Looking for a Government Job: Appear in Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Examination

The author intends to provide a professional platform where one can discuss career-related matters and find answers.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC), an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training, was constituted by the Government of India as the "Subordinate Services Commission" in 1975 and renamed as Staff Selection Commission in 1977. Its scope was further broadened to recruit "Group B" staff in the pay scale of Rs 9300 to 34800 with a grade pay of Rs 4200 in addition to earlier mandated "Group C" recruitment,

Staff at SSC headquarters in New Delhi includes a Chairman, two Members, a Secretary, and a Deputy Secretary. In addition, the SSC includes nine Under Secretaries, one Director, two Joint Directors, four Deputy Directors, one Assistant Director, one Finance and Budget Officer, and 24 Section Officers, plus hundreds of supporting officers and staff.

SSC conducts examinations throughout the country through a large network of examination centers and sub-centers. It has seven Regional Offices (headed by Regional Directors) at Allahabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, and Bangalore, and two Sub-Regional Offices at Raipur and Chandigarh (each headed by a Deputy Director).

Age Limits

SSC conducts both open and departmental examinations for recruitment to various government agencies. No application or examination fee is taken from candidates who are women, scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, physically handicapped, or ex-servicemen. The age limit for examinations is generally 18-27 years as of a given date, except for a few examinations like Junior Hindi Translators (18-28 or 30 years).
