A Budding Non-Profit Promoting Technology

Monica Viera is an author based in East Los Angeles. She is best known for her poetry, but occasionally helps with grant writing.

What is the Metaverse and Why is It Important?

We currently live in the digital age- where we can experience live concerts, world travel, and AR- just with access to the metaverse. The metaverse provides opportunities for education, gaming, sharing information, and much more. However, some communities have less access, since it requires being able to access technology that may be too expensive. This is where eMagin Learning and Arts Center comes in.

What is eMagin Learning and Arts Center?

Here, I interview the founder of eMagin Learning and Arts Center (ELAC) to get more information on his budding non-profit.

Hi! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to start eMagin Learning & Arts Center?

As for my sensibility and passion for giving children more robust learning resources, I came up in the foster care system and my childhood can be described as largely self-parented. I did have teachers/coaches who reached out to me, but none of the support one would associate with a family. I believe that our children are by far our #1 resource and that real community centers can offer a universal life-line to underserved children/families.

What are the primary goals of eMagin Learning & Arts Center?

ELAC wants to dramatically expand and streamline social service/educational opportunities to citizens on the wrong side of the Digital Divide.

How do you plan to accomplish your goals?

We will use collaborative digital tools to come up with creative solutions that will deliver governmental/private assistance ranging from upskilling for adults to digital literacy training for children and young adults.
Career Path is a proposed digital career guide and onboarding tool that will educate job seekers. It will give in-depth guidance as to the skill sets and preparation necessary for getting interviews and important insights about the hiring process. Interview simulators will enable the applicant to get feedback from human experts.

Why do we as a society need eMagin Learning?

"Information is the new currency" is as true today as it was a couple decades ago. It would not be an exaggeration to say that access to digital data will determine winners/losers in almost every human endeavor. ELAC proposes to combine a digital literacy portal with social service access. Just as the medical system is connecting all relevant professionals and agencies to serve the individual; ELAC will do the same by providing our members with secure ELAC digital access IDs.

Where is it set? Is it virtual or in a physical setting?

ELAC will repurpose public/commercial spaces in any location that is suitable. The eMagin centers will rely heavily on metaverse technology to attract our youth and retain their interest via robust entertainment/educational tools.

What are the qualifications of being able to use your services?

Everyone is welcomed to become an ELAC member. Of course, all participants must be screened and carefully onboarded for the safety of ELAC members. IEP (individual educational profile) will be an important component of the onboarding process. This information will be gathered in steps via chatbots and human interviews.

Is there anything else we should know about eMagin Learning?

eMagin is clearly a powerful tool in our effort to address economic/social inequality. All the digital infrastructure is already in place. Bringing this awesome power to the people will require the sustained effort and creative thinking of educators, activists, technologists, politicians, spiritual leaders, artists, and thought-leaders.

That concludes my interview with the founder of eMagin Learning. I hope this post helped you understand the importance of the metaverse and steps taken to continue to perpetuate learning and exploration of it.
