Descriptive Research Method: A Glance of Its Uses and Significance in Conducting a Research Study

The goal of each researcher is to use the appropriate research method in a study. In order to do so, the researcher needs to know when to use such a research method by analyzing the various meanings, uses and importance of the research to be carried out in a particular study.

The Descriptive Analysis Approach applies to activity statements as they are with the participation of a researcher and have no direct impact on the variables of the report. It literally means to decide, explain or define what the analysis is all about. The purpose of this approach is to shed light on the present situation through a data collection process that enables the researcher to explain the situation in detail. Likewise, it is specifically and extensively describing a population, situation or phenomenon that addresses questions about what, where, where, and how a research study is performed.

Researchers are on the right track to use descriptive analysis methods to classify characteristics, events, patterns, and classes. It is helpful because not much of the subject matter or issue of the study has yet been established. Before they can research why anything happens, they need to know how, when, and where to do it first. It is therefore necessary to understand the context of the respondents before going through a more in-depth analysis. This is why most researchers use this research approach to carry out their studies.

A public case study of a particular problem uses a descriptive research design that enables observation without affecting the normal actions of the respondents. It is also advantageous where it is indefensible to evaluate and measure the vast numbers of people desired for more observable forms of investigation. These types of research are also used by anthropologists, psychologists and social scientists to perceive normal behavior without impacting them in any state. Bazaar researchers are often used to assess the actions of clients, or to assess the self-esteem of each client. It is often used by educational researchers to assess the causes, to identify the effect and to present an overview of what is happening around the department without influencing the responses of the study respondents.

Similarly, the descriptive research approach is an important way of defining non-quantified research topics or problems. Use the Likert scale to convert the descriptive values into numerical values. It provides the ability to witness the phenomenon in a totally natural and unchanged situation. Typically, the researcher examines what is happening around which he or she acts as the basis for validating the answers of the respondents. It explores the possibility of using qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. It is recognized for the reduced amount of time spent in the conduct of the analysis. Thus, when the researcher has little time to perform a study, this is the most effective research approach to be used in the perform of a research study.

In addition, respondents are being observed in a totally natural and untouched environment. A good example of this would be a researcher who decided to observe the actions of five (5)-year-old children working on the tasks assigned to them by their teachers without impacting their actual success and actions in the performance of their work. On the other hand, true experiments also influence the normal behavior or results of their work.

On the other hand , descriptive studies can not statistically determine or validate the research issue. The results of research may represent a confident degree of injustice due to the lack of statistical tests. This is why researchers use statistical methods to verify the degree of relevance of the analysis. The majority of descriptive studies are not repeatable due to their data-based nature, but the same research may be performed with different sets of respondents, circumstances and locations. They are not accommodating in recognizing the cause behind the phenomena identified because it is confined to the explanation of what, where, where, and how the research study is performed.

It is very important for researchers to be more informed about the content of their studies at hand in order to apply the required study process. By implementing the required research process, it acts as a way of making research work as effective as possible and guides the greatest amount of knowledge with less effort, time and resources. It also adds to the reliability of the results to be achieved.
