Prince Kumar is currently studying computer science engineering in college.
There are different kinds of subjects that we study in our journey as a student. Each one has its advantage, uses, concepts, theory, etc. If we understand how to study any kind of subjects like English, Physics, Maths, Accounts, History, etc then our learning becomes fun, not a burden.
I have made the four sections of subjects. According to the subject's theory, uses, difficulty, etc. The four-section of different kinds of subjects, to learn are:
- Understanding Based
- Memorizing Based
- Application Based
Such four categories almost cover all kinds of subjects that we study in school, college or University.
Understanding Based Subjects
Those kinds of subjects that need deep concepts understanding without any cramping, I will cover in this section. Physics, Economics, Thermodynamics are some examples. For learning these types of subjects you have to follow the following steps:
a). Read the Topic
First of all, you must have to read the topic from your source like books, internet. You can also understand via online videos. But don't have to just read the topic fast and fast. Read one line, think about it, what the author wants to say. Then read the next line, again think. This is the way you have to follow while reading.
Note: Never read one single topic from different books. It is only a waste of time. Choose one best book, you may take help of your teacher, lecturer or friends to choose an ideal book for a particular subject.
b). Relate to Real Life
As one topic completes, try your best to relate it to real life. If you are not able to do it. Go outside in the field, park, playground, garden, etc, think again. This helps you to increase the ability to relate to different topics. As a result of it, you have a crystal-clear topic.
c). Write in Your Own Words
When you write the topic in your own words without opening the book, showing how much you grab the concept? As you complete the topic, cross-check it. Note down the mistakes in your fair notebook and think why such a minute thing does not come to your mind?
d). Solve Questions
Before doing the exercise question, first, do the solved examples without seeing the answers. If you are not able to do it, then check out. Solved examples are to understand the methods to solve the numerical. Grab the idea from all examples, jump to the exercise question. If you are not able to do some questions then skip them, do the next questions.
As all questions complete, review the skipped question. Try again, if again the same result, jump back to a particular topic's theory. Read the topic carefully, take help of the internet. Finally, you can solve them.
e). Explain to Yourself or Someone
When we explain the topic to someone or ourselves then we can understand better as compared to only reading and solving questions. In a group study, you do the same thing. Different type of doubts in different brains tests your conceptual understanding.
f). Make a Mind Map and Short Notes
This is also important for our learning. Short notes and mind maps are very helpful in the revision and at exam time. I also suggest adding some difficult questions to your notes.
Note: Never make it between the chapter. Always make it after completing the chapter and good practice.
Memorizing Based Subjects
Now we understand how to study those kinds of subjects that contain lots of theory, facts, points. Biology, Law, History, etc are some examples.
There needs to be cramming to learn the topics. But cramming of many students is weak. So we have to make few changes in our cramming ability.
a). Make a Story of the Topic
For example, I study the digestive system of the human body. I imagine myself as a food. And I follow the same path in imagination as food. This way I learn the sequence of food paths. While learning the name of enzymes, I can write it again and again. I can also compare it to my daily routine. This is very helpful for me.
b). Use Mnemonics
Mnemonics are very helpful for learning the name. As we know there are lots of mnemonics available to learn Periodic Table. I have made some of my mnemonics according to my lifestyle.
c). Write the Topic Again and Again
This helps for retaining the topic for long periods. Also, your writing habits increase. I write the topic at least 3 to 5 times. This may also help to write faster which is very helpful at the exam time.
Now we will understand how to improve the learning method of application-based subjects that contains less theory. But needs lots of problem practice. Mathematics, Accounting, Coding, etc are some examples.
There are misconceptions that math is a subject that needs only practice. But their theory is also important. Many students make a silly mistake that they learn the formula, then jump to questions. But, this is wrong, students are bad at maths because their concepts are weak.
a). Read Theory
Concept's understanding starts from theory, not from practice problems. You need to read and understand it.
b). Do Examples
Examples are the backbone of such subjects. Do all examples with deep understanding. First, try to do it yourself, take some time. After that check answer.
c). Do Exercise Questions
As you feel confident in the theory and examples, start doing exercise questions. Solve varieties of questions.
d). Make Formulae Notes
Again you need to make formula notes for grasping the all-important points at a glance.
These kinds of subjects are very time-consuming to learn. You don't learn in 3 to 4 weeks. You need lots of practice and have to learn small-small topics every day.
Language learning may be categorized as reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
Reading is the first stage of language learning. You have to start reading books, newspapers, articles, magazines, etc. Note some new words that you read.
Listening and understanding is an important part of language learning. You can start watching movies or web series, listening to songs of a particular language.
For writing skills, you need to improve your grammar. Which is very difficult for many students. You may take the help of verified grammar books.
Speaking is the last stage of language learning that needs a lot and a lot of practice. This is because many times a person gets nervous while talking in a different language. To improve it you can start talking to someone who has good knowledge of a particular language.
Those students have some advantage that has tutors for learning a particular language.
|Subjects Type||Mind situation||Day timing||Effective between|
4 am-7 am
5 pm-8 pm
8 am-11 am
1 pm-4 pm
Keep in Mind
- Don't check the answers immediately after solving one exercise problem. For improving accuracy, check answers after doing at least 10 questions.
- Don't do the same type of question, it is only a waste of time.
- Never compare yourself to others.
- Never copy the routine of any topper student.
- Be creative and innovative, not a bookworm.
- Don't do continuous long hours of study, at most 4 hours.
- Don't study after a heavy meal.
- In my opinion day timing is much better for study than night. Otherwise, as you feel comfortable.
- Reward yourself after achieving small goals in your study.
- Never take breaks in small intervals like in 15 or 20 minutes. It breaks your mind's focus. The brain takes some time to focus, it is roughly 20 minutes.
These are my tips to study all kinds of subjects. But keep in mind that you should never follow the full ideas of different students.
Upcoming toppers never copy the previous toppers, instead, they follow them. And make their new path.
I had written this article to give you the right path so that you can make your own best ways to study. You can make some changes to my ways to get perfect ways for yourself.
