There is nothing that can be done against the God’s will. We can stop the disasters caused by man, but there is nothing we can do that can stop the natural disasters that have been written in the fate of a nation by God himself.

These Natural disasters such as earthquakes, cyclones, hurricanes, volcanoes etc are unpredictable and within a short span of time can destroy a whole nation. The history of this planet is full of the stories relating to the natural disasters.

Many nations have been destroyed; millions of lives have been lost at the hand of fate. We can never find out when a disaster would occur but we can only find the reason.


The intensity of a natural disaster is judged by the amount of destruction it has caused and its death toll.

Different disasters have their magnitudes measured on different scales, for example a magnitude of earthquake is measured on a scale known as the Richter scale.

As said, there have been many cases of natural disasters in the history of earth and these disasters had been responsible for massive destruction in the places where they took place. Below, in random order are the five most dangerous natural disasters ever occurred:

2010 Haiti Earthquake

The 2010 earthquake is the natural disaster that made headlines all around the world. Many termed it as the most devastating natural disaster of modern times, even deadlier than the Asian tsunami.

Although the magnitude of the earthquake on Richter scale was 7.0, but the low grade infrastructure of the region, caused death toll of around 230,000.

The other thing that made it a catastrophic disaster is that nearly a million people were left homeless after this natural occurrence and it will take years, for their rehabilitation.

    Since time unknown the human race has been plagued by disasters that are caused by nature such as storms, floods and earthquakes. These are the weapons of nature used against man resulting in devastation all around.

The 2005 Kashmir Earthquake

The morning of October 8th 2005 started peacefully. It was a beautiful morning in Muzafarabad, Kashmir, Pakistan and the city was sleeping peacefully. At exactly, 8:52 am their peace was taken from them forever.

For it was then, when, one of the deadliest earthquakes of all times occurred. The earthquake triggered at a magnitude of 7.5 and not only shook the city of Muzafarabad but also the entire province of Punjab.

It collapsed the entire city of Muzafarabad, and the small districts near the site of earthquake were crushed to death.

The death toll in total was approximately 79000. The tremors were also felt in the Indian part of Kashmir and even in Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

A US aid of $5 billion was given to the victims and even the fellow Pakistani citizens of the victims donated selflessly.

The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami

On 24th December 2004, at 12:58 am the largest earthquake ever occurred under the Indian Ocean, near Sumatra-Andaman Islands of Indonesia, causing a tsunami that took the lives of over 230,000 people.

The deadly waves took with them not only the entire Sumatra Islands but also took the lives of innocent people from fourteen other countries. The countries that suffered the most after Indonesia, were India and Srilanka.

This huge under water thrust caused by an earthquake of 9.5 magnitude is said to be one of the deadliest natural disasters of all time.

The 1976 Tangshan Earthquake, China

In 1976, the entire country of China felt the jolts that took the lives of over 240,000 people.

This earthquake, which had a magnitude of 8, occurred near the city of Tangshan and caused one of the greatest mass destruction of all time.

This earthquake is said to be the second deadliest earthquake of China, first one being an earthquake that occurred 1556 in the city of Shanzii, and caused a death toll of 830,000 people. The magnitude and further details of the event are unknown.

The 1737 Calcutta Cyclone

In 1737 a disaster hit in Calcutta, India; a typhoon followed by massive flooding. Since there wasn't any technology at that time there is an ambiguity regarding what might have caused the disaster.

A lot of people also considered it to be an earthquake but now it has been confirmed that that it was typhoon that took the lives of 300,000 people. Almost the entire city of Calcutta drowned in this tragic event. This natural disaster caused one of the greatest casualties of all time.

The 1985 Nevado del Ruiz Eruption, Colombia

Volcanic explosions are responsible for causing one of the deadliest natural disasters. One such dangerous and deadly volcanic eruption occurred in 1985 near Nevado del Ruiz, Colombia.

The explosion was so huge that it caused the death of nearly 25,000 people. Innocent victims of this nature’s violence were drowned in the hot mud flows and many were buried under the sliding rocks.

There was a chaos and then everything finished. This disaster has written its name in the history books as one the biggest natural disasters on Earth.

When will a natural disaster occur in the future? Is a question that the answer of which can never be known.

But we can play our part by taking life saving precautions in advance. We can not stop an earthquake but we can make shock resistant buildings that would not collapse and cause a massive mass destruction.

This was a wonderful production about some of the most violent and deadly natural disasters ever to strike the earth. The death and devastation were horrific.

There was another supervolcano on Toba, 74,000 years ago, which erupted 2,800 cubic kilometers of tephra, blocked out the sun and changed the climate immensely!
