Success is a state of mind. In order to succeed, you need a winning mindset, self-motivation, and determination. It is possible to adopt more productive thought patterns and enjoy more success in life, and the exercises in this article are meant to help, so be sure to do them, and watch your life transform!

Success begins with a winning mindset. This is a positive mindset and is not the same as seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. It is a way to think more productively and rise up to challenges with honesty and courage.

With a winning mindset you will see challenges as opportunities. You will be able to detect any areas of your character that need improvement, and take appropriate action, rather than accepting defeat or assigning blame elsewhere. You will take steps to overcome any obstacles that get in your way.

Print out the form in the photo above, with five columns, or make your own on a piece of paper, and think about your most recent week. Did you face some challenges or experience any failure? In the first column on the left, write down the top three, or top four challenges or failures you faced.

In each of the next four columns to the right, write out the folllowing:

  • second column - what you did or how you responded
  • third column - how the challenge could be seen as an opportunity
  • fourth column - one personal quality to improve
  • fifth column - one action (no matter how small) you can take towards overcoming the challenge

If you have a larger, overall challenge you are facing, take out another piece of paper and write out a solution, then write out step by step actions you can take over the course of a specific time period. Give each step of the plan, or each action a time frame. For instance, if I want to pay that student loan off in 5 years, I need to pay (X) each year, and (X) each month. (I may need to find a side hustle to get this thing paid off!)

You can use this method with any challenge. This is the first step in developing a winning mindset. Learn to identify problems clearly, and that every problem has a solution of some sort that can be discovered. Be just as bold in your discovery of solutions as you are in your discovery of the problem.

Success springs from a winning mindset, but it also requires work. The second strategy for success is to become more self motivated. It will take personal effort to identify, address and change things about yourself and your outcomes.

Most people have dreams and wishes, but no specific goals. For those that have goals, many do not have a solid plan for reaching their goals. And for those who do have a plan, many do not have the self-discipline to follow their plan. This is the main reason for a lack of success.

Take the first step towards success by defining your personal vision of success. Do it with this statement: I am working diligently so I can ____. (Think long term - "The Big Dream") Make sure you are crystal clear about what you want, and think about it as if there were no obstacles in the way. Be bold and fearless, and most importantly -write it down.

Next, develop mid-term, short term, and daily goals. Here are some ideas: a thriving online business selling socks, sending a child or grandchild to a specific college, running a 10 mile marathon next year, or finding a partner by within a year to enjoy life with. Whatever your big dream is, be sure to make your goal specific and quantifiable, or in other words, attach details and a number to it.

For instance, in the goal to have a happy partnership, you must first define what a happy partnership looks like. This could be 5 positive interactions with your spouse daily, 10 hugs daily, 2 fun dates per month, 5 conversations per month that don't revolve around managing the household, or any number of activities. I'm just throwing ideas out there, but you can change these to suit yourself. Bottom line you need to be able to monitor your progress, so you need to put a number to it.

In the example of running a 10 mile marathon, you could plan to work up to running 5 miles within 6 months, then 10 miles by the target month. You would need to figure out how far to run each day and each week, then keep a chart to make sure you are on track to succeed. Setting long term goals with monthly or daily progress points makes the larger goals seem much less intimidating.

Track your progress daily, using a checklist, calendar, graph, or app - anything that will help you keep track daily or weekly. Focus daily on your vision and continue to look for solutions to any problem that gets in the way. Sometimes you will fail or falter, but remember failure is an event, not an identity.

How to Stop Doubting and Start Succeeding!

Adopting a winning mindset and becoming more self-motivated are important but it is also critical that you do not sabotage your own success. The next strategy for success is to distance yourself from doubt - especially self doubt, and make the choice to win.

Doubt can come from others but much of it often comes from inside your own head. Learn to distance yourself from doubt by acknowledging it and deciding not to agree with it.

Two things need to happen for this strategy to work. You must recognize doubt when it occurs, and you must make a solid decision to overcome it and achieve your goal. It is one thing to have a goal, another thing to decide do what it takes to make it happen.

Here are two exercises that will help:

First make two columns on a piece of paper. On the left, write your weaknesses, then on the right, list strengths. If you're not sure what your strengths are, consider what others tell you you are good at. Everyone has strengths, even if that is being stubborn (won't give up) or "nit-picky" (detail-oriented). Keep this list somewhere as a reminder of what you're good at, and what you need work on. Address the weaknesses by doing some research online and finding ways to improve. Look at the list as a learning tool, and not as condemnation. Remember that all problems have solutions.

Now, print the form or use it as an example. On the left, make a list of the top 5 or 10 doubts you have encountered, or you might encounter. These doubts can come from others, the environment, or yourself, so be honest about these and again, not a condemnation, just honesty and a learning tool.

Now on the right column of the page, list at least one thing you can do to start overcoming each doubt. Give each one some careful thought, and distance yourself from all doubt including your own. Remember that you are an overcomer, not a victim.

Turn any doubts resulting from challenges over in your mind, every which way and even upside down, until you find a solution. You may not find a solution immediately but keep thinking about it. Ask a trusted friend or mentor to help you find solutions. (Don’t just discuss the problem, but seek solutions.) As you spend time focusing on finding solutions, ideas will come to you.

With a winning mindset, self-determination, and by distancing yourself from doubt, you can increase your success in life. Learn to identify solutions, set crystal-clear goals, track your progress, and turn doubts away. As you do these things, you will see your life transform!
