How To Keep Your Hub Page Followers

Here's a "head's up" on what to buy and which products to skip when shopping at the Dollar Store. Not everything is priced at one dollar.

Your Followers Deserve The Best Of You

Our Hub Page followers are the beating heart of our community. It's a bit of a let-down when we lose one of our followers. So how do we keep these loyal fans? What exactly do we owe our Hubpage followers? We owe them the best we have as a writer. We owe them as much time and research as it takes to do the job well. This includes re-reading our hubs and doing some editing, if needed, before hitting that publish button.

Realizing that time is a premium and we may not be able to do all of the following, you may select just one or even two on the list provided below:

  • Leave a comment on hubs after you read them. This is both professional as well as personal and helps build a relationship.
  • Return the kindness as often as you can by visiting the hubs of those who comment. Again, this can be time-consuming if you have a large list of comments. Do it anyhow.
  • Send fan mail once in a while (not to the same person.)
  • Share others hubs.
  • Send an email of appreciation. This is especially important if you have something personal to say.
  • Send an "I miss you" email to those who don't come around anymore.
  • Remember a birthday.
  • Use Facebook and Twitter to further share hubs and keep in contact with followers.
  • Develop and nourish relationships.

Be kind to your followers. If you have a suggestion on how they might improve their hub, send them an email.

Why Followers Are Important

I truly appreciate each and every individual that follows me. Some have been with me for six years. Others have became friends and loyal followers leaving words of wisdom for me in the comment section.

My followers have gifted me in the following ways:

  • I receive helpful feedback.
  • My confidence is increased through positive messages.
  • The support I receive is fulfilling.
  • Friendships are established.
  • Quite often a follower will share my hubs with others.
  • I love knowledge. I'm constantly learning something new as I visit a hubber's article.
  • My skills as a writer improve through reading hubs.
  • The personal care I receive from others is rewarding and uplifting.

I have to say that I have grown as a writer and a person through the example of my fellow writers.

Allow your personality to shine through for a deeper connection with your reader.

Allow your personality to shine through for a deeper connection with your reader.

Writing for Hub Pages is Therapeutic

Supporting your followers is a win-win situation. You give, and you get, in return. And you get even more than you give. The benefits are sometimes life-changing.

When I first began writing for hub pages I had just lost one of my two beautiful sons to cancer. It was through my first poem that I found a following of compassionate people right here on hub pages.

As I read through the comment section of my hub, I found a new strength within me, leading me in a new direction - taking me on a new, fulfilling and peaceful path. I thank God for those supportive and caring writers.

Writing has been proven to be highly therapeutic for me and it can be for you as well. When I need a diversion I start a new hub or do some editing on older, neglected hubs.:

Writing therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the act of writing and processing the written word as therapy. Writing therapy posts that writing one's feelings gradually eases pain and strengthens the immune system.

Killer Tips For The Writer

Use The Comment Section Provided on Hubs To Keep Your Followers

When you leave a comment you are validating the worth of not only what is written, but the worth of the writer himself. How powerful!

Make your comments count. Why do you like the hub? If you learned something new from the writer take time to share this in your comments. Maybe you were inspired. What about the hub inspired you?

If certain emotions or memories came up for you, share those too. Don't hold back. Your comments reflect who you are. If you're caring - it will show. If you're in a big hurry - that too will show...

What Do We Owe Our Followers?

Putting ourselves in the mind of our readers when creating content can help us to publish better articles. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before publishing:

  • How can my hub topic reach a wider audience?
  • Is my content clear and concise?
  • In what way can each reader profit from my hub?
  • How is my content unique in it's own sense?
  • Is my hub entertaining or "just the facts, mam"?
  • Have I planted a laugh somewhere in my hub (if appropriate?)
  • Why does one hub get more traffic than others?
  • Are my paragraphs short for easy reading?
  • Have I used words that the reader will understand?
  • Did I remember to summarize?
  • Why would anyone read my article?

If a person is going to take valuable time to read a hub, we have a responsibility to make it original, entertaining and useful.

So, what do we owe our followers?

Our best. . .our very best.

Thank you. This article has some good tips. Should lack of comments be viewed as negative feedback or par for the course? Have the opinions you've expressed in this article changed since you wrote the article?

You truly have reached a huge milestone! Congratulations VocalCoach. That is quite impressive in such a short time. I can certainly understand why with your caring nature.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your son. I had no idea. That is part of the draw here at HubPages, that we can escape our situations if even for a short while and enter a world of words and interact if we choose.

Quite soon you'll reach 1000 followers. I'm glad to have met you here.

I understand the excitement and also the disinterest from your son and your sister. I get the same response from my family as well when sharing my hubbing accomplishments.

I did not know that you lost a son. I am so sorry to hear that.

I enjoyed reading about all the benefits of writing. I did not know it boosted the immune system. I do agree that it improves and refines our writing skills.

I also have enjoyed the hub pages community aspect of this activity. I have received so much encouragement that has inspired me and I have been equally inspired and educated by fellow hubbers.

Blessed you are. Congrats on your 500th follow : )

Twilight Lawns from Norbury-sur-Mer, Surrey, England. U.K. on April 04, 2011:

I know what you mean about the kinship and making friends. I am basically a very introverted and selfish person who isn't really worried about others... I wouldn't deliberately hurt anybody, but that is about as far as it goes. But since being on HP I suddenly find that I have real friends who care if I'm low or not well, who encourage me and enthuse me; who are just there when needed. And for some reason that is a very new emotion for me, I care what they are doing; I worry if they aren't on HP for more than a few days; I am concerned when I discover that something in their private lives are not as they should be. And I am elated when all seems well for them.
