100,000 Hits, 85 Hubs - The Story of My Nineteen Months' Stay in HubPages

It was a cherished dream to gain 100,000 hits for my online articles published in HubPages. Today ( i.e. October 30, 2013) I reached this milestone. It means my write-ups (Hubs) have been read 100,000 times. So far I got 12 accolades and I consider this one, the 100K Accolade just received as the ever best and most cherished one in my 19 months’ long hubbing activities.

The main anxiety of a hubber or blogger or any sort of online writer is how to attract visitors to his pages. When the net is flooded with millions of pages catering to various demands and interests, gaining a decent flow of viewers/readers is a task. You need to be an expert on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques to attract large traffic. But I must admit I am not an expert on SEO techniques. Still, I could gain a viewership of a handsome figure of 100,000. I never played with titles, tags, keywords or such kind of jargon we usually hear. I just simply wrote and provided supportive capsules. The maximum I did is sharing my hubs on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I always tried to ensure my hubs contain a text of minimum 700 words, a standard level often recommended by the fellow hubbers. I always tried to provide quality photos and videos in support of my text. Also, I followed a narrative style of easy comprehension.

I got a decent level of comments, followers and fan mails. I don’t know what attracted people to visit my pages. Maybe the factors pointed above. I am not sure. I know well that simplicity, beauty, and reliability are the essential ingredients for a good hub. What matters important is not the number of your articles but the quality. Quality alone wins the game.

Having said that, I don’t claim I am a great author. I will place myself in the basket of ‘Above Average’ category. I am from India, where English is our second or third language after our mother tongue. My first language (mother tongue) is Malayalam. I also know a little bit of Tamil and Hindi besides English. Naturally, we have our own issues related to English usage and communication. Still, we are doing our best to improve and perfect. I always welcome everyone to correct me. By now I got the help of good writers like WryLilt, Marie Flint, David Trujillo and Earl Noah Bersby. My sincere thanks to all of you dears.

I again request other veteran writers to guide me and provide me tips to improve further.

The real challenge of HubPages

By now I complete 19 months since I joined Hubpages. HubPages is a great resort for good authors and a large platform for the online writers. A major chunk of the writers and readers of HP comes from USA, UK and other English-speaking countries and counties. Obviously, they welcome only quality writing. They reject sub-standard stuff outright. So to sustain here and make a successful journey, one needs to work hard and be honest. In my initial period, I had several issues. I was totally blank and clueless on how to proceed then. Everyone writes quality hubs and publish in large scale. A lot of people take part in Forum and discuss many things. Besides writing, we need to learn a lot of things here. But the learning process was fine with the help of Learning Center and other supportive hubbers. The community is so joyful and helpful.

Do or Die Situation

For me, it was a DO or DIE situation. Fortunately, I took the first option: DO! What helped or encouraged me the most was the earning of some initial Accolades. It did boost my confidence level. A sudden splash of confidence filled in my otherwise fearful mind. What will you do when you face a panic situation? What will be your last resort in a do or die situation? I too did the same. I just prayed the God. I prayed sincerely. God, help this poor mortal to pen a few lines. Shower your blessing for him to grow and expand. And I was lucky. The God was ready to listen to my humble prayers. The result is what you see now on my Profile page: various accolades, each representing a small or big achievement.

When the God does his part decently, what one needs to do his part. Do your role neatly and honestly. I worked hard. Made a lot of research. Did a lot of homework. Intensified my reading habits, especially the fictions to improve my writing skill. I also made several journeys, all to give my readers some travel tips. All for a good cause- to write some decent hubs. I am proud to say that these all result in my performance reflected in my Accolades. By now, I have 85 hubs, of which 81 (95%) are featured. The only point I am disappointed now is the fall of my author score from a consistent range of 93-95 to below 80. As on date, it is 79. It was a sudden fall and several hubbers face a similar situation. So I am working hard to improve and my aim is to reach a score of above 90 soon.

My consistency, hard work, confidence, prayers, everything paid me richly. The earning of this most prestigious accolade for 100K viewership underlines the very fact. Now I am happy and confident. I thank all, who helped me to reach this stage. My next aim is to earn accolade for 10,000,000 viewership as early as possible. I hope I can achieve this too.

Before concluding this happy note, let me share my earning level also, though it is not much impressive. Last month I got my first payout of $ 56. I hope to reach the milestone of $ 100 next week. During this Christmas vacation, I will receive my 2nd payment. I am sad to note that eBay has stopped sharing revenue since this October. Though it was a paltry sum, they had given it regularly and almost daily. eBay’s decision has cut short my monthly income at least $ 5 to $ 8.

By the God’s grace, I have the energy and confidence to perform and perfect. I know I have miles to go. I am not a master but just a student and still learning more and more. Learning is a continuous process. It never ends. I thank all my followers, readers, supporters and critics for their kind support. I sincerely wish them best of luck and success.

To motivate all, let me extract a phrase from the famous book ‘You Can Win’ by Shiv Khera. Most people fail not because of lack of ability or intelligence but because of lack of desire, direction, dedication, and discipline. And I wish to add: Act and Achieve! Success is yours!!
