The Purple Stripe

Because you think of yourself as no more than a single thread in the robe, whose duty is it to conform to the mass of people – just as a single white thread seemingly has no wish to clash with the remainder of the garment. But I aspire to be the purple stripe, that is, the garment’s brilliant hem. Don’t tell me to be like the rest.

Man in the Arena

Oswald Chambers writes in his great work 'My Utmost for His Highest' that we are super-victors with a joy that comes from experiencing the very things which look as if they are going to overwhelm us. Huge waves that would frighten an ordinary swimmer produce a tremendous thrill for the surfer. Let’s apply that to our circumstances. The things we try to avoid and fight against – tribulation, suffering, persecution – are the very things that produce abundant joy in us.
