- Dan Dennett: The illusion of consciousness | Video on TED.com
TED Talks Philosopher Dan Dennett makes a compelling argument that not only don't we understand our own consciousness, but that half the time our brains are actively fooling us.
Our Consciousness is subjective and can:
- think of ideas
- taste things and discriminate between tasty or yucky
- see things around
- speak words
- feel love or hatred
- smell fragrances.
Our brain assists our consciousness, but it is just a wired box where neurons are sending in synapses to each other and helping the thoughts process.
It is our Consciousness or our Qualia that make us a human. Our thoughts and how we process them depends on our consciousness.
Today Man is facing many issues, which are inter-related to each other such as:
- Global Warming amongst many others.
These are all man made problems.
Economy went into shambles when we started defining happiness as spending even when we did not have sufficient funds, however; the bankers were ready to loan us the money since they wanted us to be happy in a superficial way.
What was the result?
Many got bankrupt and lost their homes or other valuables in order to pay the exceeding bills.
Superficial happiness will lead us to misery. Humans have to learn to be content within them selves and not find happiness out there. Our Conscious has the effort to keep us entertained in many ways and help us stay happy without spending a dime. We have to look within ourselves, and find what actually makes us happy.
- Poverty Facts and Stats — Global Issues
This part of the globalissues.org web site presents some of the hard hitting facts and statistics on poverty.
Poverty arises when jobs are lost, and humans do not have sufficient funds to pay their bills, some lose their valuables and their basic shelter. It is heart warming to see people on the streets; homeless and nowhere to go.
Human helps human by giving donations or helps to create awareness of the issue that is surrounding us.
Right now we have over 80% of people living on less than $10 a day worldwide. We all are conscious about poverty and homelessness, but how many of us have undoubtedly reached out to them?
Crime is another issue that has made man sit in fear either in his home or any enclosed place to protect himself from another man.
Thinking about it logically…is’nt that ridiculous.
Man fears Man.
Man is just made up of his consciousness, and this consciousness comprises of his five senses. Then, is the other man attacking him because of his five senses? It is senseless.
How can it be stopped?
Crime can be curbed by the realization within one self that it is the consciousness that makes the man, and if he is attacked, his feelings of hatred or his wallet being stolen for money will be a temporary thing. If the person who is committing the crime does not realize what exactly his consciousness aspires, he will be stealing or killing each day.
- Humanity One World: My Planet, My Home
This Planet is the HOME of all living beings, and what is the current status of it? This hub gives the factual data on our present status and ways to save it.
- Abracabadra: How do things go Viral?
Global Warming is another issue that is affecting all mankind. Changes in temperature are not only killing harmless animals, but also changing our environment for the worst.
How can we change it?
We all know the mantras for helping our environment: The 3 R’s.
But how many of us truly do it?
It is the conscious effort of actually doing it and helping to make a difference. Do not think that my neighbor is not in it so I can also opt out. You doing it; will send out positive vibes to your neighbor who will start to follow the trend. Things can go viral quickly.
- A Letter to Inflation
Inflation is hitting us ALL. This hub talks about the various ways it affects us and how economists are trying to control it. It also requests Inflation for some basic concessions in our lives.
Ponder on this
Man mainly comprises of a Soul. Conscious is our soul, our Atma. Many of us get detached from it. Such people are dead while living on this planet.
Do not be one of those people and let your consciousness live and breathe and taste and feel and hear to all the pains and sufferings around you.
Our Consciousness is the road to freedom. Our awareness of the misery around us, our realization to liberate ourselves and our brethren from it, will help us make this abstract consciousness real and help us delete out all the man made problems.
Man is not only intelligent but a powerful being.
Let us unite and take a stand on the various issues that have arisen by us, and help the needy by reaching out to them.
It is not much of an effort if all of us dive into it with dedication.

Our minds are so very powerful and we use so little of this amazing organ. I love this line "Humans have to learn to be content within them selves and not find happiness out there. " Oh how true! The earlier we learn this, the sooner happiness follows. Thank you so much! Sharing on FB, Twtr, Pin. and hubpages.
