Job Searching now

Devika enjoys sharing her work with a friendly community. Writing opens the mind. I live in a foreign country learned a foreign language .

Job searching

I have started the job searching process and it is difficult to get what I enjoy doing and that is writing to earn an income. A passive income is what I would be pleased with at this time, however, everything I have tried just feels a negative start.

I tried a website recruiting workers, which were supposed to interview me two weeks ago, but they cancelled the interview twice. It is this irresponsibility that keeps me at bay.

Furthermore, I tried many other writing sites and got nothing. The many applicants I had made to several companies have no jobs available. I feel I have come to a dead end with my job search.

Since I do not have my summer job anymore due to poor tourism, from the COVID19, that hasn't put a positive sight it.

Everything in Dubrovnik and off-course, for the rest of the world as well has a loss of jobs, closed off businesses and nothing to help out for the unemployed and this depends on where you are living.

I spent five years self-employed and as I thought I am rising to the stars there I fall down and never going to get better in a long time. The many years living in Croatia, I have struggled and tried many different ideas to work with to make something great for myself and it didn't work out as I hoped it would.

Nothing works unless it is an easy and simple process. Whereas her it doesn't come through for you. No matter what I tried it failed or a disappointment. I sometimes feel as if I am standing in the middle of a pool and slowly drowning.

There were times when I felt I had it all and there were times when I felt hopeful and determined. Lately I feel it is time I just focus on myself and do what I want for myself.

For everything I paid I still tried to make life better through my small tourist business, but somehow the little issues interfered with it.

At the time living in Croatia I worked as a Chambermaid and quit to be self-employed. I worked five years to have something of my own, but the expenses have a negative side.

I had to pay my pension fund and medical expenses which, according to Croatian standards is mandatory. Five months of working for five seasons have paid off, but a battle to get what I need from it.

My income was poor and since the global recession and the COVID19 it made the situation worse than I had expected. I figured that my best option is to go on a job search to get better and progress if that would be possible.

As of this year I see the options are weaker and so difficult to get on with a job. Be it online or not jots are not available. Life is full of surprises and I think I am in for those surprises.

Experiences never cease up and I am up for a challenge. I remain positive even though everything else feels negative. I know that there is an opportunity out there and I would get that soon.

Always a new adventure and it makes me see how life can be in such times. I am free to explore what I don't know and want to know more about what I can do and of what I am not able to take on in this life.

I am hoping to get through the interview on the 30th of June and take it from there. I will not let any negativity get me down.

I have come too far to fail and stop my trials. Life is what it is and I just got to keep on at it to be determined and to not give up my challenges or in landing that job.

What gives me the strength to move on in my life?

I live each day in a positive way. I do not stop thinking that there will be something for me. Life is never perfect, so I keep that in mind and see that people aren’t perfect.

So, in all that I see and do I know that for a fact my life would change for the better and I would be talking about the days when not much worked out.

Don’t you often do that?

Talk about the days we had and about how we have achieved our goals in our latter years?

Challenges are there it depends if one would take on these challenges in their journey. I feel good and know what I want in my life. It is no problem to want to achieve what to me feels like a forever accomplishment.

As long as I am happy, forgiving, fun, loving and in good health, and able to do what I want there should be no obstacles in my way. I do not believe in right or wrong instead believe in the facts. It is not my place to argue right from wrong as it makes no difference to me.

How would you tackle the negativity around you?

Do you feel down and become depressed on that negative emotion?

Hi Denise me too, since i have been using Grammarly I have improved a lot in my writing. Thank you for the suggestion. I am still job searching, but I sell Indian cuisine to tourists. There has been a few people around had an income. It has been difficult for everyone, who have lost their jobs and have no income. Thank you

Denise McGill from Fresno CA on September 09, 2020:

I hope you are still working on looking for a job with a positive attitude. Have you gotten Grammarly for your computer? It is free and I find it helps with my writing. Sometimes I make small errors in grammar or spelling and Grammarly catches them for me and suggests a change. I don't have to go with their change but I find my writing has been 100 times better since I was using it.

Blessings,

Denise

Hi Peggy Thank you for kind comments. I am just being myself. I appreciate your time. Wriitng is my passion and I love what I do.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on August 11, 2020:

Your positive attitude shines. Your words: "As long as I am happy, forgiving, fun, loving, and in good health and able to do what I want, there should be no obstacles in my way."

Covid-19 has been a game-changer for a majority of the people around the world. We all must look at what is most important in life, and you have mentioned many of them in your post.

Good luck to you in your quest for a good paying job. In the meantime, enjoy that gorgeous scenery that you share with us. Wishng for you many blessings in the days and years to come.

Devika Primić (author) from Dubrovnik, Croatia on July 18, 2020:

Denise you have a great idea and glad you are selling the little dolls that you enjoyed creating. It is something that would work in most places. Well done! I do sell traditional Indian food to tourists and I am sure it would get better for me. Thank you for an encouraging comment.

Denise McGill from Fresno CA on July 17, 2020:

It is good you are trying to stay positive. I'm so sorry that this is becoming a burden for you. We never can predict what will come next in life and so we must be flexible. I have begun hand sewing little dolls in the evenings because I like to have something to do. To my surprise, people wanted to buy the little dolls and so I started a small business on the side that I didn't even expect. You never know what people will buy. You might be doing some little things like cooking specialty food or making flower arrangements only to find people would buy it if you made it for sale. I wish you the best.

Blessings,

Denise

Hi Rajan I know I am not the only one in this world with this issue of not having a job and of the cclosing of my business for this season. It is difficult in Croatia to actually have something of my own the laws ado not give people an opportunity to have a business without having to pay the many expenses. I am glad you stopped by thank you.

Nithya Venkat from Dubai on June 29, 2020:

These are tough times but I am sure brighter days are ahead for you. Best wishes for your interview. This too shall pass and the sun will shine bright, take care.

manatita44 from london on June 29, 2020:

For me a very touching piece! It is as if you have opened up your life to us and explained the struggle well.

Life really is not the same for many and there are a lot of stories of strife and struggle. It may be that Western Europe and America have a better financial support network. Some countries are still feeling their way.

Your local authorities may have some Apprentice courses that you can look into. I see a lot here, but I'm older than you and 52 years of work and travel have been a long time for me.

You seem to have the right Spirit. As long as your health holds, keep the energy going and something will eventually happen. Much Love.

Lorna Lamon on June 29, 2020:

The virus and lack of tourists has made it very difficult Devika. I hope that now lockdown is easing the tourist trade will return albeit slowly. I am glad you have such a positive outlook as many of my clients who are in a similar situation are struggling with their mental health.

I wish you the best of luck in your interview and keep that positive attitude. That beautiful view is a tonic in itself. Take care.

FlourishAnyway from USA on June 29, 2020:

I’m sorry you are experiencing this difficult time. Many others are as well. Try to take the time to learn new skills and keep your chin up.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on June 29, 2020:

Devika, I am sure with your positive attitude you will find something. Many people are going through depression with the economy at a low ebb now. Hopefully it will bounce back and be better than in the past. Good luck my friend,

Liz Westwood from UK on June 29, 2020:

I am sorry to hear of your experience. I hope you find something soon. Best wishes for the interview.

Ann Carr from SW England on June 29, 2020:

Good luck for the interview tomorrow, Devika!

You are positive and determined and that's what will get you through.

People like you with those qualities will be seen as such so you are on a winner before you start. Any employer worth their salt will recognise that. If they don't, then it's their loss not yours.

Keeping hold of the positive is important.

Keep smiling, Devika!

Ann

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on June 29, 2020:

Hi Devika!

These are tough times for everyone. I wish you all the best in your job search. I keep on reading the news, about financial losses to the companies, laying off, of the employees, and other not so pleasing happenings all around.

We have to keep our calm and faith, because that’s the way to deal with this. You have a positive approach towards the life, and I am sure, you will come out of this crisis.

Wishing you all the best. Thanks for sharing this article.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on June 29, 2020:

Best wishes on your job search. I'm certainly happy I don't have to look for a job right now. These are tough times for many, but I have faith you will find what you want and need.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on June 29, 2020:

I hope you can find the job you are looking for in the near future, Devika. I think it is still going to take time for companies to recover from this virus.

I do let negatively affect me too much. I am a Christian and I have faith that gives me peace.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on June 29, 2020:

I will be back to read some more. You have some great "quotes" here that can be thought of independently. Your attitude is awesome.
