One Question Personality Test

One Question Personality Test

Would you like to know more about yourself and how you are perceived by others? If you don’t, you should. Why? Because each one of us may be two people: the person we think we are and the person other people think we are.

Wasn’t it Robert Burns, the famous Scottish poet, who said way back in the 1700s – no, although I’m older than dirt, he was not a personal acquaintance – ““O wad some power the giftie gie us, To see oursel's as ithers see us!”

Here is a very simple one-question personality test. All you have to do is answer one simple question. Are you up for it? Okay. This is the scenario:

You have your entire day tomorrow free of any obligation whatsoever. You don’t have to go to work. You don’t have to pick the kids up at school. You don’t have to walk the dog. You don't have to pick up your mother-in-law at the airport. (Just kidding). You don’t have any responsibilities whatsoever.

Maybe it's not the shirt. Maybe it's his personality.

Maybe it's not the shirt. Maybe it's his personality.

The Question: What would you like to do most tomorrow?

Below is a list of sixteen choices. Pick the one you would most like to do more than any other. Just one.

Don’t agonize over it. Just choose the one phrase that describes what you would like to do the most tomorrow. Write it down.

• • Organize a class reunion

• • Imagine how the world could be improved

• • Play charades

• • Have a conversation with a friend

• • Be president of a club

• • Contemplate your perfect home

• • Discuss the way things work in the world

Katherine and James and I would have a lovely day together. Stumbling around in the country soaking in the lovely there was my first choice and I do it as often as I can.

My second choice was help a friend move...like to do and do...and I am an expert in the whole moving thing.

I will need to check out some more of the links you provided...

Sending Angels to you drbj...:) ps

Missy Mac from Illinois on December 29, 2012:

Great activity! I can see this as an excellent activity in the classroom. I wasn't surprised that I chose the first one. I enjoy organizing and envisioning the future. Thanks

ghadah on December 09, 2012:

it turns out im an inventor(to be)hopefully, really inspiring and motivational. One day I ll be an inventor ,maybe widely more remarkable than Walt Disney.I loved the article overall, such perceptions that are quite precise.

Dancing Water on October 09, 2012:

Very insightful, witty, fun to read hub! Thank you for the research and personality tests and video! I have always scoffed at the idea of multi-tasking, and your article validates that multi-tasking is a myth at best, at worst a lie created by greedy bosses who wanted to hire one individual who would be willing to do the job of three__or more. Thus, the brutal practice of "downsizing." Thanks again!

Mazzy Bolero from the U.K. on September 20, 2012:

I chose "head for the country" because I thought a relaxing day in the tranquil beauty of the countryside might be just the ticket, but the personality description is of an action-man. I couldn't be less like that! I guess heading for the country may mean something else in the U.S.A., like hunting, fishing and chopping down trees:)

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2012:

Hi, Angelia. I apologize for taking so long to respond to your interesting comments, but somehow I was not notified until this week when HP changed its system of notifications. Mea culpa, m'dear.

It was clever of you to adopt both choices and it makes complete sense because they are not mutually exclusive activities. You can do both successfully at the same time.

I am a fan of short personality tests, too, and this one is one of my favorites. Also, the 'Simple Symbol Personality Test' is fun.

Delighted that I made you grin with this and since you are a Gemini, you do indeed have special dispensation to blend the two choices. I have spoken!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2012:

Hi, rdhkir. Nice to meet you. Delighted it was so accurate when you answered the one question. It does seem weird, I know, but this survey was crafted from the much more extensive Myers-Briggs instrument which I value. Thanks for visiting.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2012:

Not to worry about your IQ, Ed. You are head and shoulders above the rest. And what did those teachers know. They were just jealous. Right? You stay happy, too, my friend.

femmeflashpoint on December 14, 2011:

Dr BJ,

I was TORN between a conversation with a friend and heading to the country. So, I surmised I could be persuasive enough to have both and take the friend to the country and have a conversation while we found something exciting to get into. (Grin!)

Worked for me!

I've decided in personality tests, the shorter the better, and in the short of it, HOPEFULLY they'll have accomodating choices. They make soooo much more sense than the ones that request to select the one that comes closest to fitting the test taker, and then don't offer anything that remotely FITS the test taker.

Those drive me bats. This one made me grin.

Since I'm a Gemini, I think it's my birth right that should allow me to have taken two and blended them into one. Hope that doesn't reflect that I'm greedy, because I'm usually willing to share. :)

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on July 27, 2011:

As always, Ed, I am happy to hear from you. Yes, you are correct. The choices could be situational so I could easily understand if you took a "tour of houses." Without the dog, that is. And thanks for the 'neat stuff' comment - I shall treasure it. Promise.

Ed Kassner on July 26, 2011:

Hi again( drbj)you have so much neat STUFF on your site.I chose the DANCE.The choices could be situational.Example--Had to opt for the trip out of town because while looking at houses my dog made a mess" and the house belonged to the terminator. Thanks again for the listen,ED.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on June 22, 2011:

Thanks for enjoying this 'test,' Pamela. You are right on the mark. Both of your choices do have similarities. Think about it. You could "go to a party" and "have a conversation with a friend." Works for me! :)

Pam Rakow from Orlando, Florida on June 21, 2011:

Very neat hub! I was between the options "have a conversation with a friend" Idealist/Searcher and "go dancing or go to a party" Entertainer/Performer. Both of these choices had characteristics that resembled my personality. I enjoyed this one!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on June 07, 2011:

That British TV series sounds tres interesting, Dolores, I'll have to find some clips to watch. I'll tell them you sent me.

Dolores Monet from East Coast, United States on June 07, 2011:

No, these are the suggestions of this hub. Not the 19th century part, that comes from watching too much Lark Rise to Candleford.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on June 04, 2011:

Sounds 19th century? Ah, now I understand, Dolores, now that I think of those elegant, classy 19th century hubs you have written about women's fashions and shoes back in the old fashioned day. Thank you for the explanation.

Dolores Monet from East Coast, United States on June 04, 2011:

Why a preacher? Cause that's what the test indicated. A sort of preacher who paints and works in the fields. Sounds so 19th century....

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on June 01, 2011:

Hi, Nikki, I, too have been involved giving the Myers-Briggs tests for much of my career. But I finally came up with a method that provides essentially the same result based on the answer to one question. Saves a lot of time! :) Thanks for the visit.

Nikki on May 31, 2011:

I've taken the Meyers Briggs a few times now and I always come up as the searcher/idealist.... crazy that choosing just ONE thing to do would give me the same result as the really, really long test they have!

P.S. Good luck on the unfinished project.

Ivorwen from Hither and Yonder on May 22, 2011:

I'm sending this to my husband to see if it will help us with perspective. :)

Since 'Work on an unfinished project' wasn't on the list I chose 'Have a conversation with a friend'. Imagine my surprise when I read the prayer! As always, thank you for the fun and wisdom.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 22, 2011:

You love this hub, Mrs. JB? Then, of course, I love you. Delighted your choice of activity fit your personality to a T. The fun is on me. :)

Mrs. J. B. from Southern California on May 22, 2011:

This is so much fun. I chose participate in an Art class. Fits me to a T with the description... I loved this hub!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 21, 2011:

Hi, Thelma, don't be surprised hat you may have two personalities. We usually have one that is dominant and as many as 3 others that rise to the occasion.

Delighted by your visit and the almost accuracy of the test and of course, the up. Thank you!

You might also like to visit my latest personality test: "Simple Symbol Personality Test" and let me know what you think.

Thelma Alberts from Germany on May 21, 2011:

This is a funny and interesting hub. I choosed go dancing for I love to dance and then I found out that I have 2 personalities. I usually want to be alone. Dancing without company is not fun. Almost accurate test for me. Voted Up!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 12, 2011:

Thank you, Tina, for stopping by - especially with such gracious comments. Delighted you found this a nice and fun way to analyze personality. Was it accurate for you?

Funny you mentioned writing a book and not just an article; I have considered that but writing hubs is much more fun. You can get almost immediate feedback.

TINA V on May 11, 2011:

This is a well written hub – interesting analysis. This is a nice and fun way to analyze a personality. I think you need to continue writing a book and not just an article. Thumbs up!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 04, 2011:

Hi, Dolores, nice to see you here, m'dear. So the beach or the art class fit you, too? That's cool. A preacher next? Why did you choose that profession? Just wonderin'.

Dolores Monet from East Coast, United States on May 04, 2011:

Hi, drbj - haha, I read some of the comments and had to laugh when I read CMHypno's - just what I was going to say. So, if I can't go to the beach, I'd be in an art class. And it does kind of fit. Maybe I'll be a preacher in my next incarnation.

Stacy Harris from Hemet, Ca on May 04, 2011:

I will definitely have to check that one out!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 04, 2011:

Being inquisitive and always looking for possibilities does describe a good writer, barbergirl28. Try the "Take the Pig Personality Test." :)

Stacy Harris from Hemet, Ca on May 03, 2011:

Actually, I change my mind... I just gave my husband the test and as I read through all the answers, I realized that I would rather play charades. The reason I probably overlooked it the first time is because I have never played charades... but I do like board games and family game nights. My husband was the Artisan - and that described him to a T - wasn't as much a good description of me. However, when I realized my simple mistake of overlooking things.... Charades fits me perfectly... lol

Overall, great hub... even if I have to weigh everything over and over and over again. LOL Wait - isn't that like the Journalist!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 03, 2011:

You would write 'all day long,'barbergirl? Then you are certainly in the right place on Hubpages. Nice to meet you.

Thanks for the visit and the 'great hub.' I have always been fond of this one-question test because it is so often right on the money.

You may be the Artisan and the Artist - they are similar in many ways.

Stacy Harris from Hemet, Ca on May 03, 2011:

Simply scrolling down the list, I choose Art to start off with not even finishing the list yet. Mainly because if I had no obligations and no interuptions, I would sit down and write all day long. But, after glancing and making a decision without thinking much... going with my gut... my actual decision (after looking at them all) was to leave the country. Mainly because if nothing was in my way - I would love to travel. My lifestyle makes that nearly impossible to get out of the country. It is my adventurous side coming out. Even though I don't like to be overly dangerous. I work myself up way too much! Great hub! Interesting comparison on how things can tell your personality!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 02, 2011:

Happy to have provided you with a laugh, Nellieanna. Four to be exact!

Nellieanna Hay from TEXAS on May 01, 2011:

hahahaha! Good joke, DRBJ!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 01, 2011:

Hi, Lene Lynn. Loving that you loved it and that it fit you perfectly. No thanks necessary. Entirely my pleasure. Did you take the Pig Personality Test or the Celebrity Personality Test yet?

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on May 01, 2011:

You're still amazed, Justsilvie? Me, too!

Lene' Lynn St. John from Glendale, AZ on May 01, 2011:

Loved it! I have taken several personality tests over the years and never did this one til just now. It fit me perfectly, thanks!

Justsilvie on April 30, 2011:

It was pretty much on target, I am still amazed!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 30, 2011:

You know, tony, I kinda guessed that, too. And I don't think Jimmy minds a bit being 'lumped in' with you. In fact, I think he's proud of the association.

tony0724 from san diego calif on April 30, 2011:

I was a head out to the country guy. But I don't mind being lumped in with James Dean.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 30, 2011:

Thank you, Justsilvie. Delighted you found this amazing. Was it good for you?

Justsilvie on April 30, 2011:

This is amazing! Great Hub

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 29, 2011:

Mebbe, Nellieanna, but I can't remember what that word means! heh, heh.

Thank you for giving me an opening for my favorite forgetful joke:

Three senior ladies are talking. One says, "You know, I'm getting really forgetful. This morning, I was standing at the top of the stairs, and I couldn't remember whether I had just come up or was about to go down."

The second one says, "You think that's bad? The other day, I was sitting on the edge of my bed, and I couldn't remember whether I was going to sleep or had just awakened."

The third one smiles smugly. "Well, my memory is just as good as it's always been, knock on wood," she says as she raps on the table.

Then with a startled look on her face, she calls out, "Who's there?"

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 29, 2011:

Now that was funny, Colin. I visualized you morphing into several personalities while scrolling. But every one of them, my merry man, was amusing and creative.

And your comment - my having 'multiple world famous hubs' - means even more to me coming from the great Epigramman. Thank you.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 29, 2011:

Hi, Hilary. Glad you had fun even if you aren't another Ahnold. Actually, there are four preferences that feature creative writing; Author, Journalist, Inventor and Architect. Had you chosen any one of those?

Nellieanna Hay from TEXAS on April 29, 2011:

You'd need to be an ophthalmologist to fully diagnose my malady. I can barely see. ;-> See? hehe. As to forgetting, - now, that is right up my alley. Maybe you're a geriatrician? tee hee. . . .

epigramman on April 28, 2011:

...actually it took me so dang long to scroll down to the bottom of this screen that I went through several mutiple personalities myself - and of course if anyone here at the Hub has multiple personalities - lol - then it's the epi-man - lol - but you always have multiple world famous hubs - and for good reason!

Hillary from Atlanta, GA on April 28, 2011:

I don't know how accurate this test is drbj; at least it proved to be way off the mark for me! I'm no Schwartzenegger :) Fun to play anyway. Cheers. Wonder why there isn't a choice for writing?

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 27, 2011:

Thank you, Susie, for enjoying this hub. No thanks necessary, my pleasure entirely.

Did you find your choice accurate? just wonderin'.

SUSIE DUZY from Delray Beach, Florida on April 27, 2011:

I enjoyed this hub, thanks

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 27, 2011:

Jane - Choosing two preferences is not cheating - it's simply superior thinking. I say that because I am two, too. (Leader/Instructor and Journalist). Thanks for visiting - it's always my pleasure to have you drop by.

Jane Bovary from The Fatal Shore on April 26, 2011:

Drbj, I had trouble making the choice of *what to do tomorrow*...which is revealing in itself, lol. I just couldn't make that snap decision and had to choose TWO options...so I'm a cross between inventor and journalist.

Obviously I cheat at personality tests!

SilverGenes on April 26, 2011:

At the risk of perplexing future archeologists even more... ROFLMAO!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 26, 2011:

Delighted you found this interesting and fun, Alexandra, even if it was too close for comfort. That's good.

I already know you're a totally cool person, and isn't it awful how many others have issues???

I'm not surprised at your choice of preference but moving furniture around? Well, change is good. In fact, the only thing certain in life is change! ....... Except from a vending machine!

Sorry, I couldn't resist the opportunity.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 26, 2011:

Hi, TCM Specialist.

'COOL, fun, and educational,' too. What more could I ask. Thanks for stopping by; it's nice to meet you.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 26, 2011:

Thanks for the visits, Ghost 32. We're practically best friends already. I'll have to thank Mrs. J..B. for the recommendation.

I always say a partial description-fit is better than no fit at all. And thanks for the up AND the across.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 26, 2011:

How nice to meet you, Ashantina. What a lovely name. Thank you for the 'spot on' and the 'interesting.'

SilverGenes on April 26, 2011:

Drbj, this was very interesting! And too close for comfort hahaha. (Just kidding. I'm totally cool with who I am. It's those other people who have issues hehehe) I seem to fit the Artisan. Heading out is definitely what I would do, camera in hand. And the rest of it is also true. Heck, I even move my furniture around on dismal days just to affect change! This was fun :)

TCM Specialist from Glassboro, New Jersey on April 25, 2011:

COOL- Not only was that fun, but it was educational too.

Ghost32 on April 25, 2011:

I don't like any of the choices. First, suspecting that might be the case, I figured out what I'd REALLY like to do with a total "Free Day". Then since none of the 16 choices fit, I read a couple that PARTIALLY fit--and yes, the descriptions partifally fit me as well.

Okay, now to go check out Genghis Khan.

Note: Mrs. J.B. recommended I actually read some of your stuff. Shame on her; I'm already about half hooked!

Voted Up and Across.

Ashantina on April 25, 2011:

Spot on drbj!!! An interesting hub by an equally interesting man.....

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 25, 2011:

Thank you for digging it, James, and thank you immensely for the compliment - 'most interesting hubs of all.'

I am not surprised that you are the 'Inventor' and that you have been involved in almost all the career choices mentioned for that preference. You are a renaissance man, my friend.

You and your comments are much appreciated, nay, cherished.

James A Watkins from Chicago on April 25, 2011:

You always have the most interesting Hubs of all. This is truly fascinating. I chose "Discuss the way things work in the world." THE INVENTOR. Frequent Career Choices: Leadership ... Business ... Government ... Entrepreneur ... Journalism ... Consulting.

I suppose this is true since I have held positions in all six of those—except government. :D

Thank you for the journey. I can dig it!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 25, 2011:

We already have a lot in common, Mrs. J.B. - same initials! So happy to meet you and learn you had no difficulty choosing your preference. Thanks for the 'very cool hub.' You seem pretty cool yourself.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 25, 2011:

Delighted to meet you, Tankadin, and to know how accurate this test was for you. As you pointed out, it's not too shabby to be in the company of Washington and the Queen.

If you act quickly maybe it's not too late to wangle an invite for the upcoming royal wedding.

Thank you for the 'excellent hub' comment - the pleasure is all mine.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 25, 2011:

Hi, Audrey - delighted this was 'pretty darn close.' And you are certainly in good company with Jimmy and Hepburn.

From the little I have learned about you through your writing and comments, I would say you are also 'pretty darn close' to Depp and Sawyer. Pretty good backup, I would say. Thanks for your comments which are always appreciated.

Mrs. J. B. from Southern California on April 25, 2011:

Without hesitation I chose , Quietly speculate about practical ideas. Yup that's me... Very cool hub!

Tankadin on April 25, 2011:

I'm surprised at how accurate this was. I was somewhat disappointed I wasn't in the company of any exciting movie stars, but how can I possibly complain about George Washington. Thank you for the excellent hub.

Audrey Hunt from Idyllwild Ca. on April 24, 2011:

Holy Cow - this is pretty darn close. Both James Dean and Katherine Hepburn are two of my favorite actors. But, oh oh oh, how I wanted to be in the same classification as Johnny Depp. Urrrrgh. And my personality is an exact duplicate for Organizing a Class Re-union. And yet, I really dislike organizing anything. :)vocalcoach

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 24, 2011:

Perhaps, amillar, you could organize a get-together (party) and ask your guests to offer suggestions on how the world could be improved. There is nothing wrong with selecting two choices. I have. (Journalist and Leader/Instructor).

amillar from Scotland, UK on April 23, 2011:

I still can't make up my mind whether to 'imagine how the World could be improved', or 'organise a party', so maybe I'll just sit and read a book about the Art o Decision Making. But I'm not sure about that, and I can't decide why - so maybe I won't do that either...

Did you say one question?

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

wmwm - Do take the test and let me know what you think. It's even more simple than this one.

Mishael Austin Witty from Kentucky, USA on April 23, 2011:

Ha! No, unfortunately "with money" is not a term I would use to describe myself! Actually, I don't really know what the "wm" stands for. It keeps changing ... Right now I think it's just the repetition of the initials from "working mom," but we'll see how it evolves.

Hmm ... Pig Personality Test. That does sound interesting!

Motown2Chitown on April 23, 2011:

Shhhh....Austin, it's supposed to look like I'm the innocent one! :P

Lela from Somewhere near the heart of Texas on April 23, 2011:

drbj, I'm not a grandmother, hope you don't have me confused with someone else. Otherwise, all of the above applies.

Did I corrupt you Mo? I thought it was the other way around!

P.S. I generally go commando - no knickers please!

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

The world is full of coincidences, Motown. Some would call it Fate. Be careful now here on Hubpages - we writers are an eclectic lot.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

Are you referring, Lela, to your certificate in hematology, photography, creative writing, exceptional grand-mothering, or all of the above?

Motown2Chitown on April 23, 2011:

drbj - I can't help it, Austin has begun to corrupt me...lol

:)

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

Now wait a minute, Motown, keep encouraging Lela and Laurel and there's no telling the consequences.

@Lela - Depends, I am told, you can depend on.

@Laurel - Speaking of being a pest, here's my favorite take on the subject: "A friend in need is a pest indeed." I have spoken.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

@Lela - don't get your knickers in a bunch (I learned that from my British Hubbuddies).

Thanks for the explanation. I understand ROFL but the PP is a new one.

@Laurel - Lela says, "You're welcome." I read minds, too.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

You could never be a pest, laurel. Simply think of yourself as an inquiring mind. And yes, I loved the link.

Bob was one of my all-time favorites. I also enjoyed Suzanne Pleshette who played the role of his wife on some of his episodes.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

It was most definitely my sincere pleasure to remind you, RH, of your potential as a poet.

Yes, we MPD folks have so many options when we awake in the morning. Today shall we be amazingly accurate or deviously deceptive. One never knows. Wait, make that two never know.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

So glad you were able to find a fulfilling choice, susie. The Idealist/Searcher preference seems to fit you well - creative writing is one of its dominant characteristics and you are an excellent, creative writer, m'dear.

Procrastination does sometimes rear its head with this choice but only because you are always searching for the best answers, the best possibilities.

Thank you for the up and the sharing - you are much appreciated.

Motown2Chitown on April 23, 2011:

Funny, drbj - I met my husband while I was living in Jacksonville, FL...lol - I spent a year there. :) I'm a midwest girl at heart, though, so we moved here. Detroit wasn't exactly the best place in the world to start anew at the time. :)

And, it's a pleasure to meet you as well.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

Pleasure to meet you, workingmomwm. Does the 'wm' in your avatar stand for 'with money'? Just wonderin'.

How pleasant to learn that your husband is your best friend. And I can understand why. Your personality preferences are most compatible.

Thanks for finding this test spot on. You might like to take a shot - each of you - at "The Pig Personality Test." See link above.

drbj and sherry (author) from south Florida on April 23, 2011:

Nice to meet you, mikicagle - so happy you found this hub great, useful and voted up. Thank you.

Contemplating choices is good especially if they fit you. Sometimes studying them further helps to make a definite choice. Promise.
