How To Open A New Ebay Seller Account

If you are an eBay seller, you have probably already had issues with eBay. These issues may include unfair negative feedback from buyers, feedback extortion, selling limits, selling restrictions, suspensions and even having your account blocked. If you have yet to experience these problems, it is only a matter of time. In this day and age the only way to be successful selling on eBay as a new seller is to have the ability to open new accounts whenever necessary. In fact it is probably a good Idea to use several seller accounts at once instead of just 1. This will help you avoid disruptions to your business if your account becomes limited or suspended.

If your eBay seller account was limited or suspended, you should try to determine what went wrong in the first place, why your account was suspended. This will help you avoid making the same mistake again and becoming suspended or blocked again. There are many reasons your account may have had problems, the most common reasons will be a high sales volume or a sudden spike in sales, or an IP conflict. If you are using a fixed IP address from home, you will need to change this right away, this simply will not work for doing business with eBay/Paypal. You can get a cheap USB modem that you can use at home or on the road, before you buy one you should check and make sure you will not get a fixed IP from this unit. Another reason could be that you are selling what are considered to be "high risk" items, you will not be able to list certain items using a new account. You should start off selling low cost, low risk items until your account is mature.  Unfortunately while your goal is to make as much money as possible, you will have to limit your sales volume on a new eBay/Paypal account to less than 1000USD per month until your account is at least a few months old. If you want to have sales more than 1000USD, you should split up your business between several accounts.

Step 1: Create A New Identity

Before you get started, you will have to decide on an Alias or new identity. You can actually use your own name as long as you change the address, email, IP, credit card, phone number and any other details. You may want to use an Alias, if you decide to go this route, I suggest simply using a variation of your own name. For example, if your name is Bryan, change it to Brian, this will be fine for signing up a new account. You can use any new address, however it should be in or near your city, and you are better off if you have access to this address. If possible you can use a friends house or your parents house for a new address. You will need to set up a new email account with this name, and you should make sure you save this information on file so you do not forget it.

Step 2: Create A New User Account
Paypal and eBay track users with flash cookies on your browser, you can avoid these tracking cookies by setting up a new user account on your computer. You will need to use several of these if you want to use several accounts (I use about 20 of them).Never sign into your account using any other computer, or any free Wifi locations or any IP address other than your own (having a modem that generates a new IP address each time you log on and off is a must!)

Step 3: Get A Credit Card
If you have another credit card that you have never used for eBay, then you can use this card. If you do not have a credit card, don't worry, it is easy to get a virtual credit card online. There are several websites offering such services, I recommend

Step 4: Get A New Bank Account
This is the easy part, just make sure you don't try to use a bank account that you have used before. You can open a savings account online with the same bank in most cases. Most banks will allow you to have several savings accounts attached to your main account, and there are no shortage of banks if you need to open a new account.

Step 5: Get A New Phone Number
You will need a new phone number if you want to use eBay. The best way to get a new phone number is to sign up for an online call forwarding service and purchase a virtual phone number. Calls will be forwarded to your home phone or you mobile phone. I recommend for this because they accept Paypal to pay your balance.

Step 6: Sign Up For Paypal
Now you have everything you will need to sign up for your new Paypal account. Simply be careful not to sign into this account from any other computers, make sure you never use the same IP address for different accounts and keep your sales volume low in the beginning.

Step 7: Sign up for eBay
Sign up for eBay using these same techniques, remember to use a different user account on your computer for each eBay/Paypal account.

@Big Mike sign up for paypal via ebay, that way you don't need a ssn. I had that problem too lol

Hey ebay hater I can send you some ideas of how I did this at my setup. You don't need multiple modems but you have to have specific services from you internet provider. I have 10 ebay account's all separated by different IPs and computers and I don't have multiple modems and only one physical computer. It gets a bit technical but I can guide you through it. Shoot me an email we can discuss.

Great post. Thank you a million. How do I use different ip address for each account? would I have to buy multiple modems to plug in order to access one of the accounts?

You are able to achieve monthly sales of over $250 because your account's limits allow you to sale more than that. Even as a new seller you can sell more than $250 a month, no problem. I'm currently restricted to $1000 a month selling on a new account. On a business account I opened I am restricted to $5000 a month. The problem is that I can only list a limited amount of items in each category, but the $250 a month in sales is easy to hit. (author) from Vancouver / Bangkok on May 03, 2012:

How do you achieve montly sales of over 250$ if you are restriced by sales limits? am afraid your info is not totally accurate .. there is a lot more too it than that!

Rachel on April 26, 2012:

What about PayPal? They always asked for a SSN? Now with the 1099 they are issuing they defiantly be asking for them. Any ideas? (author) from Vancouver / Bangkok on January 29, 2012:

@ rob white,

You can't make it on eBay anymore with only 1 account, you absolutley need to create dozens of accounts using different aliases and details. This in the only way to make money on eBay these days.

rob white on January 25, 2012:

i used to have an account on ebay and i used to be able to sell 100s of itesm a month, then igot some bad feedback and ebay closed me account, i have now made another account and i am suffering the problem that i can only sell 10 items a month, as you stated in a previous papragraph, you need to reeach a certain feedback score before your selling limits are de-restriced, do you knopw what that score is, at the momenet my feedback score is 25
