A Complete List of Recognized Colleges and Universities in Manila, Philippines
The City of Manila
They say if you make it in New York, you'll make it anywhere. I say if your child graduates from college in the city of Manila, you have a child who's ready to face the harsh part of the working world.
The traffic, the smoke, the constraints of dorms and boarding houses, the daily encounters with all kinds of people, the race for jeepneys and buses, the stretching of the peso, the struggles to complete projects without any help from parents or siblings, and the lack of comforts normal at home -- these are the things that will make your child strong.

Since Manila is the oldest of the cities that make up what has been called Metro Manila, it's here where most of the public and private universities built their campuses. There are now other large universities outside Manila, but many of the biggest universities are still in Manila, with a number of them establishing bigger campuses in the suburbs, where plenty of open land is still available.
Here's a list of colleges and universities in the city of Manila, part of Metro Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR), which are recognized by the Commission on Higher Education.
There are 2,180 higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country as of August 2010, according to the CHED, with most of the HEIs in the Metro Manila area or NCR and in Region 4A (Calabarzon Region). HEIs refer to colleges, universities, institutes and other post-secondary learning institutions.
The NCR hosts 312 HEIs and Region IV-A hosts 276 HEIs. Region III (Central Luzon) follows with 227 HEIs.
Of the 2,180 HEIs, 607 or 27.84 percent are public, and 1,573 or 72.16 percent are private.

Anong school po ba ang nag ooffer ng night or half day classess ? Yung para po sa HRM course?
Mona Sabalones Gonzalez from Philippines on March 23, 2015:
Hi Nera, this is a very comprehensive list of colleges and universities in Metro Manila. However, I just wanna inform you that the cheapest and best would be UP. It's amazingly cheap and it's the best university in the country. Also, if you want your child to pursue further studies abroad, to qualify for a top tiered college overseas, they consider only graduates of UP, La Salle, Ateneo and UST. There is a second tier of colleges, which includes College of St. Benilde, but students here can only be accepted based on grades and academic accomplishments.
At least, this was my experience when my daughter pursued her master's degree overseas.

Nora Tamba (author) on July 13, 2014:
Hi anneng, PCU offers B in Secondary Education Major in Arts. You can also study Fine Arts at UST, PWU, etc. and then teach, if you like. EARIST offers 3-year courses Associate in Fine Arts (Painting) and Associate in Fine Arts (Advertising).
anneng... on July 13, 2014:
Hi, ask lang po san po kayo na university/colleges na may course na art education, bokod sa TUP po?
Thank you! :)

If you're a geek go to UP Diliman but if you're just an ordinary student enroll yourself in the university which tops in the accreditation level of PACUCOA or PAASCU, at least Level II, III Re-accredited status, IV is the highest.

Hi sir ask ko lng po maganda ba mag aral ng bsba sa university of manila ? Or should I say maganda b ang school n yun kasi people say mahihirapan daw ako dun dahil sa kailangan bilhin lht ng libro and pag nag transfer ka eh di nila binibigay sayo yung transcript mo yung kaibigan ko po kasi one year pa daw nya bago nakuha yung transcript nya eh ?
Nora Tamba (author) on May 30, 2014:
Hi again csm, great to know that local school continues to produce CPAs, and that your child is in UP. Not all who dream of going there are able to study there. Indeed, that's our top university (I hear disapproval from the neighboring school :) ). Have another great day, csm!
angel on May 29, 2014:
maganda po ba medtech sa eac?
Jennel on May 26, 2014:
Hello! Can you suggest good schools that offer Medtech course within Metro Manila? Thankyou!
Consolacion Miravite from Philippines on May 22, 2014:
Yep, there are other schools that are not anywhere near the horizon, but you see some of their students beating the daylights out of everybody. That same local college, has two of its graduates making it to no. 4 and 6 in the recent final pre-board in CPAR (Certified Public Accountants Review School) just recently. They are still waiting for the schedule of the CPA Board Exam this coming May or June to know if they will make it as topnotchers.
I am a graduate of the Santa Isabel College, BSC Accounting years ago (pls.don't ask the year, :D) I managed to pass the board, even if the school was not known for its accountancy program, during my time.
Nonetheless, if you ask my kid, there is no other school for her except UP. It is UP and other schools. Nothing comes next as far as she is concerned. Heheh!

Nora Tamba (author) on May 22, 2014:
Hi csmiravite, thanks for commenting.
Yes, that's true, some little known public schools, specially in the provinces, have better passing rates in some board licensure exams than known private schools in Metro Manila.
I've read your posts on two financially struggling students who became successful CPAs, and these have inspired me. Have another great day!
Nora Tamba (author) on May 22, 2014:
Hi lalalaalay, yes. Study well and you'll find your way to success.
Consolacion Miravite from Philippines on May 21, 2014:
There are several good schools in Manila that we may say are the cream of the crop --- University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, Ateneo University, and University of Santo Tomas. There are other equally good schools that are tops in their field: Mapua for engineering, Centro Escolar University for dentistry, Santa Isabel College for music and many others. But it would entirely depend on the student if he succeeds in his chosen course or not. I formerly taught in one local public college run by the one city government, and they were able to produce top notchers in the accountancy field even beating the top notch schools mentioned above.
lalalaalay on April 14, 2014:
Maganda po ba yung HRM sa St scholastica manila?
Nora Tamba (author) on April 04, 2014:

Christian25 on April 04, 2014:
Sir kelan po ang entrance examination sa PMI Sta. Cruz?? Salamat po! :)
Nora Tamba (author) on March 27, 2014:
Hi Lalaine, I know you know that the really affordable schools are the state or city universities. But the entry to these state/city schools is not easy as they require residency and they're besieged by several thousand admission applicants. Try RTU in Mandaluyong.
Among the not-Enderun-DeLaSalle-ADMU private schools, Lyceum Manila's HRM program is becoming popular because it built its own hotel partly for training students.
EARIST, University of Manila, PCU and Arellano charge more affordable fees than other schools; but I have not researched about their facilities.
Lalaine Ramos on March 27, 2014:
Hi po, ask ko lang kung saan po ba mayroong school na affordable pero may mgndang facilities ang school for HRM courses?
Nora Tamba (author) on March 07, 2014:
Hi karla mae, Philippine Normal University has that course and major.
EARIST in Sta. Mesa offers BS in Education.
Rizal Technological University in Mandaluyong offers BSED in Computer Education, English, Filipino, Physical Science, Mathematics, Social Studies.
Philippine Christian University offers BSED in English, Science, Filipino, Mathematics, Music, Arts, Physical Education
New Era University offers BSED in English, Filipino, Science, Math, MAPE
Polytechnic University of the Philippines offers BSED in English, Filipino, Mathematics, Social Studies
It seems that the History major is not a popular offering. The other colleges, even schools in the provinces, that I searched do not offer History major.
karla mae on March 06, 2014:
San po ba pwde kumuha ng course na secondary education major in history pero mababa ang tuition ?
Nora Tamba (author) on December 10, 2013:
Yes, Georgina is right. The name of the school helps, but ultimately, it depends on the effort and resourcefulness of the student and the readiness of the student to take hold of great opportunities coming by.
georgina on December 10, 2013:
i think even your school is not popular as others it's up to the student how/she will respond towards on academic and how you are going to face the reality of the world
Nora Tamba (author) on October 18, 2013:
Hi rachel, try Lyceum Manila. They own a hotel nearby, Bayleaf Hotel, where their students can train.

Or do you plan to come to the Philippines to complete your master's?

Hi, Michelle, UP, PUP, and TUP are among the best, but the 2012-2013 admission exams for these schools are past. If you like to wait for the 2013-2014 school year, then you can start applying now. For UP, the deadline for application is June 15 for Metro Manila high school students and June 22 for those outside of Metro Manila. PUP and TUP have later deadlines, but visit their websites now and take note of the deadlines. These schools, however, require that you have not taken any college course before taking the exam. Check your city-funded university; admission might still be open.
