Whatever you decide to do, make sure it makes you happy.

How do you know what's best for you?

How do you choose a career that's best for you with so many options out there? It may seem very exhausting to wrap your head around what you want to do but I'm sure if you follow these simple and organized tips, you should be able to make a good decision.

" The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep look. Don't settle."--- Steve Jobs.

Tip for making a career choice.

1. Assess Yourself.

This requires a lot of introspection. You must think deep and know about yourself before you can choose the right career. As yourself what interests you? Does it fit your personality type? What are your values.?

Take career and personality trait tests online to help you further evaluate yourself. You could also seek advice from a career counselor and other professionals in the field.

2. Discover your passion.

We all have something we love to do. It's just that most of us don't realise it yet or we tend to ignore it. There's a lot of emphasis on taking on a job you have a passion for, even career experts highly recommend it. When you do a job you love, you'll be able to overcome the challenges easily because it's really what you're interested in. Make sure your dream job or job description is something you love to do.

3. Write down your career options.

When at the point of choosing a career, there are many things you think you can do. Write them down and the first ones you should consider are the careers that appear also in the different online career assessment tools you've explored, which means they are probably a good fit for you. From the career list, choose the ones that appeal to you and you'd like to venture into.

4.Research the careers and narrow down your options.

After you've researched the careers on your list, then you can cancel out your least choices and your options would have narrowed down to let's say 5 to 10 options.

Narrow your options even more by finding out what the career entails, description, qualifications and licensing and it'd be easier to decide which one you're qualified for and eliminate the descriptions that don't appeal to you.

5. Gather information.

As much as you have researched, arrange to meet with people who work in the careers in your shortlist so they could give you first hand information about the career you want to venture into and you know if it works for you.

6. Seek Satisfaction.

You're going to spend so many years doing your job so it's good that you choose something you're satisfied with. Satisfaction is pretty much what makes you want to wake up in the morning and go to work. So, your level of satisfaction is important and should be considered when choosing a career path.

7. Make your decision.

After all the back and forth and tadaaa! You're ready to make your choice. Choose the career you'll be fulfilled doing and yes, you can change your mind at any point in your life. It's never too late to start something new anyway. It's not a bad idea to try different roles in different industries before making a final decision on your career. You may discover abilities you never knew you had.

" The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes.

8. Develop your skills.

You have to prepare for your chosen career. Develop your soft skills, study and acquire in depth knowledge about the field you wish to get into. Interact with people who are already working in the field.

9. Write your short and long term goals.

You'll need to set goals that you'd work with to enable you progress in your career. Your long term goal should be something you want to accomplish in 5-7years. While your short term should be something to achieve within a year or two. Write these goals down and the steps you need to take to reach them, obstacles you might face, and how you'd surmount them.

10. Be flexible.

In the job market, the importance of being able to adapt to change cannot be over emphasized. The world is fast changing and your field might also be less stable. Demands may increase or decrease as time goes on.

If you're developing a particular skill because of a job you wish to go into, there are chances that the skills you've learned might not be needed in the future. So be ready to embrace change.

These steps are very important and helpful in the long run.

Final Thought.

Making a career choice is one of the most important decisions in our lives. A right career choice can be satisfying, while a wrong one will leave you miserable for as long as you stay in the job. You might feel pressured by different factors to make a choice you don't really want but ultimately it's your choice to make and I hope with these few tips of mine, you'll be in the right direction and be able to make a suitable choice. Goodluck!
