For prosper a country, there is a need to advance in technology, warfare, education and the field of medicine; all this is only possible by discoveries made and experiments led by scientists. Scientists have always played a major role in the success of countries.

Their contribution to their nation and humanity in general is unparallel. When we think about Scientists, it is impossible to even ignore for a second what amazing contributions and services have been provided by black Scientists or Afro American scientists for the cause and advancement of science and technology.

Few of these great Scientists and their services are mentioned below in this article.

George Washington Carver

George Washington was born in January, 1864.

His work was mostly devoted to the betterment of farming to improve the quality of life of framers.

He wanted the farmers to grow alternative crops so that it could be served for both purposes as a source of their own eating food and as a source of other products in order to uplift the quality of life of poor farmers.

One of his most famous works was his bulletin of 105 recipes that included only use of peanuts to make gasoline, paints etc.

Marie Maynard Clark

Marie Maynard was born in New York in 1921. From the very beginning she was very much interested in books and his fathers love for science even inspired her more. She was the very first black woman to get a Ph.D. in chemistry.

She worked for seven years on studying the proteins which are built in human body, and later on she researched on the chemicals which are involved in the mechanics of heart attack.

She also worked on bio mechanics and researched on the effects on circulatory system due to aging. In 1999 she was named one of the top 50 women in Science.

Percy Julian

Percy Julian was born on April 11, 1899. His mother was a school teacher and she stressed at the importance of education in the home. As a result three of Percy’s sisters went to complete their master and other two brothers became physicians, but it was Percy who was destined to be most successful among them.

He got his masters degree from Harvard University in 1923. Even with his success Percy was refused to be given a post of assistant teacher at major universities because white students did not want to study under a black teacher.

Along with teaching, he continued his work as a research chemist. He became the pioneer in synthesis of getting medical drugs from plants. It was actually his work which gave the foundation for the birth control medicine. It was due to his research and his work that drugs became so affordable for the pharmaceutical companies.

Mae Jemison

Mae Jemison was born in 1956. She was not only a brilliant physician but also an astronaut.

She became the very first African American woman to travel the Space and was the source of inspiration for many African American women.

She traveled to space in 1992. She had a degree in both medicine and engineering.

She continued her practice for a long time before retiring. She still gives lectures at medical schools and colleges.

Granville T. Woods

Granville T Woods was also called black Edison because his inventions were very similar to Edison. He was born on April 23, 1856.

He mainly devoted his life to make inventions which were concerning the betterment of railroad industry.

He invented a machine which was a combination of telegraph and telephone and it came to be known as telegraphy.

He improved the designs of many vehicles and is also credited for the invention of third rail. He also brought a great deal of improvement in a steam boiler furnace.

Garrett Morgan

Garrett Morgan was born in 1877. There are many inventions which are credited to the name of this great scientist.

One of his most important inventions was traffic signal, which is almost used in every country today. He also invented a gas mask which is also called a breathing device.

The hair straightener, which is use to straighten hairs is also one of his inventions. He is one of the very few African American Scientists who made a large number of inventions.

John Dalton
John Dalton was born in a Quaker (a religious society) family in Eaglefield, Cumberland County. His mother, Deborah, lived by the motto "for God and husband".
Isaac Newton
According to the Gregorian calendar, Newton was born on January 4 that year in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire. Named Isaac after his late father, who had died some three months before his birth.

Stephen Hawking (One Of The Greatest Scientists Of Modern Times)

Amazing to know about these great scientist. We had heard Africans been used for slavery but never knew they had contributed that much to America even before the revolution by M L King.
