I am a believer in that these gods and goddess have gained popularity because they embody qualities that the modern man or woman can't not possible do. How they controlled there realm with displays of strength and love make it a great story to read. There were many gods which can be related to by men of this culture by certain characteristics (which is a greek word) they display. Same for women. As i stated above i will name the most renown gods and explore some of their characteristics. ZEUS, is the number one popular greek god! Zeus was the supreme lord of gods, god of the sky and is symbolized by the Thunderbolt. He was the son of the Titan Cronos, he overpowered his father and killed him. He was married to Hera, his character traits are: *fatherly * caring *considerate *judge fairly* peacemaker* cannibal* murder of those he felt was a threat* control freak* nasty/ kidnapping (he spared no remorse for who ever he desired he simply took what he wanted including mating with children). The Second most popular is Poseidon. Poseidon is the god of the sea. He was married to Ampherita. His character was very moody. He was known to throw terrible tantrums that caused earthquakes. He also had a bad temper. He is symbolized by a Trident. When he was in a good mood he would create new islands. Like Zeus his brother he chased other women and when he didn't get what he wanted he would take it by force. ARES is the third most popular god. He is considered a dark god and is the god of war. Known for being manly, strong, jealously, and loving Aphrodite. He is symbolized by beardless warrior dressed in battle arms or naked youth with a helm and spear.

The most popular Greek Goddess is Aphrodite. She is the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. She is symbolized by a dove, an apple, or a mirror. Her characteristics were:irresistibly charming, large appetite for loves but fickle in returning affection afterwords, vain and competitive in her beauty. The second most popular is Athena. She is the goddess of Wisdom and War. She was the daughter of Zeus, she really was a jack of all trades being that she represented independence. She was respected among the gods for her strength and was loved by the athens for her wisdom and resound mind in all matters. Hera is the third most popular goddess. Hera was the goddess protector of marriage. Some of her characteristics were a temperament, power, status and leadership. Along with her partnership with a man. She was a very vulnerable goddess.
