So Sad For Syria

I took an interest in Politics at a very young age. The Goldwater-Johnson race fascinated me and I've been paying attention ever since.

If not us.....

So many questions, so much speculation, so many experts.

To be clear, I don't claim to be an expert, there are just some images that are almost impossible to get out of your head.

All that I can focus the carnage; lives torn apart, grieving Mothers and Fathers, crying children and scattered lifeless bodies; including, tiny crumpled bodies of toddlers and babies. What makes it even worse...this was done to them, not by outsiders, but rather by their own so-called Leaders!

It is beyond me, how so many people have tuned all of this out; their plight, the images, the order to remain steadfast in their opposition to and hate for Donald Trump!

All while making everything political, so eager to tear down our newly-elected President, that they'll dismiss the images of dead children.

It's not about what America should do or doing the right has become nothing more than a political hot topic:

  • Should President Trump have retaliated against Syria's leadership, after Assad's use of chemical weaponry?
  • Isn't the President constitutionally-bound to have Congress' authorization first?
  • Who are take this on?
  • Why even open this can of worms?

How can so many ignore these images, dismissing them altogether, perfectly content to remain in the neutral zone and incidentally, what kind of response is "Well Yes, but No"...what does that even mean?

It is horrific enough, when we see images of all the suffering which takes place after a natural disaster, wherever it may have taken place. We respond in the ways that we can; by keeping the victims in our prayers, by offering financial aid, by sending teams of doctors and nurses and clean-up crews and food and water.

By supplying whatever the need may be.

But, what about when it is an intentional act, an intentional targeting of innocents, by an evil Individual or by groups of evil Individuals, yes, we respond in the same ways, whatever the need may be and then we take it even further!

We respond with targeted Military action, sending a powerful message to all evil-doers, we are paying attention, these acts will not be ignored, they'll not be tolerated.

It is not within us, to remain neutral. It is not in our DNA.

When it is an intentional evil act that destroys all in its path....when it can't be blamed on something tangible; mother nature, disease, etc......when it cannot be justified in any way whatsoever...if we can intervene with effective pinpoint accuracy in order to make a statement, we absolutely should!

If not us.....

If not America...

We can't wipe out all Evil

Evil has always been and sadly, will always be, but when we are faced with such images and we have the ability to act in opposition, in a forceful, yet very precise manner, we should act!

In this case, our military was able to specifically target; the aircraft responsible for spreading the deadly gas. They were able to specifically target the airstrips which provided access, for carrying out this atrocity, all while keeping members of our military safe and all while keeping the Syrian people safe.

Who showed care and who showed compassion and who is not capable of either?

Yes, repairs will be made quickly. Yes they have other aircraft and true, evil can never be eradicated, but an in-their-face statement needed to be made and was made!

  • America will not ignore atrocities.
  • Standing by, doing nothing has never been our standard.
  • IF red lines are drawn, they will be monitored and if crossed, there will be consequences.
  • We will go it alone, if and when necessary.

Any time that a U.S. President hears from members of his Administration, experts that he has trusted enough to place in these positions, that there is a window, a moment of opportunity, a time to strike...the President must act.

We the People should not accept anything less... from our Commander-in-Chief.

If not America...

If not the U.S.A., who...

No sane person wants war -

I do not know of a single person that wants to go to war or that wishes our military to be put in harm's way.

The minute their boots hit the ground, that's exactly where they are harm's way.

When and if that can be avoided and our fighting men and women can be kept off the ground and still be effective, that's a Win-Win.

There was a window of opportunity presented to respond to a horrific act against humanity, they responded methodically and without hesitation and their mission was accomplished.

The actions of Syria could not go unchallenged.

If not America, who?

There is now chatter and speculation that Russia may have been an accomplice in the attack on Syria, at the very least, complicit.

If that turns out to be true..... we have a whole new ballgame!

The Syrian people have been attacked once again, by their own, via chemical weaponry!

My prayers are with the Syrian people.

No one is safe against Monsters, especially when they live among you.

Okay, got it...only Dems know what's going on, Reps just stand in the way of progress, but they are really in cahoots with each other. Everything is staged, nothing is real. It is all about 'starting' a war and then intentionally 'losing' that war, for in doing so... somebody will make a lot of money.

Alrighty then...have fun on the mothership. Tell Crazy Louis and Wrench I said Hey.

I'll keep both feet on the ground!

Congress and the US presidents have caused the decline of the US since the 70s. I keep saying this, and I get no response. My point is that both parties have kept us in wars, and we lost them all since 1898.

The last declared war was WWII, and if you want to use the constitution, how did we get the Patriot Act for over 14 years when there was no declared war.

War in the US has been beneficial to those companies that make and sell military products. War acts like a monopoly to disregard supply and demand, by artificially creating demand.

It wouldn't be so bad if we would win these wars, but we fail all the time. In most cases, our intervention has disastrous results. Like the invasion of Iraq in 2004.

911 was like Pearl Harbor a mechanism to create demand for war. The 8 years under Clinton were lean years for the war companies because Clinton for whatever reason didn't engage the bait.

Syria is not a strong enough bait for president Trump, but North Korea and Iran are because of the nuclear threat from these countries.

It will be like 9/12 2001, people will call for these countries to be taken down.

If we won the Korean War, N Korea wouldn't be a problem today. And if Carter handled Iran during the captive of US citizens, then we might not have a problem with Iran today.

But that is not how the US political parties see the world. They look to their money funders to chart their political terms.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that Obstructionism was more important to the Republican party than rooting out these chemical weapons. At least when a democratic president was in power.

You talk of the suffering children, but fail to recognize the policies that led to their suffering. Denying the ability to protect them, and then denying the ability to shelter them as refugees.

The only thing you're really allowing is vengeance. That's a pretty poor policy stance.

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida, USA on April 12, 2017:

I did not make this article about Obama. Lord knows, I could have placed him and his failed team right in the midst of it, but I did not.

Assad's hands are not clean! Putin's hands are not clean.

Yes this is all very complex, many battles are being fought. I know that.

This is probably going to really get your goat...but I am of the mindset of Ronald Reagan, we utilize strength (in those times when we can. Can't police the world) in order to have peace.

The Middle East is screwed up, no doubt!

There is evidence of an evil act perpetrated against innocent people, including their children. Their suffering is very real.

What about them?

Do we ignore this, pretend it didn't happen?

If not us, who then?

Ya'll seem to have all the answers.

JOC from Syracuse, NY on April 11, 2017:

You really need to get your facts right, Abwilliams. Obama went to Congress to do something, they denied his request. The Republican Congress did nothing, and that's a fact. So Obama tried to use diplomacy, but with his hands tied by Congress, the effectiveness of that relied upon Russia.

Ken Burgess from Florida on April 11, 2017:

The Syrian Military did not attack/kill with Sarin Chemical weapons.

Those to blame for this are 'rebels', and this was nothing more than a contrived excuse to attack the Airfield and destroy a couple of jet fighters, an act of provocation by the U.S. to stir up conflict not with Syria, but Russia.

Please take the time to research both sides of the matter as best you can, rather than accept what is told by you by only American News sources.

Its great that you want to stop evil, do away with the terror that has taken hold of the Middle East at large, but understand this... those pulling the strings in D.C. are the instigators of what is occurring now, and more importantly where it will lead.

There isn't a scenario where this stops with Syria... just like it didn't stop with Iraq, or Libya...

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida, USA on April 11, 2017:

Nice try, but we are all familiar with Obama's do nothing approach, when it came to Assad and chemical weapons.

We are also familiar with Susan Rice, John Kerry and Barack Obama, all telling us that Assad no longer had chemical weapons, so there was no reason to use force against him.

Maybe they were all just too trusting?

Now Assad has gone and done it again!

Apparently, evil people are not only capable of using sarin gas on their own people...even babies...they are liars and cannot be trusted!

Go figure.

JOC from Syracuse, NY on April 11, 2017:

This article completely ignores the cause and effect principle. When Obama went to a Republican-majority-led Congress in 2013 for the go ahead to use military force against Syria and remove Chemical weapons, he was denied. Their obstruction allowed Assad to keep his weapons.

Second, Mr. Trump denied Syrian refugees coming to the United States and then is shocked when so many are killed in a country with so much conflict. What did this idiot think was going to happen?

He could have taken action to prevent these deaths. As much as he may not want to be, he's complicit.

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida, USA on April 11, 2017:

Sorry Wrench...You'll need to take your anti American propaganda someplace else. Try the forums.

Not here, not today!

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida, USA on April 11, 2017:

So....I take it you escaped long ago and got far, far away from this h---hole?

Ronnie wrenchBiscuit on April 11, 2017:

This is a great article for anyone who is not abreast of current events, and who is unfamiliar with American history. America has been standing by and doing nothing for over 500+ years while criminals representing Colonialist and then later U.S. governments have raped, pillaged, and stolen everything that wasn't tied down. Operatives of the United States are behind the chemical attacks. This is the classic "problem/solution" technique that was used on 9/11. The goal is regime change in Syria, and the U.S. is prepared to do that by any means necessary. I am ex-U.S. military and served for 6 years. I have seen their evil up close and personal. They sold you a lie.
