Actually The Sex Hubs is a little bit of a misnomer. True enough the subject rears its head ever so slightly in these hubs, though often the word does not. There are no hubs here with pornographic content, there is nothing that would make a maiden aunt blush.
The Sex Hubs is a list of HubPages written by myself about subjects I am familiar with. They make up just a small (but important) percentage of the total hubs written. I wrote them because I thought people may be interested. I was right, because these hubs are amongst the most visited of all the articles I have written. I wrote to inform, to educate, to instruct, to guide, and to voice an opinion. There was never an intention to shock or pollute.
I followed the guidelines. I am no pornographer nor do I have any wish to be. The articles, at their worst, are less offensive than those one would find in the average British newspaper. They don't link to anything worse and do not contain any upsetting images.
And yet I do not earn a penny from any of these HubPages. The Sex Hubs are devoid of anything but a token non renumerative advertisement. I have tweaked the articles. Changed words and phrases and removed some. It has not made the slightest difference. It is also a little odd that some of my other Hubs like The Much Maligned Sex Tourist, The Night Butterflies of Bali and Bar Girls which are in the same genre (though equally inoffensive) are not included.
Perhaps what I find most annoying is that on some other HubPages, written by others, I have seen Google Adsense Ads for "The Only Free Porn Site" and "Women For Sex". Naturally I did not click on these and would take offence should they appear on any of my Hubs. It does seem odd though that I can write sensitively on a subject and yet be, in effect, penalised.
It will be of interest to see if this hub itself will be garnished with adverts or remain naked as the day it was written.
If inclined please look through the Sex Hubs below....but please comment on this hub should you do so. I will be interested to learn others opinions as to exactly what it is that I have done wrong and how I may right it without losing the traffic I already enjoy.

I understand prejudices too. I am open minded but opinionated and always learning.
A Foot Note
I first published 'The Sex Hubs' on the 14th May 2010. Some little time later I wrote to Hubpages asking that someone take a look at my hubs and review them. As of the 19th June 2010 I have not received a reply....But
For a very brief period 'The Sex Hubs' actually had a few adverts appear. They have since gone. No explanation. I made no additions or removals. Some of the other hubs had adverts appear in the interim. I thought, great, an actual person is reviewing things and seen the error of the filters ways. It was only a short duration thing because today this is how we stand.
The Soapy Massage : No changes. No adverts. Nothing.
The World of the Kathoey and Ladyboy : Now I have a warning message (see below). I did not have it before. Again I have made no changes and still cannot see anything which is remotely offensive.
Prostitutes, The Worlds Oldest Profession - Again. No changes. No adverts here either.
Breakfast and Virginity - Nothing. Still no adverts on this simple little observation of a news item. Nothing offensive in the story at all.
Cherry Girls - Again there was for a very brief time some adverts. These just came and went. No explanation. The article is factual, informative and inoffensive.
Virtual Sex Is Coming - No change.
The Oil Massage - No change. I thought some adverts appeared...but they are not there today.
Rent a Date - WOW! Yes we have adverts here now. I have not added or removed anything.
Sex For Sale - No changes here either except I have picked up a warning (as above). I did not have one of those before. I think perhaps I may make a change to the photo choice and see if it makes a difference. I still believe the text to be educational and informative.
An Extremely Erotic Experience - No change here. Nothing. Any computer filter programme which can find this offensive is very sick indeed.
Mistresses - Still no adverts. This is actually beyond understanding. What could possibly be offensive here?
The warning message again. It was not there, neither were the others, till I asked Hubpages to look at my Hubs. Two photographs, no undress, no bad words, no profanity. Nothing to make a maiden aunt blush and yet....why oh why?
Porn Braille - Nothing. No adverts. Can you believe it? I can't. Just what is offensive?
Compensated Dating - Nothing. No adverts.Again I cannot believe anyone anywhere could take offence at anything here.
PREVIOUSLY - As I mentioned above the hub Bar Girls had adverts. It no longer does. I made no changes to it. This suggests to me that after I pointed it out in the earlier part of this hub that someone took a look at it and decided on stopping the ads. I don't think a computer filter programme would be retrospective unless I made a change...and I didn't! The word 'sex' does not appear in the hub at all and the youtube video has stopped working for some reason. I cannot see anything offensive. Today, 19th June 2010 I am going to replace the video with a photograph and remove the few links to my other hubs and see what happens.
Monday 28th June 2010
Some sort of problem in my browser led me to access my HubPages in Google Chrome. Interesting! In statistics it stated that:
had all had ads disabled. What? Only three? This cannot be correct because this hub 'The Sex Hubs' still has not had its ads return.
On checking I found that Bar Girls, Compensated Dating and Mistresses all had a single colour click on advert placed way down the page under suggested Tags. 'Breakfast and Virginity' had two adverts. Huge amounts of blank white space on these and the others where adverts would normally be. 'Rent a Date....which on last check had been given ads was now, like the others, down to a single ad.
Many of the others have the little sign 'ads by YieldBuild....but no ads. Could YieldBuild possibly be the censor?
I thought I would look at some other sex related hubs. Some, like this were devoid of adverts. One which discussed 'multiple and squirting orgasm' had 3 large click on colour adverts and two blue Google adverts. In fact without much effort I found half a dozen hubs that were far more sex related than any of my 'Sex Hubs' and all of those had adverts.

Thanks Rachael...I can see I will have to review this hub once again. It now has ads. I will check through the others.
Your 'sex hub' is still there. I have read it and voted up. It is excellent. Thanks.
Naomi Starlight from Illinois on May 26, 2011:
I have one called Sexualities: Prejudices and Misconceptions but I'm not sure if it's still allowed to be up. They have strict censorship on here that I'm not entirely happy with, but at the same time I don't want porn or sexual ads on my pages either.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on March 04, 2011:
Pamela - You are right it is very curious and I will never fully understand it. I have had two hubs removed now. One of these was on line with ads for more than a year and then removed. Sad.
Pamela N Red from Oklahoma on March 03, 2011:
It happens in other places too. I had trouble on my blogger account so I started a Dewytulips dot com site. What's strange is that I have ads there. I think if it's considered an adult only site then it's okay.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on November 27, 2010:
dawnM - I am glad I am not alone.
Dawn Michael from THOUSAND OAKS on November 27, 2010:
Yes, mine are banned on a regular basis, I had no idea that talking about sex in marriage being a marriage counselor was pornographic.....lol
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on September 25, 2010:
It is a crazy situation brettb - Just three days ago I had one of my hubs unpublished. A pointer to the rules but no explanation as to what was/is wrong. I abide by the rules. I am not a pornographer and have no desire to be one. This particular now unpublished hub had been up and running and unaltered for more than a year!
brettb from London on September 25, 2010:
Just had one of my hubs show up as "ads disabled" even though it's been here for 4 months! There's nothing bad on the hub but we all know that people who write automatic content filters think they're cleverer than they are.
It's even more proof in my eyes that this place is getting as bad as Squidoo as far as the people who actually write the content go.
This particular hub will be unpublished and put on my own site - if it does well there then its peers will follow...

vietnamvet68 - I continue to try and puzzle the logic. Maybe one day I will work it out. Thanks for reading.
vietnamvet68 from New York State on September 08, 2010:
Peter Dickinson, now I don't feel so bad as I have had all the advertisements pulled from my Poem as well, Go figure.
I like your hub myself and see nothing wrong with it.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on June 19, 2010:
Money Glitch - Thank you for your comment. You know I would not mind so much if a real person could point out to me where I was/have gone wrong and I would correct it. Some of my hubs are very popular with huge traffic and yet I make not a cent. I share your frustration.
Money Glitch from Texas on June 19, 2010:
I have a couple of hubs that are going through the same problems. One you've already read on Vitamin Supplements to Boost Sex Drive of which I wrote about three weeks ago. It was flagged immediately and ads taken off, got it reviewed by HP and ads put back on, and now ads are off again; and HP will not turn them back on.
Very frustrating because it has become a very popular hub with lots of views and even has had a 100 hubscore for days at a time. I did not know that you control the type of ads through adsense. I'm going to have to look into that. Well at least I see others are sharing the pain of Google, HP, or where ever the problem is.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on June 10, 2010:
Thanks lotuslove19 - actually I tried the same thing but it made no difference at all. Look at 'The Soapy Massage' it does not mention sex at all. I cannot get my head around any aspect of it being offensive to anyone. It is factual and informative and yet it has never ever had an ad. I have tweaked the wording a couple of times too. It gets a lot, a real lot of visitors but I have never earned a penny from it.
Sarika Mehra on June 09, 2010:
I wrote about the sexually transmitted diseases and google blocked the adds ,so as I removed the word sex from my hub they started showing adds ,which means it is not manually disabled its automatically feeded to block the adds when those kind of words come by.
lmmartin from Alberta and Florida on June 05, 2010:
Come and visit the debate on this very issue. I started this hub in order everyone will have a place to gripe. Here is the link https://hubpages.com/community/Hubpages-The-censor... I too have had all my hubs on child sex abuse (I worked in child protection for 30 years) flagged. So yes, I think you should drop by and join in. You're far from alone.
And there is nothing remotely obscene or offensive about your articles. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts in the great debate. Lynda M. Martin

Hello, hello - I am just hoping that one day a Google Adsense 'Human' will take a look and then press the right buttons.
Hello, hello, from London, UK on May 18, 2010:
Hello, Peter, I fully agree with in every way but as they say it is no good running against a brick wall. That is their opinion, that is how they see it and they won't change but they got the power and stop you. I wouldn't like to see such a good writer being band.

Dear Mr. Dickinson : Everything you write is in good form. Everyone knows this. I look forward to reading all of your hubs eventually. And I was honored that I saw you as my fan one day. Thank You and God Bless You.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on May 16, 2010:
Thank you for reading and checking out the 'sex hubs'. The word 'sensitive' has been used before. I write about subjects which I care about and never intend to offend. Sadly I do at times but if I can start a train of thought it is no bad thing.
Lee A Barton from New Mexico on May 15, 2010:
Fascinating! I had no idea. Though I love Hub Pages, this is something that disturbs me. I checked out some of your "sex hubs" and, as you said, found nothing offensive or pornographic--but much that was sensitively written and interesting.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on May 15, 2010:
H P Roychoudhury - Thank you. Pleased to be of help.
H P Roychoudhury from Guwahati, India on May 14, 2010:
It is good to know all about.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on May 14, 2010:
Hello, hello - thanks again. For me it is just a case of sitting down and writing. The subject may have just whizzed into my head or thought about for days. I would never write about something objectional. This is why I object that I should change to suit because there really is nothing wrong there in the first place.
Hello, hello, from London, UK on May 14, 2010:
Peter, you are such a good writer and again the way you handle this was elegant and tasteful. Apparently, Google or somebody is taking offense. Maybe they don't take the time to read it but just look at the heading. I would say why chance it and cut your own throught. Just stay away from that subject. I know somebody on the hub writes and post pictures which I really object. I am surprised they don't cut it out. I saw it times and times again. Yet, everybody praises the hub and the writer. The writer is a very good writer and don't need to do this. But as they say that's life.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on May 14, 2010:
justom - Thank you. Liberal minded or not though I just cannot see where offence could be caused.
Peter Dickinson (author) from South East Asia on May 14, 2010:
Aya Katz. No...I have not turned ads off. I can't believe that you would be penalised for any ad that Google placed on your hubs. You can choose what not to display by going into adsense.... but what is actually displayed should relate to what you are writing about and it is google who decides.
Hubs like this one which are to all intents and purposes harmless only get the 'Microfinance empowers' and similar ads which are sadly useless. The Hub has been 'censored' by a computer programme and there does not appear to be any way round the problem.
I don't know how much difference it would make if it were voted up.
justom from 41042 on May 14, 2010:
I think the hubs are fine, of course I'm of a very liberal mind. I find violence to be far more offensive. Those who choose to do things that are of no harm to anyone, more power to them. Keep on writing those hubs. Peace!!
Aya Katz from The Ozarks on May 14, 2010:
Peter, there are no ads on this hub. Did you turn them off yourself? I had to turn off ads to one of my hubs, which was not about sex, but was about censorship. Google placed an ad about porn on the hub, and I got scared that I would get penalized for it.
