The Good Thing About 'Non Featured' Items on Hubpages

Wipe Your Tears

You've written an article. You have put in images, you've broken it into capsules, in fact, you've done everything right.

It is published.

A few days later you get that nasty; "A friendly heads up" email. You r article is accused of having 'spammy elements' or your writing being substandard.

At first your article might be followed by a half coloured circle at the far right. If you don't do what ever it is 'required' it is now...a white circle and your Article is Unfeatured!

Yeah, I know

You tried to write a quality item. You've put in links to sources or to other items you wrote which connect to this one.

Maybe you've posted a book and link one chapter to another, or use a term in one chapter and refer to it, by link, to where you first mentioned it.

You think this is great.

You think of hard copy books you've read where a name pops up and you can't place it, and would love if you could 'click' on it and be taken to the chapter where it was first stated.

You bless the Internet for allowing you to link articles together, so that if you refer to "The Boss From Hell", you can link it to the article you wrote about the Boss From Hell.

Forget it!

You can't link anything anywhere!

You can't link to a source to a previous item, nothing. Cause the A.I. will name that a 'spammy element' and your work will be Non-Featured!

That's right.

Using the tools of the Internet on Hubpages is a one way ticket to having your article made invisible.

Don't try to discuss, argue, explain. The A.I. doesn't respond to humans.

Understand that on Hubpages you can have absolutely no links whatsoever at any time regardless of how important or useful they might be.

Bold? Italics?

I know that setting something off in Bold Type or Italics is a standard. One may put a name in Bold or Italics, one might emphasis a point in Bold or put conversation in italics.

It is standard, it is acceptable but NOT ON HUBPAGES!

Any Bold word, any word in Italics will get you that infamous..."Spammy Elements" email and your item will be non-featured.

So run in there and get rid of all your bold and italics. Or else!

Re Doing the Item?

Okay. I get the thing with Amazon. Unless you are selling the product using your article as the advertisement, you will be slapped down.

And I get that an item your wrote in 2012 might need a bit of sprucing in 2017.

Sometimes you take a glance at an old item and notice that you've put in links or bold or italics or Amazon products, and it's not much effort to remove the Amazon ad, the links, the bold and italics.

In some cases, this is enough to get your item 'Featured'.

In some cases.

For in others, you can rewrite until your fingers bleed. And it will Never be Non-Featured.

That's right.

Whether the A.I. hates you, whether Jupiter is in a bad position to Neptune, your article will never be featured.

And I say... Fine!

When you have an older item which can use a bit of rework, and you have time and want to rework it, go ahead.

When you rework an item, pulling out all the clever links and bolds and italics and Amazon products and it is still non-featured, well, you've wasted your time.

It is as simple as that.

It is not that a human is reading your work and finding the 'errors', it is that some pre-set A.I. has been set to respond to certain things.

So here's your item, non-featured, meaning Invisible.

You see where I'm going?

Here's What You Do

A site,( let's go back in time and think of Bubblews) pops up.
You don't know if it's legit or not.

You join and what do you do?

You take your Non-Featured items on Hubpages, mince them so a 1k word piece is made into four or five items.

Don't bother to remove the item from Hubpages. It is Non-Featured... that is, it doesn't exist.

Hence, You take that item, leaving it as is/where is on Hubpages, and you post it on Bubblews.

Now that you've posted shards of your Hubpages items on Bubblews and have gotten paid, you are far ahead of the game.

That Bubblews doesn't pay the second or third time; well... so?
Neither does Hubpages.

When the Bub went down, you Lost nothing.
Because the articles are still non-featured on Hubpages.

A new site comes up, and there you go again, posting shards of your Non-Featured Hubpages.

See the brilliance?

Firstly, you aren't wasting space on your computer holding items, they are being stored on Hubpages.

Secondly, by keeping non-featured articles on Hubpages, you have an easy directory to find them and use them.

Thirdly, no rip off site can rip you off because what you post there and earn from is still on Hubpages. Yes, it isn't earning a cent on Hubpages, but it is still there to be used again and again and again.

Storage Plus

When you write online you always want to be that step ahead of the sites where you post your work.

If they try to steal your copyright... well hey! That item was submitted to Hubpages in 2013 and you posted it on Rip Site in 2015. So they can't have the copyright. And you can prove it.

By using Hubpages as storage you can easily find a piece you wrote way back when and use it elsewhere.

Sure, between 2010 and 2020 you had three different lap tops. So everything on those dead laptops is gone..(or will cost you an arm a leg and your favourite kidney to retrieve) from those dead laptops.

If you posted them on Hubpages and they are non-featured, you are good to go.

Many times an item 'non-featured' on Hubpages becomes a money earner elsewhere.

Sometimes you are turning a story you wrote on Hubpages into a novel and your computer crashes and dies.

But the story is still on Hubpages!

Sure, you can try to get your item moved from 'non-featured' on Hubpages, but in at least 50% of the time, after all your work, it is Still non featured.

So don't be upset.

Copy and paste.

Most Hubbers earned their $ on Bubblews and other pay once sites using shards of Hubs. Used them on Expertscolumn, on Blogjob on Literacybase, on and on.

Just wait, another new site will pop up any day now, and you can load it with your non-featured Hubs.

No work, no fuss, and you'll probably be paid.

At least that First Time.

If you want to prove me right all you have to do is 'fix' a 'non-featured' item. It may be up two days or so, then down again.

Didn't you remove all 'spammy elements?'

Didn't you turn your article into a cartoon with big images?

Didn't you correct any misspellings or grammatical errors and 'update?"

Of course you did.

Reality? Hubpages DOESN'T WANT TO PAY. If 'only you' can see the item, well they don't have to pay!

Got it?

When I get the 'spammy elements' email the bold, the links are part of the 'spammy'. Amazon.. yeah, I mentioned that. Look, you can be hear for ten years, (I have) and you'll find out why I am not breaking my nails to write for this site.

Bev G from Wales, UK on August 16, 2017:

This is pretty ill-informed. 'Spammy elements' doesn't refer to bold text, it refers to Amazon products that aren't fundamental to the topic of the hub, and unrelated or unnecessary links.

"Most hubbers earned their $$s on Bubblews..." I don't think so. You might want to do a survey or something before making sweeping generalisations.

qeyler (author) on July 03, 2017:

I know that which is why I wrote: "When the Bub went down, you Lost nothing.

Because the articles are still non-featured on Hubpages"

Shelli Godinho from Ontario, California on July 03, 2017:

They have shut down the site

After being up and running for almost 3 years now we regrettably need to inform you that we will be shutting down. The climate for display advertising has drastically changed and made it impossible for us to sustain the business model and operations.

We want to thank everyone that was a part of this journey. We wish you all the very best.

qeyler (author) on July 03, 2017:

And as an aside; if you want to publish an already published item on Hubpages elsewhere, just pop in some 'spammy' elements. If you time it right, you'll be unfeatured in a few hours and be able to publish elsewhere.
