Francis M’s Kaleidoscope World – Music for Peace
A Hub for Peace
As I was thinking of what could I possibly contribute to Hub for Peace, Francis M. and his music came across my mind. Music as we all know is a way of communicating ones thoughts or feelings. Francis M., I think had used his music so well that he captured the heart and interest of his listeners. I’ll be hitting two birds with one stone in this hub. I can contribute to Hub for Peace and give tribute to the late Francis M.
Francis M., the Master Rapper
Francis Magalona or most famous with the name Francis M. started in showbiz industry as early as his teenage years. Joining show business was effortless since he was the son of the famous celebrity couple of the 40’s and 50’s, Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran but his fame didn’t came easy, until his career transformation in the 90’s. He surprised everybody with the song “Mga Kababayan” (My Fellow Countrymen) in his “Yo” album in 1990. He was the first Filipino rapper in the Philippines to cross over the mainstream. He was able to put together the Filipino Hip Hop, Rap, Funk and Rock into his music. He had influenced a lot of artist in that genre that had made him the “King of Philippine Rap”.
Later on, other than being an Actor, Rapper and Songwriter he also became a Producer, Director, Host, Entrepreneur and Photographer. He always had his nationalistic sense in every thing he does. He even made “3 stars and a sun” (as seen in the Philippine flag) as his trademark.
Francis M's Happy Battle
August of 2008 he was diagnosed with leukemia. He took everything as a happy battle and even made a journal of what he had been through all the while and made it known to public by means of his blogs. But when everybody thought he was regaining his health he passed away at the age of 44, this was after seven months of fighting for his illness.
Francis M’s Music for Peace
“Mga Kababayan” (My Fellow Countrymen) started it all, came after were a lot more music that inspires every Filipino in different ways. To prove this was numerous awards with regards to his music, he had also been featured in a number of international publications. After his death he was given the Presidential Medal of Merit. The award's citation noted that it had been given “for his musical and artistic brilliance, his deep faith in the Filipino and his sense of national pride that continue to inspire us.”
One of the Famous Song of Francis M, which I considered as his Music for Peace not just for the Filipino people but for the whole world is the Kaleidoscope World. Listen to the music and I strongly believe that you too will agree with me.
Kaleidoscope World as sung by the Philippine Idol Final 12
Kaleidoscope World Lyrics
So many faces, so many races
Different voices, different choices
Some are mad, while others laugh
Some live alone with no better half
Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse
Some are pure and some half-bred
Some are sober and some are wasted
Some are rich because of fate and
Some are poor with no food on their plate
Some stand out while others blend
Some are fat and stout while some are thin
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most
Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin' round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world
Some are great and some are few
Others lie while some tell the truth
Some say poems and some do sing
Others sing through their guitar strings
Some know it all while some act dumb
Let the bassline strum to the bang of the drum
Some can swim while some will sink
And some will find their minds and think
Others walk while others run
You can't talk peace and have a gun
Some are hurt and start to cry
Don't ask me how don't ask me why
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most
Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin' round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world

Just like in the Kaleidoscope, we the people in this world with different colors, different points of view, and different belief can create a beautiful, colorful world when we become one in our goal to have peace here on Earth.

To Francis M, may you Rest in Peace! I too believe that you Francis M., the Master Rapper is now in peace and that you are now wrapped up with the Master!
Peace everybody!
