How to Use Arabic Curse Words and Phrases (Like a Native Pro)
I have an uncontrollable interest in foreign languages and how they can influence our way of thinking about the modern world.
Arabic is such an exciting and multifaceted language that I encourage everyone to at least study once in their lives. For those of you who wish to undertake this endeavor, I've decided to enjoy this endeavor with a list of 10 common Arabic curse words, phrases and vulgarities...for your careful use and edification.
Now I know what some of you are thinking. Curse words from the whole Arabic world? Well no..not exactly. I understand that the whole arabic lexicon encompasses many different cultures, accents and ways of thinking and acting. Therefore, the following list is more Egyptian Arabic. Hopefully this can be a starting point. Feel free to add in the comments.
Warning: Be careful when using this language in Vietnam or in the presence of fluent speakers of the language. You could lose friends. Or worse.
Vulgar / Extremely Insulting Terms:
قحبة - Ghahba or quhba
Literally means "b!$ch" in Arabic. Also has the connotation of loose person / loose woman in English. Can be very offensive if used on or with the wrong crowd.
كس - Kuss or Kos
Literally means "pu$$y". Used in a vulgar sense. Other terms may be used to scientifically/medically describe in a formal manner.
Example: کس امك - [kuss ommak] - "your mother's p%$$y"
شرموطة - Sharmota or Sharmuta
This literary means “whore”. And this word can be very offensive in Arabic. And this uses like “ya Ibn Al-Sharmota” and this means “you son of a whore”
زب – Zipp
This means “p&nis”. And they used like “Mos zippy” and this means “Suck my d*%k”.
طيز – Teez
Means “A$$”. Is like “Ilhas teezy” this means “lick my a$$”
Milder Curse Words / Terms:
يلعن أبوك - El’an Abook
This phrase means “may your father be cursed”, and is probably one of the most insulting ways to get someone into a fight. As the father is usually the breadwinner in a traditional Arab family, by cursing the father you are basically dooming the entire family.
الله ياخدك - Allah Yakhthek
This phrase means “May God take your soul”, which basically means they hope that person dies then and there. While it may sound like a peaceful thing to say when someone is about to actually die, this insult is quite hilarious because of its dry and sarcastic undertones.
يا حمار - Ya Hamar
This literally means “you donky,” and is uttered to degrade someone as being filthy, dishonest, or immoral.
كُل خرا – Kol Khara
This means “eat shit” KHARA mean “SH*T”.
طز فيك -Tozz Feek
This literally means “screw you,” and is used to vent off against someone annoying.
Words For Teasnig and Naughty Banter
قواد - Gawad
and this basically means that someone is a “pimp”. It doesn’t matter what the argument is about, when someone calls you a pimp in Arabic it’s one of the most insulting things to be called.
ديوث – Duyuth
It means a person who does not envy his wife, and is usually used to alienate men.
ابن الحرام – Ibn Haram
This means “son of adultery”. And they used like “ya Ibn Al-Haram”.
مخنث – Makhanet
This means “Gay”. This called for man who act like a lady.
تيس – Tess
This means “he-goat”. And usually used to make fun of person.
