A new view based on my studies of archaeology plus commonsense observations of prehistoric jade and megalithic structures.
Neanderthal Cross Breeding
A Unique Blend of Hominids.
The last Neanderthals were living close to the rock of Gibraltar yearning to escape their final annihilation. Their gene pool had been heavily changed by inter breeding with other hominids: Homo Erectus, Homo Habilis, Cro-Magnon man and Homo Sapiens.
These interbred subspecies were always huge in size and strength by definition. The building of megalthic structures for example would have been in their grasp with, or even without, the need for ropes or pulleys.
Not only that, their gene pool extended backwards into the ancient gene pools via interbreeding with earlier hominids. Homo Erectus for example, who in turn shared the gene pool with even earlier hominids all the way back to the most ancient "man-apes".
By using established archaeological data and the oral traditions of several cultures, I am going to follow a line of thought regarding prehistoric migration in this Hub. The oral traditions of Indigenous Australians for example extends back 80,000 years and accurately records evidence of extinct animals and land mass changes.
I am calling this final group clinging to the rock of Gibraltar "Neanderthals" as Neanderthals occupy a significant and unique group with links prior to our most immediate ancestors.
Research regarding the Gibraltar Neanderthals shows they are thought to have died out around 24,000 years ago, at least 2,000 years after the extinction of the last Neanderthal populations elsewhere in Europe. This puts them well into "recent" hominid activity and reinforces the theory of extensive gene pool contamination.
They were still forced to live in the Gibraltar caves but possessed a higher level of intelligence and may well have had a budding technology far beyond their time. There are oral traditions (discussed later), and other evidence, that Jade stones were being worked by early hominids. The tool kit required to work Jade stones was far beyond the normal technology of prehistoric times.
Due to the thousands of years of cross breeding with various Hominids their physical appearance was more animalistic with occasional individuals who even harked back to the earliest roots of mankind.
Recent archaeology has suggested that early man was deliberately cross breeding to create healthier specimens. I am positing that the primitive remnants were often hunted out of existence, or sacrificed in rituals as scapegoats. Scapegoating is a very neglected archetype in psychological and anthropological research.
The physical appearance of theoretical ancient immigrants to the Americas in Mormon and other nineteenth century literature bears no resemblance to my own theory of men with animalistic characteristics. Indeed as described in the "Book of Mormon" the immigrants were more like Hollywood beauties. The only similarity to these other antiquated theories is evidence of a group of desperate immigrants fleeing from persecution. Many other nineteenth century theorists also posited these American migrations and even today there is DNA evidence regarding early European DNA in the genes of Ancient Americans.
Evidence of South American cocaine and tobacco in Egyptian mummies also supports cross Atlantic contacts of some unexplained kind.
The only advanced culture across the Atlantic were the Ancient Americans: there is no other "Atlantis", just ancient rumors about a large civilization across the Atlantic Ocean. Odd vegetation washed up from the Americas on the European coast and isolated visits by American inhabitants over tens of thousands of years added to the mysteries.
If you want a quick informative catch up read about how important Jade is in the study of prehistory please refer to "Frontiers of Anthropology" (http://frontiers-of-anthropology.blogspot.com.au/2011/10/importance-of-jade.html). Dates of samples 40,000 to 50,000 years old are discussed.
In general Jade theories always suggest some kind of China-to-America trade but I am alleging quite logically that the absence of the highest quality Jade in China until 1500 AD suggests an America-to-China flow of trade. In other words the Americans did not trade away their "best" jade. Furthermore only the Ancient Americans always had the "best" ancient Jade and worked it to the highest degree of ancient skill with an extraordinary tool kit. Both Ancient Chinese and Ancient American jade items follow the same bizarre pattern of superior skills in their most ancient time periods.
Prior to recorded history there were groups of radically different hominids living simultaneously in various stages of ascendency and descent.
I am positing that an early form of brutal "racism" existed during this long period as the various hominids vied for the same environmental niche. Hideous battles took place for an extraordinary length of time. Such wars, battles and skirmishes ranged from every shade of evenly matched and unevenly matched conflicts. During these violent events the usual atrocities of rapes occurred as well as kidnappings, cannibalism and other shocking brutalities.
Our own Homo Sapiens category still exhibits the same and similar behavior today. Such behaviors are all essentially a type of racist ethnocentrism. But that is another story. Perhaps the most vicious ape,us,won these forgotten wars.
This last struggling group of Neanderthals was fast losing its grip on survival. Their destiny was to always remain totally outnumbered even in their final American homeland.
The Last Neanderthals had one important advantage: they were now far more intelligent despite their animalistic appearance. Their brain size was actually much larger than ours, plus they had new Homo Sapien genes infiltrating their gene pool and access to higher technology. They possessed both the preternatural instincts of the animal kingdom and technological skills.
Neanderthal's brain capacity of 1600 cm3 is notably larger than than the 1400 cm3 of modern humans. It can be argued this larger brain size created a temporary race of genius.
Such a highly intelligent group of hominids on the edge of extinction, and on the edge of the European continent, had no choice but to attempt a desperate dangerous sea journey to another even remoter location across the sea to another land.
The archaeological record of Middle and South America displays a bizarre mix of advanced technology combined with very primitive barbaric practices. This was a result of a small group of intelligent but primitive looking desperate settlers combining over time with the barbaric indigenous inhabitants of the Middle and Southern Americas.
If we separate the high technology from the barbaric qualities of the indigenous groups we can discern that the "Neanderthal's" principle technological advances revolved around pyramidal architecture, astronomy, mathematics, knowledge of metallurgy, and a fondness for and extraordinary ability to work with Jade stone. Hence it is safe to say that this unique group of "Neanderthals" had the equivalent technological skills of later Middle America, and that they were responsible for its introduction.
Portrait of a Were Jaguar Man.
The "Were-Jaguar" Men.
The mythology of this strange early Middle and South American culture often refers to "Were Jaguar" men and out of place bearded people living amongst them. This was the well known reason why they suddenly surrendered on seeing the bearded Conquistadors who they regarded as their Chief gods returning to rule over them. This belief was so entrenched in the indigenous inhabitants belief system that their conquest was just a formality. There is no need to dwell on this truism.
The mythology of the Were-Jaguar Men (and also Monkey-Men) specifically focused on caves as these men were said to be cave dwellers.
Every major temple site has in recent studies revealed an association with underground caves often situated directly beneath pyramids. All pyramidal structures have a "Russian Doll" construction: an original modest pyramidal structure was layered over time with larger and larger structures encasing each earlier form.
Our theoretical small group of experienced Neanderthals would have immediately discovered and sheltered in caves and then sealed the above ground entrances with simple solid stone impenetrable structures. These structures were impenetrable to the very primitive low tech local indigenous peoples. Hence they were able to establish themselves.
The caves in the Americas are some of the most extensive and interesting in the world. There are many caves in which circulating air acts as natural air conditioning, often to the point of creating ice! By entering known caves one can escape the tropical heat into a comfortable cool environment.
There is ample known evidence to show that the indigenous inhabitants were afraid to enter caves and built huts in the jungle much as they do today. The furtive occasional appearance of new Were-Jaguar men created added fears about entering caves.
Lighting in caves is also a problem. The Neanderthal immigrants solved this problem with unique techniques using rare light emitting Jade stone. The most precious Jade can actually create a dim glow in total darkness. All other light emitting stones do so only under exposure to artificial ultra-violet light (see below under "History of Jade").
Hardened by persecution and wary of others the new Immigrants had a difficult life at first, but by using their higher intelligence levels, were able to succeed.
Hunting and moving largely at night, and perhaps playing upon their new status as "gods", gave them certain advantages.
Interbreeding with captives caused further changes to their gene pool over the centuries until nearly all remembrances of their ancient past was eroded. That is except for startling occasional recurrences to their ancient gene pool which continues even to this day.
The History of Jade.
The dramatic occurrence of primitive genes resulting in Hypertrichosis was first recorded in the Americas. Rare examples are seen in the gene pool of China. This genetic abnormality points to an abrupt America-to-China directional migration or trade route at some point in ancient prehistory.
The other "Nineteenth Century" theory related to cross Atlantic migration also noted that there were certain extraordinary cultural similarities taking place on the Pacific side of the globe as well.
Scientifically speaking there is also proof that there was also a China-to-America migration of a much slower kind: "on foot". This is the traditional view.
Extraordinary and unexplained similarities to the very earliest Chinese Jade work and the Jade work from the early Americas do in fact occur. It has long been contended that the direction of contact was solely from China to the Americas.
However there may also have been a sudden meeting of cultures as well. Chinese verbal traditions state that the Chinese were living very primitive lifestyles until the Dragon Kings arrived by sea to bring them culture and the Knowledge of Jade! To this day Dragons are depicted as sailing on the ocean waves. This verbal tradition reinforces the idea that there were people with the ability to navigate the oceans.
Many modern archaeologists now take the possibility of prehistoric sea voyages very seriously. This particular topic of recent sea migration theory is beyond the scope of my current Hub. Suffice it to say here that the occurrence of the Dragon image in the Americas predates China's use of the image by thousands of years.
High workmanship of the earliest Jade in China shows a later decline before another resurgence after 1500 AD.
Why Jade? For all of man's prehistory prior to the age of metals the most highly sought after stone was Jade as it is stronger than iron. Jade axe heads were so tough they were capable of being passed down for many generations. It was highly prized by even the very earliest Hominids. The stone and its rare surface deposit sites spawned a prehistoric mythology that remained until recent history. The early hominid group who stumbled upon surface Jade deposits were able to increase their chance of survival. The rarest examples of such stone emit a dim light in total darkness thus enabling a fortunate Hominid group the luxury of deep penetration into cave systems. This gave important added protection from predators and other tribes. It caused an exponential increase to survival chances. It also explains how deep cave paintings were done in total darkness (an unexplained mystery as there are no carbon deposits from flame torches in caves that contain art)
Later Jade retained its mythological status even after the introduction of metal.
Jade is a very difficult stone to find and to work. Only a form of early high technology makes the working of jade practicable. This skill was only available to the most advanced "people". Until this early technology was available Jade was used solely for axe heads which were laboriously worn down into rough shapes (but still very highly prized).
Our Neanderthal mixed race had the more advanced technology to work Jade. Chinese verbal tradition supports the sudden importation of Jade technology and civilized culture by another race who arrived by sea.
The highly advanced technology found in the early Americas is totally at odds with the very barbaric civilizations that rose and fell there until the 1500's AD. Jade in the Americas was merely often recycled and the technology to work it had long been lost by the time of the Conquistadors. The American myths also credit visitors (bearded) who brought culture and the knowledge of Jade with them: these accepted truths suggest that migration occurred into the Americas from the Continent and then on into China. It is just difficult to accept as there is an often assumed migratory evolution completely at odds with this.

Andrew Petrou (author) from Brisbane on November 13, 2017:
Jade was the "metal" before metals came into use. I believe that period of use went back to pre humans so we are talking about a million years.
C E Clark from North Texas on November 13, 2017:
Very interesting, and fascinating, as previous commenters have said. I didn't realize that jade had so many uses -- and practical uses too.
Kari Poulsen from Ohio on September 06, 2017:
Very interesting information. I'm going to read the jade link you gave now. :)
Andrew Petrou (author) from Brisbane on March 04, 2015:
Just read today a news item breaking that National Geographic has announced a new site in Sth America that has evidence of so called were jaguar/monkey men. Quite a coincidence! The myths of this region claims monkey men kidnapped tribal women. Later these descendants were hunted down etc.
Leslie McCowen from Cape Cod, USA on March 04, 2015:
I once saw a show on PBS of a tribe in Mongolia....light black skin, with Chines features. Gorgeous.
Also read of Thoth, who allegedly spread Pyramid culture all over the globe.
We have it in us to be great.....why we always settle for Barbaric, god only knows.
Andrew Petrou (author) from Brisbane on March 02, 2015:
Thanks Mel. Jade has a fascinating history. I am most fascinated with its prehistory and use by "people".
Mel Carriere from Snowbound and down in Northern Colorado on March 02, 2015:
Very interesting information on Jade and the Neanderthal people. I was unaware of the strength and uses of jade. Interesting hub!
