Approaches Adopted By The Companies During Covid-19 Period
As we are navigating through this pandemic, many IT industries have enriched themselves to sail through this uncertainty and started focusing on employee well being with certain work from home strategies.
The first-ever global tech giant that announced its employees to continue WFH till July 2021 is Google and setting a precedent for other tech giants, it stated that employees should be provided the right to plan ahead. Besides, it also offered a $1000 allowance for home-based office work needs.
Twitter moved a step ahead and announced that employees can work from home forever and it is the first-ever tech giant to allow its employees to continue this new normal and to have it as a permanent option for the employees even post COVID era.
As of now, Shopify planned to continue with the new normal and they announced that their offices shall remain closed till 2021. Meanwhile, they restructure the organization and allow employees to maintain social distancing when they are back to work.
Twino on the other hand planned to shift their work to a showroom-based office, which is a walk-in space to meet up with their business partners and clients. Moreover, it opens up space for community meetings and other activities.
Why Are Workers Not Ready To Return To Old Normal?
It's been a while since the outbreak forced many companies to adopt work from home options and now many organizations are trying to restart with social distancing measures but workers are not ready to return to old normal and why could it be?
Need Maximum Safety Measures
People feel that no one can assure that going back to confined office space could be safe. From crowded commutes to the workplace with inevitable common areas like a cafeteria, restroom or even returning back to the fumigated area would still not be safe. People are worried about public transport where it is difficult to maintain social distancing. Some would fear that organizations would not have a good contingency plan or any in-charge for such plans. However, if the safety measures are in place could expect some workers to return back to the office for their work.
Increased Productivity & Better Time Management
Majority of employees who started working from home post the pandemic have claimed that their productivity has improved and had better work-life balance. The researchers also back this claim. As per the Boston Consulting Group Survey, 75% of employees told that they were able to improve their productivity and focus on individual tasks ever since they started Work from home. Employers have taken various measures to assess their employee's productivity using different tools and methodologies. Their report on productivity is also in line with these findings.
S&P Global Market Intelligence has conducted a survey on how the organizations are planning to continue to work post-Covid-19, so two-third of tech giants are setting up to maintain this work from home option for the long term.
Prefers Hybrid Work Option
While the majority of the workforce want to continue work from home, some of them want to go back to the office as they miss socializing opportunities and also direct interaction with the team.
So they prefer the hybrid work model i.e a combination of work from home and in-office work.
Some people would feel that it is a great relief not to see office work at home and others would feel it is good not to waste time commuting to the office daily. As a result, a combined way of working would yield more productivity. Finally, many would see this opportunity to reshape their work culture with a more flexible work environment to focus on work productivity rather than work location.
Survey and researchers predict that most of the employers would like to have a hybrid work model even post COVID-19 period. This shows why office workers are not interested to go ahead with the old normal. This crisis made us face many challenges. However, it paved the way for new opportunities for the employers as well as the employee to have a flexible work environment and build a talent roadmap with the right tools that focus on overall work productivity rather than work location.
