The Little Man In the Map: With Clues To Remember All 50 States by E. Andrew Martonyi - Book image is from amazon.com.

The Little Man In the Map: With Clues To Remember All 50 States by E. Andrew Martonyi is another great book we used while studying all 50 states. It includes fun ways to remember each of the states. A story is given as a mental picture to help you remember which state is which. It provides fun rhymes and mental pictures, like one state being a mitten, one a boot, etc. Also look for the similar book on state capitols: The Little Man In the Map Teaches the State Capitals! by E. Andrew Martonyi.

Cooking Across the 50 States

I LOVE incorporating cooking into our lessons! It combines multiple senses to enhance learning and long-term retention. Plus, it's just plain fun! About once a week while my children and I were studying the States of the US, we cooked something regional.

American Grub - Eats for Kids from All Fifty States by Lynn Kuntz - Book image is from amazon.com.

American Grub - Eats for Kids from All Fifty States by Lynn Kuntz - Book image is from amazon.com.

I used American Grub - Eats for Kids from All Fifty States by Lynn Kuntz the second most. It gives a short background about each state with a focus on its history and food. It then provides an easy recipe related to that state. A few examples include Louisiana Gumbo, Nebraska Cornhusker Burgers, Oregon Cherries and Cream, and South Carolina Grits.
