In our colorful World we can see animals of any color. I picked the blue to make a list of animal pictures for no special reason or perhaps because I love the sea and the blue sky.
When I was choosing the pictures I was astonished by the beauty of animals, most of them that I had never seen. They are from all around the world and there are several reasons for this awesome blue body color. Blue animals are beautiful and cute!
Pictures are from Wikimedia Commons
- Animals can display the blue color all year around or only for some periods as the mating season or camouflage.
- Bluebirds are not exactly blue, this striking color, results from light reflexion. It's also this kind of reflexion that makes us see blue butterflies and iridescent ladybugs.
- Mosquitoes are attracted to the colour blue twice as much as to any other colour.
- Owls are the only birds who can see the colour blue! All other birds can’t see this color.
- Fish have striking colors as blues, reds and yellows because of the way they see their world around. Different colors, patterns and shapes are used to recognize others and, sometimes, scare them away.
- The Lingcod isn't the only fish with blue-green meat. Other greenlings, like the rock greenling and the kelp greenling, are sometimes tinted turquoise, as is an unrelated sculpin called the cabezon.
- Some animals, like lizards and giraffes, have blue tongues.
