the elephant turned from the sea and started to run to safety. As the water engulfed the beach the elephant stood firm against the wave until it receded. Amber, was in Thailand with her mother Samantha and stepfather Eddie Mason. She was riding the elephant while Yong, the animal's owner was collecting fish on Boxing Day. The girl explains that It was as though Ningnong sensed that there was some danger and so he turned away from the incoming sea and ran for both their lives where he stood still and braced himself against the water until her mum came to find her.

Dolphins Save Surfer from Shark's Attack

On Tuesday, Aug 28th, 24-year-old owner of Monterey Aquarium Services had gone with friends for a day of the sport they love. Just before 11 a.m. at Marina State Park off Monterey, California, a monster white shark came out of nowhere and attacked surfer Todd Endris. The shark had hit him three times, in which it had peeled off the skin on his back and also injured his right leg seriously. During this time a group of bottle nosed dolphins interfered the attack and formed a protective ring around Endris. This helped him get to the shore, where he was provided first aid by one of his friends. The shark, is estimated to be 12 to 15 feet long.

All these incidents just go to show all of us how living creatures are connected and sometimes we are not the smartest ones. It's just amazing that these animals are more aware of danger than the humans sometimes.

Kimberly Vaughn from Midwest on October 22, 2012:

This is an awesome hub! I enjoyed every story. It reminds me of my parents farm. My dad is often alone on the farm and that worries me. He works with cows and a bull and they are nervous animals. The bull weighs about 2,000 lbs so it makes me nervous that something will happen while he is alone on the farm. He has two labs that stay at the farm with him and follow him around so hopefully they will be as supportive is something happens!

Michelle Liew from Singapore on October 22, 2012:

Dahlia, I know the pig story. Lulu was injured because of the flap that she had to keep going under as well. These animals are true saviors! Thanks for sharing, and I share too.

Mary Hyatt from Florida on October 22, 2012:

True Becky, so surprising to hear this from you. Animals do care a lot more than humans do sometimes!

Thank you for reading and sharing your experience.

Rfordin from Florida on October 18, 2012:

The parrot story touched my heart because our parrot also saved us. We were sleeping and the exhusband was smoking a cigarette while sleeping (moron he is) and dropped it. We were sound asleep and woke up to the parrot squawing loudly and were able to put out the small fire the husband had started. Animals really are saviors more often then not. I enjoyed this article. Thanks for sharing.

Animals are soo beautiful, amazing and as you have detailed, very clever saving lives!

Having said that we all know that they also kill many people but they dont know they are doing wrong due to their nature!

The ones that do save lives are extraordinarily kind for what ever reasons they have for doing so!
