There is no doubt of how technology transformed our lives forever. Who would have thought that we will be working alongside it in the future, which is now?

Gone are the days of bulky phones, tangled computer wires, and slow internet. Nowadays, we cannot live without these kinds of technological advances. High-speed internet and smartphones are only some of the most important staples not only for work but in daily life in general.

What is artificial intelligence?

The rise of artificial intelligence is one of the most important aspects of technological advancement. Who would have thought that this sort of “futuristic” thing would become a reality?

Investopedia defines artificial intelligence as “the simulation of human intelligence in machines… programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.” Most people would associate artificial intelligence with robots. Like the ones we see in the movies and read in books.

However, that is far from the truth. The amazing power of artificial intelligence lies in our hands. Look at the smartphone or laptop you are using. They contain apps and programs that you use at home and work every day.

We are living with AI all this time

Artificial intelligence also enabled an automated workflow. The use of AI has made our lives a lot easier, more efficient, and more productive. No wonder AI is being used in various workplaces around the world. You might not realize it at first, but you might already be dealing with artificial intelligence in your daily life.

You use Google Maps or Waze to guide you to your destination, determine your estimated arrival, and even tell you where traffic is. You log in to your Uber or Lyft app to hail a ride going to your intended destination. You order your food online through a food delivery app.

Ever wondered how your email becomes safer from spam (and potentially threatening) messages? Or how people can buy things without having cash on hand? You might even encounter “sponsored” content that would catch your attention while casually browsing through your Facebook account?

These are all examples of how AI has impacted our lives as we have never thought it would. Imagine how our lives would be without these technological advances that we might be taking for granted for now.

AI and the world of business

In 2016, businesses invested billions of dollars – triple the amount spend three years prior. More than 70 percent of business owners also believe that the use of AI is crucial to the success of their respective businesses.

Almost 40 percent of those who integrated AI in their business boosted their revenue, the same report says. And it seems that artificial intelligence is here to stay and expected to grow as much as 52 percent in the years to come.

However, this is without roadblocks along the way. For one, the integration of large data between the front lines and the back office can be tedious, time-consuming, and even expensive. It is also not easy to share or sensitive data as they are used to having it in hard copies.

Not all companies may be using artificial intelligence in their daily operations. It will take some adjustment time to get used to it. But the results at the end of the day will say it all.

How AI enables a productive workforce

As mentioned, we are already working and using AI in our daily lives all this time. If you are not yet convinced, here are 2 ways artificial intelligence can be utilized especially in the workplace.

1. It lessens paper consumption.

Gone are the days where you have to deal with literally tons of paperwork on your desk. Thanks to AI, email filtering became a lot easier. Searching for that one important email message became less of a chore (and a source of stress). And yes, less paper consumption. You can do all of your reports on your computer and send them away to your boss via email.

2. It makes you more organized.

Studies showed that corporate workers attend at least 60 meetings every month. The bad news is that a huge chunk of these meetings is either unproductive or a complete waste of time – unnecessary even. Fortunately, there are a lot of apps and tools that lessen the need for personal meetings. Instead, the automated workflow takes place which enables employees to focus on their respective tasks with less distraction.
