There are times when you will feel the need to take a break from these electronic gadgets. This period is known as “Digital Detoxification” or simply “Digital Detox”. Following are some good habits that will help you to stay productive and healthy as well: -
1. Get close to Nature
Early mornings are the best time to relax and spend time with yourself in nature. Being a morning person is the first step toward productivity. You have ample time to complete the tasks you have planned for that day. You can utilize this time in the following activities: -
- Brisk walking or jogging regularly for an hour has many advantages. Besides, sunlight during this time is an excellent source of Vitamin-D for the human body.
- Yoga, meditation, and Pilates are also some great exercises to stay healthy. Deep breathing is known to improve immunity and increasing energy levels, calm anxiety, encouraging regular sleep cycles, etc.
- If you love gardening, you can also try organic farming. It will increase your knowledge about seasonal flowers and vegetables, the type of fertilizers used, etc.
Pro-tip: - When planning to visit a nearby shop or super-market, go for a walk or ride a bicycle instead of driving a motor vehicle. Increase your target every week, for example, 500 meters in the first week, then 1 km for the second week, and so on.
2. Practicing Gratitude
Scrolling aimlessly through social media for hours is not just a waste of time and energy, but it also results in resentment and depression. You may come across some posts where your loved ones had been enjoying and having fun and chances are you will feel disappointed with your life. Practicing gratitude refers to being thankful for what you have instead of complaining about things that you don’t have. Sometimes, it is important to let things go rather than living in the “Fear of Missing Out” (FOMO).
Pro-tip: - You can maintain a gratitude journal or just dedicate a page in your bullet journal for expressing gratitude after preparing your monthly spread. Every day, write down "what are you grateful for?".
The Life-changing Power of Gratitude
Reading is considered one of the most productive activities that people do in their leisure time. If you love reading novels (irrespective of the genre), note down new words, and find their meaning. This habit will not only increase your vocabulary and fluency but also boost your self-confidence.
Pro-tip: - Solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles will challenge and sharpen your brain. Joining the dots to complete a picture, spotting the differences are other great options to make your day interesting as well as productive.
Writing is a great means of communication. You can convey your message or feelings to yourself or others through letters, emails, and blogs. Maintaining a daily writing habit is also known to increase memory. Reading will increase your knowledge and awareness. In the same way, your passion for writing will help you reach your target audience, build trust and consequently, your writing skills will become a great source of income. Other forms of writing include academic writing, legal writing, white paper, research paper, etc.
Expressive journaling is a form of free-writing where one can pen down their emotions in a journal/diary. When dealing with negative emotions, try to find the reasons behind these reactions. This results in mindfulness and boosts self-esteem.
Pro-tip: - Maintaining a daily writing habit is a consistent effort that produces fruitful results. Write something every day even if it is 500 words. You can also set up a timer for 15-30 minutes.
5. Planning a Self-care Regime
Self-care is the first step toward self-love. You must invest some time in taking care of yourself. A hectic life routine ultimately leads to stress and this could take a toll on your skin and overall health. You can consider the following suggestions:
- Taking a hot water bath will help to relax the muscles of the body.
- A proper skincare routine to follow that involves cleansing, toning, and moisturizing before hitting the bed.
- A visit to a beauty parlor or spa during the weekends.
- A healthy sleep cycle of 8 hours.
- Regular health check-ups and appointments with the doctor.
6. Cleaning and De-cluttering
A clean home means fewer distractions. Tidying up things won’t be a herculean task when done with proper planning. The same goes for de-cluttering. You can assign/delegate some tasks to your family members or roommates. Remove all the stuff that you haven’t used for more than two years because you will probably never use them again. You can also donate stuff to needy people.
The “KonMari Method” was invented by a Japanese organizing consultant, Marie Kondo. In this method, you have to clean up your things by category, not by location. You can start with the clothes first, followed by books and other things. Keep only those things that give joy to you and discard things that bring bad memories.
7. Pursue a Hobby
There are times when you desperately need to take a break but your work commitments keep you engaged for a long duration. During your spare time, you can indulge in leisure activities such as drawing, painting, calligraphy, embroidery, etc. You can also create handcrafted items for your loved ones.
8. Spend time with your Family and Friends
Due to your hectic schedule, you may hardly find any time to interact with your family members. You should dedicate your weekends to your loved ones. Some great ideas include: -
- Organizing a family dinner at home.
- Planning a picnic with your friends or family.
- Visiting a zoo, museum, or a fun park.
- Playing board games with family members.
- Planning a beach vacation.
You can track most of these activities using a habit tracker in your journal. They will cultivate good habits in the long run. Moreover, having an accountability partner will greatly help you in achieving your goals.
