Joshua Hurtado has been driving for Uber Eats since August 2018 and has an Associates in Paralegal Studies.
Are There Benefits if I Drive Uber Eats?
Yes, there are many benefits to operating as a driver with Uber Eats. In this article, we will explore some of the ways that Uber has reached out to its drivers and made itself a more competitive option when it comes to looking for work.
Be Your Own Boss
Perhaps the most attractive benefit (with the possible exception of their education benefit) is that you would be your own boss. If you are have always wanted to be your own boss, this is a good way to see what it is like, and I can tell you from my own personal experience, it is amazing! Uber does not tell me when I have to work, and they do not even tell me where I have to work so long as I am working in their service area and near restaurants that are partnered with them, that is about all they are asking for in terms of my physical location. If I want to maximize my earnings, I stay near the restaurants that I believe will be receiving the best orders. If I want to take it a little easier and just pick up an order here and there while I am doing other stuff at home, I can do that too (I just recommend that you leave promptly once you accept an order to avoid any thumbs down ratings from customers or merchants).
Uber Eats Pro
Uber Eats has launched a program called Uber Eats Pro. This program was launched to provide drivers with an incentive to perform well and to consistently deliver on the platform by offering an increased number of benefits. Any driver can enroll in this program however, it is important to note that you must maintain a positive satisfaction rating of at least 95% to remain in the program. It is within this program where we will find the vast majority of the benefits Uber Eats offers its drivers.
Many people do not want to quit their jobs and start something different because they do not want to lose their health coverage, and who can blame them. Health Insurance is a major benefit to consider when looking for employment and the type of coverage can make a huge difference financially should the person ever fall ill or need to see a doctor for any reason.
Potential drivers no longer need to worry whether or not they will be able to obtain health insurance if they start driving for Uber. This is because there is now a bevy of medical, dental, and vision plans which Uber has made available for its drivers to choose from. There are literally hundreds of plans to choose from, and the pricing, as well as the coverage offered by each plan, is straight forward.
Drivers on the platform can also access a free health savings account. This is a good way for drivers to invest their money in a place where it can grow, but also still have it easily accessible in the event of a medical emergency.
This next discount has to due with everyone's favorite day, tax day. Uber has taken steps to make tax day a little less burdensome for its partners. One way they have done this is by offering its drivers TurboTax Self-Employed for free when filing state or federal. They even offer 50% off of the Live version which allows the user to actually talk with a real person regarding their tax questions.
That's right, Uber will pay for 100% of tuition if the driver wishes to take online classes at ASU. This is perhaps the largest benefit that Uber offers its partners, and there are some extra requirements that drivers must meet before qualifying for it. This benefit is not available for Green level partners, you must be Gold or higher. Not only that, but you must also reach a total of 1,000 deliveries.
It is important to note that this will only cover an undergraduate degree. Maybe you do not need an undergrad, but someone else in your family does. That is totally fine, Uber will allow you to use this benefit for someone in your family as well.
In addition to the benefits we have already discussed, there are many other benefits that Uber offers. These include roadside assistance, discounts on helmets, discounts on money transfers, a discount off of Quick Books Self-Employed, and more. Uber has taken steps to show its appreciation to its drivers and these benefits have definitely set the company on that path in my opinion.
