How does the Hub Page Score work

How do HubPages Calculate Hub Score

This Hub is in response to a Question I found on Hubpages Answers, which I see popping up all over the web.

Some people may think Hub Score is just a mystery number that HubPages decides to throw at your Hubs, but as Susan pointed out HubPages do in fact take into account a number of factors.

I consider the Hub scoring to be very similar to Google's Search Results, consider this. Someone is searching for "how to fix a computer" on HubPages. Now HubPages wants to return the most valuable results to the persons query so it will search through its database of hubs and find all hubbers that have written hubs containing the Keywords "How To", "Fix" and "Computer". This is very similar to Google's Search algorithm's. So the HubPages database returns thousands possibly millions of results, now how does it organise them into first to last position. That's when we start looking at the Hubs Score and the Hubber's Score for that matter.

Now the Hubs score will obviously depend on it's reputation just like the Google Pagerank system. So if you're Hubs have inbound links from a number of external pages (especially reputable ones possibly also with high Google page rank) then you are theoretically boosting you're Hubs reputation because others have linked to it (Note this can also boost your Hubs Google Page Rank which is also beneficial).

Then you get people finding your Hubs through Google or Hub Searches and they leave comments thanking you for your great articles and giving you thumbs up all this helps the reputation of your hubs.

Also if you are actively participating on HubPages this will boost your Hubber Score which can add to your reputation which in tern reflects on your Hubs Reputations. So if you have more users following you on HubPages this is more votes of confidence to your writing ability.

And of course as always with SEO, uniqueness of Content is King. Unfortunately its difficult to stop people from copying your content so how the search engines and HubPages determine who is the copier I'm not sure, perhaps they can detect the date of the Hub and the date of the copy and work out which was written first. I know Google often shows a date on Search results so it must record when it first detected the new post or hub or video.

Hope that answers some of your questions.
In summary it all boils down to Reputation, that is Reputation of your writing ability, Reputation of your Hubs Content, and Reputation of the links to and from your Hubs.

Great thanks for explaining the hubpage score

Just to clarify, Google judges the date of a document based on the date it first indexes that document. Once it is indexed, as far as Google is concerned, that is the original publication of that content.

If that content is found duplicated elsewhere, the duplicate will have an extremely hard time rising in search results.

This is why you want to ensure that you get Google to index your content first, if somebody comes along and steals your content before Google is able to establish you as the original creator, then you will become the duplicate content and you will have a difficult time rising above the "original."
