My Crystal Anniversary

For 15 years I've written here -
my crystal anniversary.
Oh, what a wild ride it has been,
though my motives far from mercenary.

HubPages was my online home,
and so many friends were made.
I also honed my writing skills,
and a good foundation laid.

I've never made a fortune,
payout took months, not days.
Though money isn't everything
it's helpful in some ways.

I used it as my resumé,
a portfolio of my work.
As a freelance writer,
This was its major perk.

It's hard to recognise today
as the platform it once was.
The only constant though, is change,
but it's sad what we have lost.

We had supportive colleagues
who encouraged and inspired.
But most have gone their separate ways,
or from writing have retired.

Some long-time hubbers are still here,
though they write much less these days.
Advertising spoils our work,
and I don't know what niché pays.

Some still frequent the forums,
though those numbers too are down.
Forever hopeful things may change,
and fortunes turn around.

I'm still in touch with friends from here
on Facebook and other sites.
But I will keep a presence here
until they read last rites.
