Being Renewed Day by Day

I was on my last Christmas vacation on 2012 and when classes started in January 2013, I was not there, since I retired from being a Public School teacher on December 31st, 2012. How many statements I heard, when friends knew about my decision; from encouraging messages, to passing forward experiences. These were filling my head as my heart struggled with options. Being a follower of Jesus Christ, and searching answers, lessons, counseling and leadership from the Bible leads to a peaceful consciousness at the moment of making a choice.

This verse found in The Bible is one of the answers to my prayers and I want to share it with all.

Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16).

Retirement means many different things because it depends on the why, who, when, and where. A person that is retiring obviously is a mature individual. The retirement does not necessarily mean that the person is not capable to keep an active life.

Bible verses filled with wisdom and hope

Ephesians 1:9

Ephesians 1:9

Romans 11:29

Romans 11:29

Colossians 3:10

Colossians 3:10

Romans 8:28

Romans 8:28

I decided to retire based on the fact that my “outer man is decaying”. Aging does put we, the people, at greater risk for health issues, but many older adults can be healthy and active well into their advancing years; and that is exactly where I am heading. I was born with nothing and I have worked enough to live by my pension benefit, enjoying the rest of my life.

I believe that humans are blessed with talents to be part of the outgoing on behalf of humanity. How do we make a better world if we do not know limits? How do we make a better world if we do not leave others the opportunity to contribute? Retirement is the time when stepping back is required to let human skills flow.

Many times, I wish that each day could last more than 24 hours; to do things that cannot be done. We, the people, are gifted with a variety of skills, and as time goes on we will use them according to our purpose in life. Retirement gives me the opportunity to work on those other things which I did not have the time to perform; “yet our inner man is being renewed day by day”. God made us in His image and it is in His time that things happen for our own good.

Meditate in the verses shared from the Holy Word of God, with butterflies; filled with wisdom and hope. They are quoted from the books of: Ephesians, Romans, and Colossians.

Nature's lessons

Nature is our best classroom: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” found in Matthew 6:26.

How delightful is to rest in God’s word, Isaiah 40:31 says: “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

For those that are retiring or look in the mirror and see another person than the one that used to appear (for diverse reasons), I counsel to embrace the words of wisdom found in the Bible. Isaiah 40:22 says” It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”

The honor in retirement

So much to do

Let me share all the activities I am willing to do… Instead of sitting down on a rocking chair.

Draw, paint, write, translate my husband’s books to Spanish, get advertisements for our books, meet people, be more committed in our church ministry, help people with whatever is their need, enjoy gardening, cook our favorite recipes, learn, live, laugh, run, play, swim, camp, hike, drive, travel, enjoy giving time to my family and last but not least go to Africa.

Have any ideas for me? Blessings to all!

Lastheart -- seems you have all your ducks in a row and are indeed ready for "retirement." However -- beware! I've found that retirement brings lots of folks who think retirement means you're available to do a bunch of things for them they don't want to do. Over the years I've picked and chosen very carefully as one can become involved in stuff that really holds no interest for them and prevents doing anything on one's own agenda. Without a doubt "retirement" has been a time of renewed energy for me to do things I never had the time to do during my working years. "Golden Years?" I don't know about that part of it but retirement is certainly rewarding. Congratulations! Best/Sis
