In the Philippines, many Filipinos would tell the date and time in either Spanish or the English language.

Yes Virginia and Joe, the Filipino language borrows heavily from these two languages.

This fact has something to do with the Philippines’ rich and complex past.

You see, many Spaniards and Americans had lived in the country so, naturally, Filipinos learned to use their languages and even tweaked some Spanish and English terms to make them Filipino sounding.

In fact, English is widely spoken in the Philippines.

So, using English terms for date and time when speaking with Filipinos would be fine, at least in most instances.

Just the same, it is still useful to know words and expressions about date and time in the Filipino language.

Doing so would give the impression to your Filipino or Filipina friends, acquaintances, or family members that you took the effort to learn a little of their native language.

Without much delay, here are some useful words and expressions about telling the date and time in the Filipino or Tagalog language.
