30 Articles in 30 Days Writing Challenge

Why Should You Do a 30 Articles in 30 Days Challenge?

To get started, create a countdown list of why to begin a 30 day writing challenge. Here's my list:

  • 10. I need a boost right now as I am in between projects.
  • 9. I need to practice and perfect my writing.
  • 8. I enjoy a good challenge.
  • 7. I am motivated to write, so this is the perfect time for a writing challenge.
  • 6. Practice makes perfect.
  • 5. It’s a great way to start a new year.
  • 4. I have tons of notes, pictures, and ideas scattered on my desk, and I would like to organize them into hubs.
  • 3. There’s no time like the present.
  • 2. Just like athletes swim laps before the Olympics, writers need to write laps before writing books. I have several “large” writing projects in the works, so to prepare for the biggest challenge ever, whether that is running a marathon, swimming the English channel, or writing a bestselling novel, it’s important to train, train, train, in this case, by writing, writing, writing.
  • 1. What am I waiting for? I am finished procrastinating…full steam ahead!

Planning for the Challenge

To plan for my 30 articles in 30 days challenge, first, I made a list of potential articles.

I already had about 15-20 articles started with some notes for each, so part of my list was easy to create. For the remainder of my list, I referred to a big folder on my desk where I have been collecting ideas, pictures and notes for quite awhile….it was time to turn these into articles!

I decide that my first 3 articles would be holiday-themed. I also decided on several technical/computer related articles, as well as articles on foods/recipes, job searching strategies, finance, music, and lots more.

Make a Folder for Each New Article

For each new article, I created a folder on my computer containing the article number and article name/description. The folder was used to store each article in a Word document, accompanying images and any other related resource content for the article.

How To Avoid Having Thin Articles

If you create a challenge for yourself of 30 hubs in 30 days, to avoid having “thin” articles, it’s important to do a lot of planning, research and note compiling beforehand. My goal was to have as many stellar articles as possible, and as many “evergreen” ones as possible as well. I’ve been compiling notes and planning articles for awhile, and having a challenge forced me to stop procrastinating and start writing good, solid content for articles.

Set Your Start and End Dates

Once you have planned out what articles you will be writing and have done enough planning, it's time to select a start and end dates for your writing challenge!

Cheerleaders Needed!

To help support you during your 30 day writing challenge, spread the word to other writing, friends, family and everyone you can think of to cheer you on. When I started my challenge, I posted a message to other writers explaining what I was planning and I ask them to cheer me on! You will definitely need some cheerleaders, so the only way to get some is to spread the word and ask.

Hub Published: How to Create a Back to Top Link in a Hubpage Article

Inspiration for this hub: For lengthy hubs, I wanted a way to create Return to Top, or Back to Top links, which I sometimes create on lengthy HTML webpages. I couldn’t find a way to do this within a hub but then I saw link in the awesome SEO hub written by Writer Fox called WHAT IS SEO? | SEO Tips and Tutorial 2014. In this hub, Writer Fox created a table of contents at the top of the hub so you can easily jump to specific sections of the hub. I decided to experiment with how to do this. I also reviewed the forum called ”HELP! How do you create a link within a Hub?” created by TDowling, and then I was able to create my own links within a hub.

Hub Published: Catholic Mass Rituals With No Germ Control

Hubber Profile Score As of Today: 92

Inspiration for this hub: In recent past, especially in the cold winter months, when attending church, I noticed that the priests were no longer making announcements like they did in past, that it was either optional to shake hands to make the Sign of Peace during flu season, or that everyone was to refrain from the practice temporarily. I wondered why it wasn’t always recognized especially during the cold and winter season. As others coughed and sneezed, the uncomfortable part of the Mass would once again approach us. Do you shake someone’s hand to be respectful or just nod your head? I thought more and more about the practices of the Catholic Church and how there is no germ control. I wondered if I was crazy to suggest that hand sanitizers be installed in churches. What do you think?

I researched the band and discovered they were touring, and that’s when I decided to see their concert earlier this year. This hub article is a tribute to the band, America, their hit songs (like A Horse With No Name, I Need You, and Sister Golden Hair, and more) and pictures from the concert.
