Job Hunting Online

The Internet is an amazing tool for unemployed hippies, bohemians, and free spirits.

Often, it's just a matter of knowing where to look. So in the next few sections of this guide, I am going to show you where to find the jobs. We will start with the big sites—the general job websites with every job under the sun. Then we will go into the "niche" websites that offer up specialized job listings and help based on a specific interest.

After that, we will go into the options for freelance workers and those of you who want to work online or work from home. Finally, some valuable resources and helpful websites can help anyone to succeed. Enjoy!

Before You Go Job Hunting . . .

Being prepared before you go on the hunt can make a big difference.

Things to Have Ready:

  • Résumé
  • Cover Letter (one general letter that can be revised slightly to fit the job you're applying for)
  • Entertainment Résumé (this could be very different from your more "official" résumé)
  • Headshot (for certain entertainment professions)
  • Portfolio (teachers, musicians, models, artists, designers, etc. need a portfolio)
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • College Transcripts
  • Copies of Degrees, Certifications, & Awards
  • List of References (personal & professional)
  • Copies of Published Work (for writing/editing jobs)
  • Website (for certain professions)
  • Email (if your email address is something like PrincessLAZYcakesXXX@aol.com, it may be better to get a more professional-sounding email. Gmail is great for professional emails)
  • Business Cards (especially if you are a freelancer, an entertainer of some kind, or you have your own or are starting your own business)
  • Comp Cards (actors and models)
  • Multi-Media Presentation

Get Inspired and Stand Out!

Make sure that your résumé, cover letter, and business cards stand out from the crowd by making them very personalized. Don't always use the guides and templates. Think outside the box.

Thank you so much for sharing amazing post. keep sharing.

Jen on February 27, 2017:

Im what you would label a hippie WITH a job! And a friend of mine with long dreadlocks and piercings is a head chef. STOP assuming that 'hippies' sit at home all day. And just because a person has bohemian style and unconventional, loves nature and is a free thinker does not make them a 'hippie'. You people make me sooo mad

Finn on February 20, 2017:

Excellent way to spark brain waves, my brain feels sparked, at least... But let's not get carried away. You have given out a great way for the type of person who sees through bullshit to find a viable way of living. Thank you, thank you very much.

This is a treasure trove of info on making money options. Awesome lens!

Meagan Earls (author) from Michigan on April 20, 2014:

@starcodex lm: I hope that's not all you got from this! haha ;) It is one option. It's not for me, but I am not one to judge others on it. Many view it as an art form. (Many view it as an amazing money making opportunity too!) If it's not for you, check out the plethora of other options on here that are of a much different nature. There are some rather "wholesome" options available here too. Believe it or not. ;) Thanks for checking out the lens. Peace & Love to you. :)

Lee Hansen from Vermont on February 26, 2014:

This free spirit has always been self-sufficient. I am a child of the 60s and proud that I can make a living from my art and writing (have done so for decades). I've also learned that learning new skills is never out of style and always practical if you like to eat and have a place to call home.

blinkzu on February 25, 2014:

Kool!

David Stone from New York City on February 24, 2014:

The resources included quite a few I wasn't aware of and which seemed useful. Your thorough research can save many of us hours of time in a job search.

Kathryn Grace from San Francisco on February 08, 2014:

That last list certainly is interesting. As a former recruiter who has read thousands of resumes, conducted thousands of interviews and hired or placed a LOT of people, I am always interested in job-hunting tips and tools. This is a very good starter list for someone looking for ideas and who has no clue where to start.

Digory LM on February 02, 2014:

Very Nice lens. Thank you. I know a few people who will benefit a lot from this.
